My parents were still new in the 'troof' in 1960.

I'm artistic by nature & wanted to be a (bloke) ballet dancer.......obviously this was crushed at the very first sign of any leanings in that direction & the Awake certainly put a downer on it when a newly converted JW 'world leading ballerina' described how much more fulfilling it was to serve the Watchtower, er um I mean Jehovah than have a career like she'd had.

I was put forward to attend an art school.......crushed, too much time would be spent travelling to & from school, would interfere with book study nights & MS/TM meetings

Then when older I thought I'd like to be a marine biologist.........crushed again 1975 was soooooo close no need to spend years studying when the New World would offer sooooo many oppotunities for young men like me, and it wasn't just around the corner it was RIGH IN FRONT OF US, THE NEW WORLD WAS STARING US IN THE FACE

This past weekend I lost my mom

the cancer finally got to her and now my sisters and i are left without our mother.

we take comfort only in knowing that she is no longer in pain.

how do people move on from such a massive loss?.

My parents are still alive but becoming frail & I know I may soon have to deal with a loss like yours Lola. Not sure how I will cope but I'd just like to let you know I thinking about you.

Wachtower says 97% of teens masturbate....is it realistic that 100% Witness teens don't?

"young people ask" book admits 97% of youths masturbate...to put it into perspective, it's like saying 97% of the worlds population own a phone or a t.v!!

so is it realistic to believe these witnesses going thru puberty and teenage years won't on penalty of death?.

i always thought, if nearly 100% of teens do it isn't it normal?.

I used to pray to Jehovah to kill me if I did 'IT' again.............you know.....'manipulate the sex organs to induce flow of semen' as the borg described it in an article written when I was a boy.....mid 60's-ish.

All this Awake did was pile on the guilt & told us we should tell the elders & damned fool that I was, I did just that.

I told the cong overseer I needed to see him about something & he arranged a time for me to call round to his house. I was crapping myself as I hid behind the hedge around his front garden trying to pluck up courage to go in. I knew I had to, otherwise I would never be able to please JEHOVAH because of my 'secret sin'..........(even though God knew all about it, so it wasn't that secret, was it?)

Eventually I numbed my mind & walked to his front door. He welcomed me in & his wife went into the kitchen, though I'm sure she heard what I told him as it was only in the next room. I imagine now I'm older, he had a pretty good idea what was coming as I opened up to him.

I expected a lot to happen than actually did happened after 'confessing my sin' to an older man appointed by god's holy spirit. It turned out to be a total waste of time as all that was offered were some kind words, offers to work with me in the FS & a promise that he would look out some more information from the borg for me to read.

He never did find anything else for me read even though I asked him many times.

The borg has really screwed young minds up over masturbation..........a perfectly NORMAL part of life.

A valuable lesson was learned though, NEVER RELY ON ELDERS..........AND NEVER RELY ON GOD!

growing up as a jw, you see the world differently than most everyone else.

you see the world as something that is going to end very soon.

all that we know will be gone by the time we're adults.. when we were young, we were living in the last days and were expecting armageddon before we grew old.

1959 was when I was told I would play with lions & tigers..........ride elephants in paradise.

1959..... I was 5, never heard anything like it before.........my childish imagination loved it!

I told my friends & my teacher about it at infant school.

Thus started the road to constant disillusionment regarding everything the Watchtower Society ever proclaimed or said.

I've not read this before Mad Sweeney, thanks for including it in this thread.

The adverse effects on individuals caused by believing the rubbish the Watchtower organisation has spurted out really comes into perspective in this piece of writing.

Of course it wont be on the CD library...............it's too embarrasing.

As I suggested on another thread stuff like this has been massaged out of existance.

I was taking my final exams before leaving school in May 1969 & this short article had a profound effect on my outlook for the future & the choices I made regarding career etc.

I tried to work part time in order to pioneer. The job was very manual and exhausting......plus I hated pioneering with a passion. The W/T org made you feel obligated to pioneer though saying things like 'how can you justify before Jehovah why you are not pioneering??'

Anyway it was only going to be for the next 6 or 8 years at the most.......wasn't it??

So that would be..........1975-ish then? (The Watchtower borg claim they never gave a date for the big A, we lowlife dubs somehow read too much into the articles they published according to them now)

Thank god I have been able in the most part mitigate the setback listening to the tripe that spilled out of Brooklyn caused me. It has been a long struggle but I now have a good though not highly paid job & a lovely home. All the things they told me not to strive after.

And you're right NRFG they DONT GIVE A DAM about the consequences caused to you through reading their so-called 'spirit directed' nonsense printed in their magazines & books!!! The dreadful men in charge at Brooklyn DO NOT GIVE A DAM.

Does anyone think Jehovah would make a good friend?

i remember reading the my book of bible stories when i was younger and it constantly referenced to abraham being jehovah's friend.

if jehovah made himself into a real being for a day, but he still had his almighty powers, what kinda friend do you think he would be?

i honestly think that he would suck as a friend, especially when he didnt get things his way..

A true friend doesn't need to be told how great he is ALL the time.

A true friend doesn't threaten to hurt & kill you if you do not tell him what a great guy he is ALL the time.

after leaving the religion, my lesbian couple friends were the most compassionate people, and i will always love them!.

i am heterosexual, but find gays to be absolutely fabulous!!.

Intro to my book "A Soul Shackled"

my earliest memories of the religion begin somewhere around the age of 4. i was at least three, because i recall leading the pack around the yard on an explore of some sort.

it was a hot summer day.

our small town was always quiet, and we saw few visitors at our home, for that matter even on our block, when i happened upon a large black four door sedan parked in the edge of our lawn as the streets in our town had no curbs and were narrow.

I enjoyed your intro very much Jeff..........I have very VERY similar recollections of me being in the front garden & a lady calling on my mother when I was about 5.

The rest is history...........50 years on I'm making my way out & so are my parents.

We will never allow the 'earthling men' who run the Watchtower org have such power over us again.

Looking forward to the rest of your story.
