can anyone tell me exactly how the jws advertised the '75 being the end of the world?

how were they soooo effective?

i mean, other cults are effective also, but damn!

In the UK we had petrol rationing because of the 1973 oil crisis & 3 day working because of the resulting power shortage. No street lighting, stores open but no power & factories having to close their doors.

We could almost 'taste' Armageddon in the air...........it all seemed to add up.

Blood transfusion was far more of an issue back then as well, no HLC's....... the JW's had to fight the fight on their own & as mentioned above some decided to put off surgery because the 'New World' would be here.

it was a long time coming for me.....when i read about the extened generations, after being raised on1914 being the be all end all, and millions would never die....that was the end.

i was part of the 1975 fiasco, the 6 month only truth book studies, suffered through a disifellowshipping and their version of a rewind.

i finally am free and hope others can eventually look in instead of inside looking out!

The Revelation book did it for me too.

It was scheduled to be 'studied' at the groups for a third time & I thought I just cannot take that crap anymore.

Just utter nonsense the way they connected the 1922 Ohio assemblies to the trumpet blasts of Revelation & the winged creatures with scorpion tails to the stinging message of the Wathctower magazines.

Now I know the GB are just deluded men fighting to maintain their comfortable lifestyle at the top of a printing business........that's all they are. They no longer have authority over me & my faith.

Question About the Governing Body

does anyone know if any of the current governing body members became a jw as an adult, or were all of them raised and bred a jw from childhood?.

i have a theory that the jws that are "born in" and stay in tend to be more extreme and less reasonable because that is all they have ever known, especially if they are sheltered and groomed to be a good little jw.. and i was just looking at what i could find about the newest and youngest member, mark sanderson.

he was born on february 4, 1965, and he was baptized on february 9, 1975 ... a few days shy of turning 10 years old!

I've just read the two paragraphs surrounding the quote Shirley highlighted, what presumption they show, their lack of humility is astounding.

Like modern day Pharisees their hubris knows no bounds.

Are You a Photic Sneezer?

i am, and my wife never believed me that a sudden bright light can make me sneeze.

apparently a third of humans are photic sneezers.

although the exact mechanism isn't fully understood it may be that a strong signal in the optic nerve can stimulte a nearby branch of the trigeminal nerve.. its time to come out the closet and be proud of your crossed wires.. ....

No TARPS Allowed (or large umbrellas).

i've been absent a bit more than usual.. at qualcomm stadium, home of the chargers and the "special arrangement" with san diego which means they use the venue for free, you are not allowed to bring a tarp in the 80 degree sunshine, nor a large umbrella.. mercifully however, you may bring a small one person umbrella you can hold or perhaps vice to the seat, but if someone asks you to take it down, you are to oblige.

san diego is freaking out over this i can assure you.

I wasn't happy at the big conventions................In fact I dreaded them.

They loomed up every year & you just HAD to go or be viewed negatively as rejecting Jehovah's bounteous provisions.

There was always going to be something big announced or a special resolution & woe betide anyone that didn't go to hear it.

Do I remember anything they droned on about at these gatherings?

50 years attending & you'd think I could remember just one of the BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS other than the significance of 1975 & what it would bring to the Earth.

What I do remember is some years freezing in the stands, some years being slowly pot roasted, always being bored to tears, trying with all my might to keep my eyes open & looking somewhat alert.

The droning speakers ensured the inevitable would eventually happen...........eyes close, head drops & ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
