by EndofMysteries ini have no idea what is going to happen but they had been shunning me and i called to tell her what i see in the scriptures about the faithful slave.
all of it up to the very end she said okay what's the point, the scripture at the very end is what triggered it.
but read it all in order.

Service meeting topic: Masturbation
by perfect1 inone of my strangest memories of going to the kh was when a young- maybe 18-20, pimply young man got up to talk about jhvhs view of masturbation during a service meeting.. of course, it was impossible to think about him not masturbating.
i was just hitting puberty and found the whole thing very uncomfortable- i think my dad was even critiquing him (what is that called when elder gives the feedback).
looking back now i can see that to publicly condemn masturbation, especially when a young man is delivering this admonition, is- well- hilarious.

keyser sore - That totally happened in the hall I went to as I was growing up. One of my buddies had the talk...we told him he had to do the 'jerk off' gesture in his talk...that clown said he would. But, he chickened out! LOL

Would you go running back?
by Nambo inif the tribulations started tomorrow, and all you knew of the bible was what the jws had told you, would you suddenly think, "they said this would happen, and it is, therefore they must be right", and go running back?.
or would you think, "just because eventually biblical prophiesies came to pass that "they" had read you from the bible, doesnt mean they are the chosen religion, because they get all these other doctrines wrong", and know these doctrines well enough to be able to convince yourselves.. .
replies such as "it wont happen cause its a fairy story" wont really help..

No...I'd go Quarterback! They get you a bit more points and are more durable for the most part. ;)
Oh...this isn't a fantasy football discussion??? Oops! Sorry...but my answer is still NO. ;)

Add your favorite JW prayer cliche'
by King Solomon inyou know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
ok, i'll kick this one off, and take the most obvious:.
"forgive us where we fall short....".

This thread should be entitled...'castor oil thread!' Caution watch for projectile vomit!
This one guy used to say the same thing over and over...in every prayer..
'Jehovah, our loving father in heaven...we come before you lofty throne with humble hearts...please be those cryyying and sighhhhing and looking for a better way of life...' all the will he was up there on stage wobbling like he was rocking himself to sleep in a jerky kind of way.
Yeah, my eyes were open!
There was another man, a C.O., who would scrunch up his face so hard I thought he was gonna explode. His eyes and nose and mouth looked like they were all where his nose should be. It was a funny sight for sure!

think i'm becoming an atheist
by rather be in hades ini was just thinking about how often i prayed when i was going downhill.. now i subscribed wholeheartedly to the 'don't pray for bullshit requests' concept, so at first i rarely prayed.. starting around middle school, 9/10 i prayed for friends.
didn't really pray to stop the teasing, my fists did some of that and besides...racism isn't/wasn't jehovah's fault anyway and i can't pray for that to end when he allowed the witnesses to suffer in ww2.. through high school, same issue and then when i started pioneering and hanging out with some of the other witnesses, those prayers prayers for friends intensified cuz they were asses.. but they were dominated by the prayers to love god starting around 15. i didn't want to read the magazines, despite how much i love reading.
didn't want to stdy the lessons, didn't want to plan my presentations, though i did enjoy giving the talks and crafting them.

Marking to read later...
interesting that many go from a believer as a JW to I don't know if there is only one way to worship God.
Then to, I have my own way to believe in God. - Does God really exist or Does he even care? -
Angry/Confused about God because you start to notice lots of inconsistencies. (ie...prayer & NC's post about Good things are because of him, bad things are time and unforeseen occurence. He gets all glory and no blame?)
Then finally...God simply doesn't exist?
Is that pretty much how it goes? I'm in the noticing lots of inconsistencies stage and things about an ALL LOVING, JUST and WISE God that just don't make sense to me. Like what NC said.

What scripture bothered your concious?
by stillhurts ini have been out 3 years.
i was baptized, never df'd.
ignored the 2 or 3 phone calls from the elders, and then they left me alone.

Oh, one more was when I gave the 'Memorial Talk' and it was the lack of a scripture that bothered my conscience. There was no basis I could find for 'observing' the Lord's Evening Meal and not 'partaking'. There was nothing in scriptures that said you would have 'everlasting life if you didn't partake'.

Hello Stillhurts. Here are some I had trouble with...
John 8:32 - "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." I never felt free...then they would say 'free from false religious teachings'. Yeah, that just didn't make sense. If that was freedom, what would it feel like to be enslaved?
Luke 23:43 - their definition of where the comma goes...they even say there was no punctuation back then. But, they sure do know where the comma went? Everyone else has the comma before 'today' and they have it afterward. "Truly I tell you today you will be with me in paradise."
Matt 28:18 - "all authority has been given me in heaven and on earth" - Jesus before he ascended...then he had to wait 1881 years or so (until 1914) to recieve the authority he said he already had.
These are just a few.

Introducing Mrs Cedars...
by cedars ini just thought you should know that mrs cedars has finally taken the plunge and joined the forum.
she was able to log on for the first time yesterday.. though we both "awakened" at different stages, mrs cedars was very supportive and non-judgmental when i first began exploring my beliefs from a critical standpoint.
she is currently in the process of reading crisis of conscience and aquainting herself with some of the facts of witness history that were hitherto unknown.
