i'm sorry, the article is still a little rough and still needs a lot of editing, but i wanted to get it up by today at the latest.
Great Work John,

as you may have heard if you attended recently, social networking is of the devil and many have been 'lead astray' by website supposedly set up for jw.
whatever, you heard it before about rock, hard rock, hip hop, rap, gangsta rap, tv, werewolves .... anyway you may have heard of the recent elder school where basically there were the proverbial tongue lashings about not having social networking sites.
here is the skinny on recent developments:.
Anon- I believe it. I remember the same point that Misery is mentioning from the KM school. Face book scares the crap out the organization because they can't control it. The experience about the party is legit. There were a bunch of kids/young adults who were able to use Face book to stay one step ahead of the elders, by syncing their stories, and giving each other a heads up when the investigation was going down.
They are shooting themselves in the foot because Social Networking is becoming one of the primary ways people communicate with each other. After demonizing it like they are through the assemblies and KM schools, they will never be able to effectively use it as a tool for their own purposes.
In a way it is a good thing because it shows that the org can't control half as much as they used to. When they remove elders servants or pioneers because of Social networking they eliminate a group of leaders that they will never be able to replace. This further alienates people from the organization because it is obviously a nonsensical policy.
I was reading freakonomics and was thinking about how Stetson Kennedy was able to discredit the KuKluxKlan by using the widest available media of his time- The Adventures of Superman radio show. The Klan was never able to recover fully from that action of Kennedy. Facebook is that opportunity in this "generation".
Watching this organization do things like this is, like watching a man amputate his own toes, his hand, a foot, and then the other foot. How long can this type of behavior go on before they fall?

i wrote this up on my blog, thought maybe i'd share it here.
some of these points have been discussed by others but they are all very valid.
i've got three of the biggest reasons why preaching is worthless:.
Great Points. Very similar to a post I did here two months ago. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/203957/1/Attention-Lurkers-Consider-the-effectiveness-of-your-lifesaving-work

if you are "born in" to the organization you have a lot at stake.
all of your friends are witnesses, most times all of your family are witnesses.
you might work for or with a witness.
If you are "Born in" to the organization you have a lot at stake. All of your friends are Witnesses, most times all of your family are Witnesses. You might work for or with a Witness. You are told that your value as a person is defined as coming from your activities for the organization. This is all you know. If you leave the organization you might lose your family, your friends, your reputation, business relationships, and other things. You will have personal freedom but will lose the things that make life worth living.
Someone on this board expressed it the best way I had heard in comparing it to being held at gunpoint. The hostage is absolutely free to walk away at anytime but his knowing that he will get shot in the head prevents him from doing so. So it goes with many of us who are trapped in the Organization.
The end result is there are many of us who are going through the motions, knowing that what we had once believed is false, yet having to pretend that it is true. We are required by the structure of our organization to act in a duplicitous manner. It is like the hostage acting as if he supports the motives and intentions of the man with gun, while at the same time hoping the gunman just pulls the trigger.
Each time I go into the Kingdom Hall for the meeting I look around at the publishers and wonder how many of them are like me, sitting there with the knowledge that the things we have been taught and continue to teach, are the fabrications of men. How many people are just like me afraid to speak out because of the inevitable consequences?
I would estimate that there must be at least 25% of the active witnesses that realize that something is wrong with the truth. There are the young ones who are comfortable with the internet and inevitably read something that creates a crack in their belief system. This is shown by the number that leave. There are the old timers who have faithfully served but are now approaching the end of their life in this same old system that was supposed to have been long gone. They must realize that something is wrong.
The social shift in Egypt and Tunisia shows what can start when one person stands up for what is right. People were looking for leadership and an example of how they can change an oppressive regime. The things that made this recent movement successful were the fact that people massed in numbers using facebook and text messages. They had a noble reason to overthrow the oppressive government. The media became aware of the protests and supported it with news coverage that made it tough for the government to harshly retaliate.
What will it take for those of us trapped in the organization to do the same thing? I feel that we are approaching a critical mass, with a large number of people who feel trapped, the ability to communicate widely and quickly using social networks, and the recent attention of the media to issues such as shunning, molestation, and blood.
I am not one of those people who wants to overthrow the organization. I think that they will always be around in some form or another. However I do feel that people should not be forced to pretend to believe a lie, to protect their families, their jobs, or their reputation.
Sorry for the rambling but just had to get it out.

so a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.
Wow ! Thanks Alfred.
CTS was bat shit crazy and this was the foundation of the entire organization! The Society makes it a point to emphasize that the origins of a religion or custom or holiday matter very much. The same principle should be applied to the origins of this religion.
I took your list and compared it with the pdf copy of the 1918 finished mystery and it all matches up. I don't see how anyone could look at this book now and think that God specifically chose this group as his special people. It is funny because the verse by verse lunacy is the same as in the Revelation climax book. Same craziness just 80 years later.

so this weekend my wife had a major grand mal seizure for the first time in her life.
she was rushed to the er.
a few hours later while i was at her side she had another major one.. it was the scariest moment in my life.
Dude I like you a lot and many of your posts are well thought out.
That said....... Get a grip on yourself. You are not responsible for your wife's health issues. You are responsible for yourself. Don't wallow in self pity or allow yourself to be consumed by anger. At the end of the day you have to be able to live with yourself and the choices you made. You can put yourself in the drivers seat if you want. Look at your upcoming JC as an opportunity. If the people in your life put the nutbag religion ahead of their relationship with you, do you really want them close to you anyways?
Go for a walk, think about what you want your life to look like in 5 years and then make it happen.

if you're still in for the sake of others, how's it going?
what specific plan are you working on to get your loved ones out so you can leave, too?
how is that plan progressing?
Resigned as an Elder, and have started phase 1 of my fading plan. Missed about 30% of the meetings this month and have skipped service the last 6 weeks. Have been brutally honest with my wife about where I stand with the org. Have set a deadline of July 1st for the completion of the fade. Hopefully will be out as a family by then. If not at least I will be out. Now that I have made my decision it is nice to know that I am driving this process and am in control. I figured that I have got to be able to live with myself and not be full of inner turmoil.
It is tough, because there are good people within the org, but they are misled. It makes you want to grab them and shake the stupid blank look off of their faces, and tell them the real truth.

so i have good reason there's a possibility that the convention may have so nu-lite on daniel prophecy.
coming from the geniuses that brought us the overlapping generation, one can only speculate what nuttiness they will come up with next..
Daniel being thrown into the Lions pit "evidently" has a parallel in our time. By framing trouble by decree and bringing persecuction against God's servants, the Governments and Church's of Russia and other parts of the former USSR have thrown our dear brothers to the Lions. However just as in Daniel's time Jehovah our God will shut the mouths of these lions and proctect his people. Is it not exciting to live in the time of bible prophecy as it is fulfilled? (Pause for Applause)
this is from the come be my follower publication.
pages 187-189. i highlighted what i found to be ironic.. 14. on the other hand, jesus must be very happy to look down from heaven and see that millions of people are fulfilling the disciple-making commission that he gave his followers before leaving the earth.
(matthew 28:19, 20) what a privilege it is to contribute to the joy of the messianic king!
I commented last night during this study that Jesus condemned the Pharisee's because of their narrow, restrictive, distorted view of the Law and how they were tremendous hypocrites. They thought they knew everything and forced the people to accept their misled views.
I know my wife can see the irony and understands what I am talking about. I wonder if anyone else in the audience can see the the irony? One of these days my comments will out me.
Really hard to sit through and read knowing that the Organization is so blind that they can easily point the finger at the misled corruted "false religions", but not realize three are pointing back at them.

i mentally left the org in march 2010. i stepped down as an elder after my lad got into trouble.
i researched the publications to make myself 'spiritually strong' but it backfired.. i was in mental and emotional turmoil, still on fs, the platform and meetings etc.
i had to force myself to conform to ever failing jw doctrine.. i announced to my family that i was not going back to meetings in august 2010 after the 'overlapping' joke of 'new light'.. i told the elders not to call.
Pontoon I am in the western part of the US. PST
