anyone had three elders (judicial committee) question you on sex before marriage?.

case in point, being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, i partied with peers that were witnesses by tradition, inherent faith.

at the age of eighteen (1992), i was conversing about the elders with a group of witnesses, and a girl who had been before a judicial committee chimed in and said, they ask questions that are none of their fucking business.

i have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.

in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.

even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

Thanks Minimus. Funny what thoughts you come up with at 3:00 in the morning. There have been a lot of good posts on this thread. I must admit that when I wrote this I was coming at it pretty one dimensionally. Thanks to those who chimed in with other angles. They are important to consider.

Even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the Society. Why do elders leave while their wife stays…?

I think that this is the case due to several things…

As Elders and Servants most of us worked our tails off, at meetings, conventions, quick builds, service etc. Despite this, no matter how hard we tried and worked we were told that we needed to do a better job. Gratitude was rarely expressed. Many of us became burned out and disillusioned with the organization. We saw the corruption, simony and hypocrisy, the changing doctrinal positions and decided that we could no longer teach something that was not true. So we did research like any student is taught to do, we analyzed history and doctrine and came to the conclusion that it was wrong. Then…

As an appointed man you were expected and taught to lead your family in doing what is right. You were trained that even though you might feel some discomfort at the end result that you still had to make the hard decisions judicial or otherwise. It was always emphasized to the serving men to teach with skill, using illustrations, persuasion and confidence. You learned to be skeptical about someone’s “story” in judicial proceedings and thus always viewed the brothers and sisters with a measure of skepticism.

Our training helped us to realize that it was all a lie and then try to lead our families out. We were burned out teachers that knew how to research, were skeptical, critical, and determined to do what was right. That is why we left the organization. Watchtower, you trained us well.

The first person we told about our findings was our spouse. She was incredulous that it all could be true. Perhaps we were depressed, or in the wrong frame of mind. We needed to wait on Jehovah. We persisted in showing her the things wrong with the Society to the point where we were told, “I don’t want to talk about it”.

So why do some wives stay in this false organization? It is because they have been trained also. They have been trained to never question, and to humbly submit to the headship arrangement. They accompanied us in service and study, always at our lead, rarely with anything to offer in the family studies. They always looked to a man to provide direction and answers for them. They had no mechanism within or even a voice to question what they were taught. Their single job as a witness wife was to support their man, who in turn had to support the organization, who in turn was supposed to be supporting the Christ.

Our wives were trained by the organization to persist and endure all things even if their husband was a bastard. Their silent example would change his behavior is what they were told. Silent endurance and total dependence was the key thing that our wives were trained to do. And so now that is what they do. They persist, in silent endurance, hoping that an answer to their questions will be provided, somehow by their total dependence on the false organization. When we left, they simply followed the path of least resistance and stayed doing what they were trained to do.

Sadly the situation is simply a product of our Watchtower training.

Timing of "thinner magazines" announcement

the announcement of the reduced number of pages in the watchtower & awake will be made after the watchtower study following the "special talk" on april 8.. theoretically, that's when there will be more visitors and "outsiders" than usual.

even the talk itself has 1/2 of its content directed at inactive jws.. obviously this reduction in pages has been in the works for several weeks if not months.

why pick that date to announce it?

They are desperately trying to put a positive spin on this. It always cracks me up how the Society wants it both ways. They will brag about the total circulation of the magazines as evidence of God's blessing. In the same article they will demonize the internet as being a tool of the devil.

Now they have to face realities. The publishing business is outmoded and they have been left behind. Now they will have to reconcile how they continue to demand that the "publishers" continue in the d2d in a world that is looking online for its information.

This is what the announcement will sound like to the conscious class....

Dear Slaves,

The past several years have brought about great change to the publishing industry. Even though we are a "bible and tract" society that has been supposedly appointed by God, paper and ink have become really expensive and we recognize that fewer people read the crap we publish. God isn't cutting us the same deal on printing supplies as in the past. It is undoubtably the paper unions being used by Satan to stymie the preaching work.

Therefore, in a blatant attempt to stop our financial hemmoraging, Jehovah has directed us to cut the magazines in half and to use the tool of the devil as the means of spreading our false message. Yes, God warned you recently about the internet but now he has changed his mind and directed that we merge all three websites together into a triad of information.

We pray that you supporters of our false religous scheme will continue to increase your hours in the pointless ministry with less product to sell. If anyone in the ministry wants to know the truth about Jehovah's Witnesses we invite them to use only jw.org to research our beliefs and practices.

Your devotion to us will continue to be shown by the amount of time that you spend delivering our URL to empty homes. You are reminded that June has 5 Saturdays and would be an excellent time to increase your activity.

Anybody here vegan?

i've been considering it for awhile strictly for just general overall health.

i don't take any meds, and would like to keep it that way for as long as i can.

i am a "all things in moderation " type of person but the more i read about excluding dairy and meat, the more i think about doing it.

If you ever have a chance, check out the documentary forks over knives. It pushed myself and my wife towards vegetarianism. We're still have a little way to go until we are there, but we are convinced it is the right way to eat.
