There are many I know who invite themselves during the assemblies/conventions out to dinner. My thought is if they are that rude to invite themselves I can politely tell them no we have our group and reservations all set.

Apparently my mother-in-law invites herself to placesÂ…
by garyneal inwell, the district convention of the jehovahs witnesses (gosh i cant believe i typed all that) came and went here in hampton, va and apparently our district is large enough to require two weekends at the coliseum to get everyone.
my wife went both weekends.
the first weekend, she went with some of her friends at her congregation on friday and boy was she super zealous that evening, all on fire and what-not, and talking about how good the talks were, etc.. she did not go the first saturday or sunday because her mom was coming to town the following weekend for the second convention.. her mom stays at our house and my wife goes all three days.

How much does it really cost to run an Assembly Hall? Real data.
by Paralipomenon inin canada, any corporation registered as a charity is public information.
i occassionaly browse them to see what's going on, but i wanted to give some updated data.. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/chrts-gvng/lstngs/menu-eng.html.
if you are curious, you can type in jehovah, or assembly or circuit to get tax information (including donations and expenses) for all of them.. for their assembly halls it shows much of what has been already told.

Wish we had that here in the states. At our assemblies (the building is owned by the circuits) they average $12,000-$14,000 per day in "operating" costs.

My encounter today.....
by Free!! inlet me start with: i havent been to a meeting in almost 2 years, i am "inactive" and the only contact i have w the jw is the an open minded jw friend who i talk to....since i left, i have done what i want, travel, get my nose pierced again (had it pierced before i baptized but they gave me hell for it, even thought the bible doesnt say anything bad about nose piercings) and hang out w "wordly" friends who smoke, drink and swear.... i don't smoke but lately i have been giving this friend a ride and he is a-pack a day type of guy... he left his pack in my car yesterday..... so, i am working evenings this week on a special project, and this morning i decided to run some errands.
i was hungry so i stopped at macdonalds to grab some coffee... i placed my order thru the drive thru and pull over to the pay window, as i look for the money the drive-thru attendant says "wow, hello free!
", i look up and omfg one of the brothers from my congo... i acted like normal (sorry but i dont get nervous of agitated when i see a jw, i just dont give a dang) and smiled and made short conversation, while he is tellng me how much he misses seeing me at the hall, i see his eyes going between my piercing, my jet black goth hair and the pack of cigarettes on my passenger seat.... .

I felt the same way for a split second, doubting myself. Then I thought I am not trying to be rebellious in my thoughts but trying to find the truth. I will always be hesitant that is the nature of the beast. Is it in the back of my mind, yes but I know that I have nothing but good intentions as I sit observe and read while I go to the meetings etc.

My idol worship of Rick Springfield...
by QuestioningEverything inwhen i was a teenager in the early-mid 80's, rick springfield was popular .
as a teen girl, i was in love with him and his music.
the girl who studied with me was quite verbal about not idol-worshipping him or any pop culture personality.

Drama DC 2011

BTW: out of 6,000 people at the one I attended, 13---yes, only THIRTEEN--people took the plunge in the pool Saturday morning. 4 were children. I had to hide my tears as I ate my water-logged ham sammich.
We had a little under 5,100 and 17 baptized, mostly looked like minors....and I was eating a ham sandwich too that was soggy. LOL

They are starting to send some out to "pasture". I have no proof but my gut feeling is they are getting rid of the ones who are older and not yet at retirement age (so they can find a job) and replacing them with the young. Young ones are still submittimg their applications and getting accepted. So if the WTS is consolidating why are they taking on the younger recruits?

JW nephew graduation party cancelled... your insight is requested
by Alfred ini have a jw nephew in another state who was at very the top of his high school senior class this year.
because of this, my sister (an elder's wife) had planned and sent out invitations to his "graduation party" which would be held at a community center with all the bells and whistles.
i actually bought plane tickets for my wife and i to attend this party immediately after receiving the invitation in the mail.

What harsh reaction. From what you wrote he was primarily a great kid so why pull the rug out from underneath him for liking a "wordly" girl? It is bad enough JWs do not celebrate holidays, cannot go to school dances/proms. This is one of the few parties we are allowed to have. Poor kid...
