Alienation of affection?
by Snoozy ini wonder if the jw's leaders can be sued when they disfellowship someone in a family and then the family shuns them?
after all the jw leaders are the sole cause of a loved one getting the shaft from their family members..right?...
isn't that what "alienation of affection means?

I am surprised there are not tons of lawsuits from family members (Non JWs) where someone committed suicide etc from shunning. It is sad and cruel expecting family to shun.

Interracial Marriage
by Quendi inhere is a question i want to pose because i do not know the correct answer.
i have seen many interracial married couples among jehovah's witnesses--moreso than i have seen in other religions.
however, i have been told that once upon a time, interracial marriage was frowned upon by the wts hierarchy.

I do not know if this the WTS rules....... I heard (from various sources) that the they will not appoint CO/DO who are in an interracial marriage. All my life I have never seen an interracial CO/DO. Is this just in the areas I lived or has a CO/DO served that was in an interracial marriage?

Research question re. Treatment of Disfellowshipped Relatives
by Quarterback ini do remember, but can't seem to find it, a watchtower comment that stated.
" relatives must decide on the emotiional needs of the df'd relatives to see what limited contact would be necessary".
does anyone remember this?.

That is a sticky situation. We have a few close family members who have been df'd for years. My husband is an elder and continues to see them 4-5 times a year. We just do not advertise and enjoy spending time with them.

What's Fun in Boston?
by SixofNine inany travel advice from boston natives or people who know the area well?
i will be flying into boston on my way to a cabin in maine at the end of august, and my schedule allows me the flexibility to either fly in and drive to maine immediately, or spend a day or two in the boston area.
what is a must see/must do in the boston area?

If you like Italian Food you have to go to the North End of Boston (aka Little Italy). To visit the city, 1-2 days at the most would suffice.
The duck boat takes you all over the city, I beleive you go to the Pru Center for the duck boats.
For history then the Freedom Trail is great for the history buffs.
JFK Library and it was a great tour. You would need to take the subway (red line) outbound to the JFK/UMASS Station.
Boston Public Garden - the duck boats may drive by it.
Baseball Fan - MUST see Fenway.
Have a blast! New England has SO much to offer. Maine is absolutely beautiful.
For places to stay CB is right Woburn is not that far if your have a car. Then I would take a train. The MBTA runs the subway (within the city) and commuter rail (services the suburbs). Cities/towns on the transit system for example are Newton, Brookline, Malden and Braintree. Google maps is an excellent tool to see what type of transit is available to commute into Boston.

I think back fondly on all of our good days working together at Stream, hanging out together and in theocratic activities.
I swear every JW who was in IT worked for Stream.

Im Going To Be Disfellowshipped!
by TimothyT inin 6 months, my life has completely changed!.
i have chosen to be gay, i no longer suffer with guilty suicidal feelings, i have the most amazing boyfriend, and my parents and friends accept me for who i am.. i was informed today that a judicial comitee will be formed to disfellowship me.
i dont feel any kind of bitterness or sadness despite the fact that this is all i have known for 20 years and im about to lose some very close friends.. on the contrary, i feel fabulous!!!

JW directives you thought were downright stupid
by fallen_princess ini remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.
i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.
of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

Thanks for the memories and chuckle with the WTS crazy "rules". :)
