Some apostates are sociopaths
by myusername inthat is a controversial title to this post.
i think most apostates are kind-hearted people who want to warn others about this organization and help others get out of it.
however, some jws are sociopaths.

That is a controversial title to this post. I think most apostates are kind-hearted people who want to warn others about this organization and help others get out of it. However, some JWs are sociopaths. They're still sociopaths when they become apostates. I know of one apostate who is a sociopath. The apostate activity is to be in the limelight. This person has an empathy disorder and is dangerous to people who may get close. Luckily, he has some obvious red flags if the people aren't damaged enough or have the intelligence to pick them up.

Exciting experience about Amish couple joining JWs - and the shunning begins!
by Bonnie_Clyde inmy daughter is also on her email list.
i believe my daughter has informed her that i dont go to meetings any more, and i think my friend is trying to encourage me.
however, my daughter has shunned me, my husband and her two brothers for almost five years even though none of us are dfd.

What I don't like about the Amish community is they're the largest operators of puppy mills. You can google puppy mills online and find out how horrifying it is. If you google amish and puppy mills you should be able to find the connection. It's a dark secret in the amish community.

Did field service ever scare any one.
by life is to short ini was always scared somewhat by who i might meet at the door.. where i live we just had a mom murdered with her two young sons.
it is really sad, from what i just read in the paper the husband and wife took in this young man he was 22 years old and needed a place to stay.
he had been with them for months and had celebrated christmas and thanksgiving with all the family, etc.

@life is to short: When a dog experiences being hit by a stranger after growling, I think the dog will be more likely to bite the next stranger who comes to the property.
Although people probably already know this, I just want to let people know in general that: certain breeds are often stereotyped for being agressive. The breed that is targeted changes over time. When I was young it was dobermans. Then, rottweilers. Now, it's pitbulls. All of these dogs have to be trained to want to attack. They're trained by violent humans who make them endure a lot of physical abuse and purposely teach them to attack.
Sorry I derailed the thread a little with these posts. I was just reminded of the sterotyping issue.

Someone in this thread said he hit a rottweiler in the face for growling.
I just want to discourage anyone from doing this. Most dogs will growl when a stranger comes onto their property. Growling is a warning. It's not an attack. As a young teen I often went door to door with another young teen and she was scared of dogs. We encountered dogs that would growl. They are simply telling you to leave their property. We always walked slowly off of their property and didn't go to the extreme reaction of physical violence against a dog.

p.s. I don't mean I feel lucky to have done service. I mean it could have been worse.

I experienced the same attitude by people in congregation as you did with the young girl in the bathroom. About 8 JWs were standing by our car eating fast food and there was a man with a naked child in a van next to us. They talked amongst themselves about how they were doing something sexual but they seemed to consider the child just as wrong as the man. Nobody ever said it was wrong to do that to a child and nobody intervened or called the police. I was about 8 and didn't know the police could be called for that but I was still confused why they were acting like the child was so grose.
Anyway, I wasn't scared going door-to-door because it was in an upper middle-class neighborhood where many people were college educated and had manners, etc.. I feel lucky I did service in that area because it was a nice environment. Sometimes people would get mad at my parents for using me for the purpose of preaching. They told them I shouldn't be doing that.

Was anyone basically 'imprisoned' as a teen by JW parents?
by myusername inso in my mid teens i finally refused to stop all jw activity naively thinking i may be able to live a more normal life.
(i was already taken out of school at 14.
) after this i wasn't allowed to go outside even a few feet in front of the door by myself.

p.s. my parents would have fought it anyway, so I'm not sure it could have really happened.

How did you move out at 15? I had a few offers to let me live with people I knew but I was already warped in my thinking. I guess I didn't think I deserved help and had very low self esteem.

P.S. The environment inside had no enrichment either. Books were discouraged in general and heavily censored and there was low availability of food.
