Rock n Roll group blacklisted by JW's...+ question
by TheApostleAK inhas been blacklisted......told by one of my jw friends on the other side of adelaide that that was said in his congregations public talk yesterday.. p.s.
anyone know what offspring song jw's were warned against listening to???
i vaguely remember it was on their 'smash' album (it's either the song that goes "..demons in my head.." or the one called genocide).

It also reminds me of when we used to have the bookstudy at my house. I had tons of CDs in a tower that was out during the study. One day the conductor put on his glasses after the meeting and decided to read some of the titles... asked me about a few "Alice in Chains" etc... I casually mentioned my conscience was well trained and I was comfortable with my choices.
It lead to a pretty good discussion about music in general as we ended up coming across some stuff he also had (Eric Clapton etc). He passed away a short time later and truly was a great man - humble, loving, intelligent - the anti-thesis of so many other "company men".

I remember at an assembly about 7 years ago they mentioned from the platform Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (I and upteem other brothers owned it) was cited for it's references to beastiality (it's more "like an animal" as opposed to doing one). They also mentioned TLC's crazysexycool album undoubtedly because it had the word "sex" in it and must therefore be lascivious.
I also remember having a good laugh over a list of artists that made the rounds amongst elders in my area over what material was "satanic" etc. Of course, it read like a "who's who" of my record collection. I remember an elder friend who's favourite album was "Abraxas" by Carlos Santana - which some objected to because of "Black Magic Woman".
My response whenever someone asked me about some lyric in a song they might've found objectionable, was "oh - you are taking that literally - it's symbolic just like the Bible".

Is Blood Thicker Dan Water
by non_trias_theos insome people in this place think that jws break up families.
they say that since jws df unrepentant baptized members and insist on jw family members restricting association with df members that jws try to break up families.
what do you think about this charge?.

>> Non does not sell literature. He gives it away in fs.
The Society "gets paid" whether it comes from the householder's pocket or yours.
You also mention the Faithful and Discreet Slave class is all of the anointed. By what mechanism are the anointed canvassed for their input on what gets written in the Watchtower publications (the dispensment of food at the proper time)? Surely all of the Writing Department must be of the anointed right? With all those anointed at Bethel, they must be queried for their input on articles that are written, correct?
Non - I encourage you to seek out the answers to the above questions and really determine just how much this "FDS" class actually has anything to do with what you are presenting to the public as being from them.
Have you done so?

Brown said: "When people study the Bible, and YOU HAVE TO STUDY IT YOURSELF..."
Outright lie - You are "supposed" to study Watchtower publications with and are NOT to study on your own. Anyone who has been through it knows this is the case...
This is ticking me off...

I am in the midst of listening to this and can't believe the Theocratic War Strategy being employed...
With regard to the question the caller asked about voting, Brown replied "of course we don't discourage civic participation" and inferred that people are trained from the Bible and matters such as voting are left to the conscience of the person.
What he fails to mention is that someone will be disfellowshipped if they do run for office etc - not exactly a matter of conscience when outside parties act as judges.
I think I would be shocked to here this stuff if I were still a JW - it's not true. Brown is a fairly good speaker though - probably a better representative and orator than any of the GB.

Does anyone else watch 24?
by Mulan inlast night was the season finale for 24. it has been a very fast paced season, for all the characters.
i was so upset that they killed terry, but wonder if anyone thinks she might not be dead.
it sure looked like she is, the way jack carried on with her in his arms, instead of going for help.

I felt some of the episodes in the weeks leading up to the finale were a little bit ridiculous. But I loved the fact that it wasn't a Hollywood ending, that Jack could only do so much and was unable to save his wife (I'm sure she's dead).
I like how characters on the show aren't painted black or white.
eg. Jack shows a vindictive side by his execution of the Drazens
Mason was a jerk, a ladder climber, but at the same time did some good.
Senator Palmer was very human in lashing out at his wife. I personally enjoyed that whole storyline as much as the main storyline. She struck me as some elder's wives I knew :)
Apparently next season they might break it into 3 separate stories.

"You can't sit there" (bad language)
by Simon inthe "please be seated" post rememded me of our experiences at the last district assemblies we attended.. it was in the nynex / manchester evening news arena and it was hot ... damn hot.
they were obviously being 'cheap' and not paying for the air conditioning to be turned on.. liam was a baby and was becoming unwell because of the heat.
he was overheating badly which is pretty dangerous at that age so we stripped him off and took him out up the steps to the concourse.

I remember several summer district assemblies in the dreadful Olympic stadium in Montreal. A few times when they had those "international talks", the sound system and echo was so bad that it was all mud... what a painful drone to listen to - you might pull a word or two out every few minutes.
I remember one year in the mid 80s when the stupid roof wouldn't open. The Big Owe always had roof problems, and it getting stuck closed was a terrible one on this occasion. There was a digital temperature display on which I clearly remember seeing it get up to 47 degrees Celcius which would be about 115 freaking degrees! It was absolutely ridiculous. I was a a preteen at the time and was fading in and out. I finally said forget this and left for the hotel... and I was lucky at the time wearing my "assembly clothes" (shorts and a nice shirt). I can only imagine what those poor guys in suits were feeling.
I too had the same fantasies as others at assemblies looking longingly at the baptismal pool, thinking to myself, "Would anyone mind if I just took a dip?"
The best part about assemblies though when you were young was the frozen puddings and of course, all the girls!
