1993 Circuit Assembly Demonstration that Involved "The Firm" (1993)
by FirstInLine ini remember in 1993 at one of the circuit conventions that they did a drama in which a young adult woman living with her parents was going to go see "the firm" (1993) with some other young adult jws.
when she told her parents of her plans they expressed their concerns and she pleaded that sometimes a really good movie is ok to go see if it is rated r. she heard from reliable sources that there wasnt anything really bad with it like gratuitous sex, drugs or demonic themes.
in the end her parents convinced her that jehovah would still not approve because it was rated r. she was reminded that even worldly people recognize it is a bad movie because they are the ones that gave it the r rating.

I can remember Basic Instinct being mentioned in a public talk. As well, at a District Assembly they mentioned Nine Inch Nails/The Downward Spiral (beastiality), TLC (because of the album crazysexycool!!) and Snoop Doggy Dogg. The speaker referred to the latter as "Snoopy Dogg Dogg" which made every young person in the joint bust a gut. It was always ridiculous as the 60 year old speakers had no clue what they were talking about.
Many bands were blacklisted by JWs simply because of misunderstood names, or taking lyrics literally. I remember Beck's "Loser" being quoted as well as being an endorsement of murder... obviously hyperbole, metaphor and simple poetry were lost on these fools. My first wife's dad was an elder and I remember gettign my hands on a blacklist of bands that some of the local elders passed around to keep track of what music was acceptable and what wasn't. It was absolutely hilarious.

I like the taste of Quizno's subs, but I can't eat there. I kid you not, but every time I've gone (15 trips) I get a wicked case of the runs within an hour of my visit. That's enought to turn me off.

What a pile of horsesh*t.
I like how they raise the objection of some that "if we have the truth, we have nothing to fear. The truth will stand the test" but in the next breath saying that has lead to serious questioning and doubt. Hello?!? Red flags should go up in front of Witnesses when they read this. They never once counter this reasoning and say that "of course while the truth will stand up to scrutiny" or anything along those lines. They in fact have subtly told the truth about what happens when you "test the truth" - you will raise serious questioning and doubts.
I want to show my mom this statement and point out what they are saying in plain english. Test the truth = serious doubt. There is no refutation of the actual contents of "apostate literature".
Amazing.

I have a few comments to make, and don't like to waste my breath often...
1 - The title of your thread says it all - I think you need to "get a life" in that you should probably take a step back. No one should take online boards that seriously.
2 - I've never said it before, but thank you Simon and the other mods for your time, effort and resoure$ in setting up this board. It is truly thankless work. I personally appreciate the forum.
3 - If anyone has skipped ahead of the terms of use for this board, I would suggest re-reading them.
4 - For those not so technically minded, you might be very surprised at the type of "forensic" work s/w developers such as myself and the mods of this forum are capable of as far as piecing together technical information to determine misuse. If you think you are likely to "get over" on the forum admins via duplicate accounts etc, think again. There's much more information attached to your posts than you think.

Adam was desparate
by peacefulpete ini found this: .
now, god had set adam to name every beast, bird and other living thing.
when they passed before him in pairs, male and female, adam-being already like a twenty-year-old man-felt jealous of their loves, and though , he tried coupling with each female in turn act but found no satisfaction in the act.

Do on-line dating services really work?
by logansrun ini signed up for a "yahoo personals" account a million years ago and get updates like berserk which i never read.
i never put my picture up and have never subscribed to their "expanded service" where you can actually contact the people that they match you up with.
do these things really work?

Nos, exactly my point as well - meet as soon as possible to "keep it real". Use the phone or internet to do some early "filtering" but get to know each other in person in a low stress environment.
