I believe this is the trend across the continent. I couldn't believe that they had moved to dinky little Cornwall. No DC in Ottawa OR Montreal?!? What an extra burden for people to shell out money for hotels etc. I guarantee you that if I had to travel for the DC to another city, I would NOT bring a cooler (where are you going to keep your food for three days if the hotel has no fridge?) - we'd definitely be eating out.

I don't know if this would be considered a "scandal" per se...
by CeriseRose infor the first time in as many years as i can remember they moved the district convention from the large pacific national exhibition centre (pne), and divided the convention into 2 parts and all the jws in the area are assigned to go 4 hours north of here, get accommodations etc.. they came out with this back when i was *just* leaving the org.
i asked my jw friend and the comment back from her was that they hadn't been able to book the pne and so everyone was doing this.
i think that's a load of crap...they've moved the assembly weekend before when they've had the weekend they wanted booked, and to another weekend.

Hey! Did you ever wonder how to use a piece of plastic to cover the mags?
by joenobody inhere's a truly weird flash animation demo of "how to use magazine covers".
this is waaaay too bizarre... if anyone is good with shockwave or flash they should do a parody (although the self-parodying nature of this is too much!)..

Annoying WT Pictures from Publications Post Here With Comments
by Celtic inwhy is it that in pictures of the 'new system of things' there always appears in the background a ruddy mountain with snow on it?
and what for petes sake is that lion doing with a ruddy plastic beachball on it's paws, if that gets through the great tribulation, may be my yellow plastic rubber duck for my bath will too!!
what pictures from wt publications really get your goat?.

Apparently in the new system, people of the nations will go back to the traditional garb that they used to wear 50 years ago. How the else will you be able to tell what old country they were from?

I find it pretty shocking to see the difference between many of the Bush supporting Americans on this thread versus the comments from those of us outside the country that have access to a different perspective with additional news services. Your country and government owes you a lot of answers - why aren't more people asking the questions?!?

The Watchtower guilt machine is indeed a powerful tool
by Nocturne ini haven't posted as much here as i've wanted these past few weeks, but i've spent most of my time lurking here, or in chat.
for the last few 2 months roughly, every meeting i attended became extremely painful to endure, such that i would come up with excuses to miss as many as possible.
but there are 2 events that really gave me a swift kick to wake me up and realize that things had to change.

SoJ - you can bite me. I expect that kind of callous remark from less remarkable idiots.
Nocturne - hang in there. You are going to run the gamut of emotions and are are probably going to need to talk to people who've been there before. As I mentioned to you in a PM you can talk to my bro and I as we both live in town and have been through similar stuff. I understand what it's like to feel you are mortally wounding your mom. It kills you inside. But the right thing to do is not the equivalent of the easy thing to do.
Friends that you'll never hear from again? Absolutely. Rebuilding from nothing? Yes, it's true. But more would leave I think if it were an easy transition. But it can be done - I'm living proof. I have a bunch of true friends who will (and have) stuck by me that I had to work to develop friendships with over the years. You will get there too... Come and meet me for a coffee when you are ready to either blow off some steam, or just go on a seemingly endless rant to a receptive ear.

Need Help (Refuting JW Doctrines)
by alaskagirl inokay, i'm writing a letter to my brother explaining why i no longer believe the wtbts is god's earthly channel (since he asked).
so i want to mention all the contradictory, scandalous, evil doctrines they teach or once taught.
however, i need to have documented proof of them from "non-apostate" sources.

Good example Nocturne - forces her brother to do a ton of research and slide down the slipper slope.
PM me to let me know how you are doing.

What little things used to excite you as a JW?
by doodle-v ini would get excited when i was younger and would study the watchtower and see that this weeks study only had 19 paragraphs.
(made the study seem shorter,lol).
when a meeting would get canceled because of snow (which was rare) and i would get to stay home and watch a cheers or the cosby show.

I used to like:
- public talk suddenly cancelled and only a WT study
- when we would have coffee after the bookstudy (once a month) and shoot pool
- the rare cancelled meeting due to snow!
- egg (mc)muffins at the assembly
- working in food service at the assembly (behind the scenes) meant getting to your seat an hour after the programme started, but then leaving for work an hour later to get ready for lunch!
- working in the cold reefer when it was boiling hot in the convention
- going out of town for assemblies to Montreal
- checking out all of the sisters during lunch hour as we cruised the convention corridors
- when our assembly hall actually had a sundae machine!!! (didn't last long)
- frozen assembly puddings
- sitting with your friends in the upper decks
- submarine sandwiches at the assembly with the Kraft Italian dressing
- when the convention was over!
- congregation baseball and hockey games
- working the mikes or the soundsystem made the meetings go quick
- working guard duty in the parking lot during the meeting
Do you sense a trend?
;)

Don't get any funny ideas "unbelieving husband"! While the itinerary suggests you might enjoy the hotel facilities, I don't think a bubble bath with wifey tonight is sanctioned activity by Bethel Tours.
