  I&P, are you kidding?!

  There are alot of former bethelites who've gotten "out". It's hard to eat and sleep at the 'headquarters' and not eventually see how this group of old farts who meet once a week RULE YOUR LIFE. Not to mention how much tradition there is.

  After a while, you see your just like a Stonemason or something. You just serve some kind of weird group with weird ways.

  P.S."holy ground" eh? Yea, there was something very cool about how I was put on pedestal while I was there. Especially by chicks! The "Elderettes" comment I saw on another thread is sooo true!! Marry a bethelite, and they were set for life. Yea, come to think of it, I loved it!!

  JW's and drinking

  is it just me, or is alchohol consumption at parties and vacations virtually an unwrittten rule of jw-culture?.

  when i was in, i did not drink, and i still don't.

  i often felt almost ostracized for this by my jw associates.

  since jw are not allowed to live together and cannot have sexual relations before they get married are many jw marriages unhappy?

  i hear that they think jw marriages are much happier than normal marriages...can anyone verify that?.

  You can argue one way or the other on the effects of sex before marriage. What can, and often does, make JW marriages unhappy is the JW's disfellowshipping policies. When a mate is DF'd it creates tremendous pressure on both. I'm sure many, many a married witness has ignored their questions and consciences -- their true feelings -- to preserve the marriage. Unfortunately, that creates plenty of problems in its own right.

  So Who's Coming To My Barbie This Year?

  ok all you lucky people, this is the big one!.

  every july, around about the time of my birthday, her ladyship and myself host the barbie to end all barbies.

  fun, frolics and fizz are the order of the day, this is the social event, places are more in demand than tickets to watch england play (that's artistic licence btw), even dub in the pub turned up last year.. originally started 10 years ago to get the local pubs regulars together, i usually invite about 40 from the pub, about 15 little & big hooper's, and i am now throwing open an invitation for about 15 - 20 posters from this site to join in the fun.. the event will, weather permitting, take place on sunday july 21. meet at the waverley pub, severn road, weston - super - mare between 12noon and 3pm.

  Moe,

  Thanks so much for posting these! It really got me thinking about how little I think (?!) about the past and the Mayans in particular. We (or maybe it's just me!) get so caught up in the history of Europe and the Middle East, we forget about the wonderful parallel civilizations on the other side of the world.

  @invisible - The book sounds great. I think I'll try and find it so I can learn a little more about the Mayans.
