  While not about "Jehovah"...I thought these wonderful quotes from Talladega Nights could give us some fine examples as to positive ways of thinking of our lord and savior LOLOL

  I like to think of Jesus as a mischievous badger.

  I like to picture Jesus as a figure skater. He wears like a white outfit, and He does interpretive ice dances of my life's journey.

  Rated R Movies?

  been wondering if the jw's are still told to not see them.

  seems like i haven't seen or heard anything like that in a few years.. .

  asilentone - I don't remember if there were any sex scenes or not...I think when they were picking out the movie to rent, they were trying to pick one that wouldn't have so much sex in it....we watched that Dominoe movie or whatever....with keira nightly as the bounty hunter....so I don't remember there being too many opportunities for a sex scene but that movie was SO FREAKIN VIOLENT. Very graphic. And the most her mom said was "boy this is violent"....and yet continued letting us watch the movie....even though her daughter (my friend that I was there to visit) was only like...16/17.

  None of it makes any sense because every movie has varying degrees of inappropriateness....some movies are simply rated R because of their political content or because they're presenting radical ideas.

  yeah, just in going along with what's already been said...it seems that they always emphasize from the platform the "danger" of rated R movies and how one should never go see them....

  Although it's quite funny to see the contradiction from one region to another. I live in ohio and went to stay with a family in california. While I was there we rented and watched rated R movies WITH the parents.....the mom was a reg pioneer and the dad was an elder. In ohio that would be some crazy serious problem, but apparently out there it wasn't considered such an issue. *shrug* It's stupid if you ask me.

  What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?

  i'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.

  and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.

  so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

  I was born in, baptized in 1995 at the age of 14, stopped going at the age of 28 in may of 2009 (though I got suckered into attending one day of the convention with my folks)....haven't been back since.

  personally, I believe that since JW's are raised with such an extremist view of everything (do this, DONT do that, this person/thing is ok, this person/thing is EVIL).....that when they are finally released from that extremist mind control, they can finally explore the freedom of free-will and free-thought. Sometimes that exploration itself can go to the extreme by thinking that everything under the sun is ok. More often than not, the individual will find their own balance in personal standards, but I still think that it would be highly liberal in comparison with the JW way of thinking....which is probably why it's so noticeable as being "liberal".

  Bottom line though....being "liberal" or "conservative" is relative at best because of the reality of the question "who sets the standard?" Yes, it's been the social norm that God/the bible tends to set the levels with which one can be considered conservative or liberal. But if you're an individual that does not believe in the divinity of the bible (or believe in God, etc), then it nullifies the standards.

  What is liberal to one is conservative to another and vice versa.

  But in THIS instance regarding JW's....I think they lean toward the liberal because of the way it was shoved down their throat to be uber conservative. It's like the classic illustration of the spring. If it's gently released, it won't go crazy. If it's released quickly (as can be the case when someone suddenly realizes the religion their whole life centered around was a manipulation and a lie), it can jump off into who knows where.

  A lot of us have been shocked with that quick mental release/realization and are still floundering to find our balance in personal beliefs and standards. And I'm sure that we will settle somewhere in the range of being liberal. At the very least, more liberal than when we were JW's.

  I hope this makes sense and isn't just rambling crazy talk lol It makes sense in my head at least :-P

  as a female, I am not of the hairy face disposition.....

  However, I have dabbled in the tattoo arena and I must say, you just can't get one!! I only have two for now - a "hidden" one that I got when I was still somewhat of a jdub...and the other I got about 7 months after I stopped going to meetings altogether. It's a bigger tribal piece on my upper arm, that I absolutely LOVE. I'm going to get more as soon as I can figure out what and where and get enough money to do it LOL

  OH! THE FUNNIEST PART??? The girl who did my tattoo is a chick I actually met because I knocked on her door in service 8 years ago!!!!! We had a couple decent bible conversations, whatev...but I just thought she seemed totally cool and I pretty much was a stalker and decided to visit her on my own time and struck up a sort of friendship with her LOLOL we lost contact for a lot of years, but have now reunited and she did my tat :-P
