  Why 144,000 ?

  if god can read our hearts, why does he need an additional 144,000 creatures in heaven along with the already existing myriads of angels, to assist jesus in separating the sheep from the goats?

  is there any scriptural answer for this that you know of?.

  Maybe Syl...and of course thats if it IS a literal number ...but it wouldnt seem compatible with God's love after he'd invited us from the nations to be a part of it....and anointed us...?

  Ephesians 2 v 6 & 7 tells us that the reason humans are taken up to be in the kingdom is so that God can show the 'incomparable riches of his grace (undeserved kindness ) in the ages to come...'

  Syl - I reread in the NEV and its clear that it was opened up to the Gentiles...but only ones who have faith from the Jewish nation would be blessed, as in individuals, so the kingdom wouldnt be made up of just literal Jews ....which ties in with the fact that as a nation they never did accept Christ...(John 1 v 11 & 12) Is there another point I'm missing here?

  We know they cant be literal Jews since Jesus told them 'your house is abandoned to you' and subsequently the good news was opened up to the Gentiles/Nations...from which to bring a kingdom of priests...
