  Former Elders? What did you not like about serving as an elder?

  a few of my pet peeves were:.

  the po/cobe knowing that he needed to have an elders meeting after the meeting but not telling any other elders.

  humm, but his wife knew.

  I absolutely HATED field service in any form. It was so incredibly stupid and impractical...dated.

  But the thing I hated most was the way people were treated. Like one of the other people above, I served on hundreds of committee meetings. To see the way people were spoken to or the innuendos stated by fellow elders....made me sick. I stopped more than one meeting and excused the 'publisher' so I could rip the elder a new @sshole.

  The lack of education among elders is staggering. The MAJORITY have never read the Bible or could even have an intelligent discussion about Jesus personality. I was the youngest elder in every congregation I was in....and I couldn't believe the ineptitude with the scriptures.... not to mention their man-made WT policies. Massively stupid and made no effort to improve. Why should they? They were 'appointed by holy spirit'.... and averaged 10 hours a month in field service. This made them 'godly'

  The negative, insulting talk about publishers behind closed doors. That sister is a 'whack job'..... those people are 'poor'..... 'maybe they shouldn't eat so much'.....

  And last but not least: GROSS HYPOCRISY. Almost every BOE I served on had massive....and I mean MASSIVE drinking problems. Flat out drunks......especially their wives. Notorious drunks. Most of these guys were overweight and bombed on weekends.....until Sunday when they would give a talk on gluttony. I would literally look up at them on stage and just shake my head.

  How Did You View The Elders?

  i know some who truly believed they were "gifts in men".

  they needed their approval and wanted to be well spoken of by them.. i know some who can't stand elders and regard them as pests, always looking for some dirt on somebody.. i know some who liked maybe one or two but regarded the majority as unqualified.. how did you view the elders??

  I was an elder for 11 years.

  If the 'publishers' heard how these A holes spoke about people....they would never consider respecting or speaking to them about anything.

  well, it's 368 pages and it's done!.

  Wanabee Elders & Ministerial Servants

  there were a lot of wannabee elders and ministerial servants in the congregations.

  if you were a male and baptized, it was expected that you "reach out".

  everyone wanted to have a position.. wives and mothers of men wanted representation too.

  To take it further, I attended several assemblies where the DO stated that a "sister shouldn't even consider marrying a brother unless he was a servant."

  What problem did being a JW leave with your personality?

  and i don't (necessarily) mean a religious or spiritual one.. for example, i think the traces of guilt and paranoia i often fight with come from being a born-in, but my biggest issue by far is not being able to live in the moment.. i have listened to the power of now audiobook (and eckhart tolle's voice put me to sleep) so i read it instead.

  i have read other self-help books, most of them buddhist in leaning, but i still find it hard to stop thinking only in the future (thanks to the great trib, armageddon), or in the past (jesus, flood, 1914 being responsible for that).

  and whilst i no longer believe the big a is looming, and barely give anything else a second thought, my behaviour has projected itself, and i still find it difficult just to 'be' in the moment, enjoying and savouring what i'm doing, and doing it to the best of my ability, i'm forever thinking what is coming up, and what i did badly last time.. my sister said the last time i visited her that she felt like she was waiting for something to happen "but not like armageddon, something else".

  i have served 20 years as an elder, 5 years as an ms. was on the district committee in 2010, held various positions on the district , circuit, and rbc level.

  probably been on more than 100 judicial committees and even an appeals committee.

  was the coordinator in our congregation and deleted because adult child was df ( i kicked him out at the time of his wrongdoing, but that wasn't enough for thr brothers).

  I didn't discover this forum until after I had walked away..... some highly intelligent, well read and entertaining people here....

  Why elders' wives are such gossipers...

  i have a theory as to why elders' wives gossip so much.

  i believe a big part of it has to do with the conversation running dry (between themselves and their elder husbands) after so many years of marriage.

  since they don't get to spend too much "quality time" together (because of the elder husband's hamster wheel schedule), when they do have some intimate time alone, the elder's wives will invaribly attempt to engage their husbands in any kind of interchange.

  As a former elder.....I can tell you that elders....and their wives......are by far, the worst gossips/slanderers in any congregation.

  If the publishers knew ..... they would never go to an elder again.

  Lot's of talk on the July Watchtower?

  so i've heard lots of talk from within about the 'new light' in this watchtower...i'm yet to look at it in any detail.

  i'm kind of surprised actually...i first heard about it here before it was even available but close to the time it did come out people started bringing it up - even our co.. some say things like "have you heard about this?

  " or "big changes," or "allot of things they said we believed, i didn't realize,"(lots of that) or "brain-overload" or " too much information, but i've never felt more pumped up" or "it's soo exciting to see jehovah's spirit lead his organization..." or "it requires time to sink in, but it's a good feeling!

  Who Are Your Past Circuit Overseers? It's a small world..

  who were your past circuit overseers?

  i'm sure a lot of us actually know mutual people, as the co's relocate all over the country.. here's a few from the southeast us: (let me know if you recognize any names and post yours too please...).

  ellwood johnson (new york/philadelphia area for several years also).

  Woodley - Nice old man; had to be counseled by our BOE for being too friendly with young girls....but was just a nice, lonely old guy

  Don Auvinon - Weird guy, super quiet; didn't get to know anyone

  Milovsky - Extremely talented speaker that truly cared about people.....I became very close to him; I bleed for that guy... what a wasted life....talented. The only guy to make phone calls to me after I left. Wasn't even serving in our state. He finally gave up.

  Michas - A former opera singer. Nice enough guy, but I was a kid...... what a wasted life.

  Guy Pearce - He made me give up sports as an MS...... otherwise, he didn't seem to like service....he always requested to go on a break; sometimes right after a meeting for service LOL.

  ...and now for my favorite:

  Roger Triplette - That is one troubled, messed up guy. Smug, arrogant, downright cruel to people. He is now living a few miles away. One of the key reasons for me leaving the cult. He opened a door for me and my family the other night at a restaurant......my mother looked at me in horror to see if I noticed him...........I hadn't........but then I did..........she was sure I was going to beat his ass right then and there. I just looked at him and said "you sorry old F**K" ............he just went in.

  Milovsky and Triplette were rivals.......they had epic disagreements at Pioneer School right in front of the group. Triplette needs his ass beat........just a total jerk to everyone he speaks to.
