Quotemines please

as we all know, reaching a believing jw is difficult, maybe impossible.. i've tried many years of reasoning before i realised that reason isn't something they really understand, and science is something they can brush off with a wave of their hand.

now i'm going to prepare very succinct examples of their blatant quotemining and somehow get one of them to read it, then ask them why purveyors of the truth need to use lies to support their claims.

maybe i'm too optimistic but i'm hopeful this might have some effect.

How does this work? Do they know it's false but.. What? I just can't fathom it. Do they simultaneously know it's a lie but think it's the truth, using double-think?

I'm not in and have never been. I'm just trying to help someout out. He's a colleague, not a close friend and I probably won't be working there much longer anyway.

So with all this talk I hear of fading, I guess a lot of people are in it under duress but keep up the lie in case someone finds out they don't believe, and that's what the shunning's all about. Right?

Amelia, from what I know of the JW mindset that one is easily dismissed.

My favourite from that page is: " The manifest fit between organisms and their environment is a major outcome of evolution...."

but a few more blatant ones would be good.

i notice the jw bible is copyrighted.

are any other "holy" books copyrighted?.

i guess that means publishing it online along with a critique would violate the copyright?.

What, all bibles, including the King James? But there's plenty of websites that show the whole text of many!

in 1976, my friend bruce price was in contact with jehovahs witnesses who had become disillusioned through the debacle with 1975. bruce was the leading voice among the sda ministry in working for jws.

at the time, i was a member of the sda church.

although i left them about 25 years ago, to this day bruce and i enjoy a strong and genuinely warm friendship.. so, in 1976 bruce invited me to a meeting with one of the jws who was leading the disquiet in his congregation in dandenong (victoria, australia).

i'm thinking of building a website to allow anyone to add tags and notes to multiple bibles.. for instance, a subscriber could tag all the verses that mention x so they are easy to hand when trying to argue through creationist lies about x (e.g slavery).. the tags, and other annotations could be public so others could use them.

eventually, each version would be highly annotated.

tags/notes could be shared between different versions of the bible.. i'd be very interested to hear your ideas of what else might be helpful.

I've seen that yes. Also http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com is a good one.

I haven't done much research yet but haven't seen a site that does what I described, though I'm sure there must be one.

Hopefully, someone on here will come up with some good ideas to make it great. Anyone?

What if there are sinners in paradise?

i've always wondered what the jw line on this would be.

i'm sure sure if it's an original thought but i don't remember reading anything about it.. it starts with the assumption that people in the future paradise earth are exactly as perfect as adam & eve before the fall.. so, what if one of these future people "sins"?

I've always wondered what the JW line on this would be. I'm sure sure if it's an original thought but I don't remember reading anything about it.

It starts with the assumption that people in the future paradise earth are exactly as perfect as Adam & Eve before the fall.

So, what if one of these future people "sins"? Will god make all their descendents imperfect, and therefore suffer?

If not, why did he do that with Adam? What's the difference?

If they won't be capable of sin, why not?
