My sister who is still in is going to Costa Rica as a missionary
by time2keepmoving ini left the organization in 2011 and never look back.
i left behind my sister and her two daughters by mid 2015 both her daughters (both are in their early twenties) were disfellowshipped and left the organization.
she has decided to go to costa rica as a missionary (i guess that's what they are still calling them, unless that has changed, been gone so long i don't know if they came up with a new term for it).

Sometimes I think the JWs do exactly what they want; but just find a 'theocratic' reason for doing it - could just be a mid-life crisis thing. My sister & her husband are in Ecuador - supposedly for holier than thou witnessing, but now my sister is making soap - bringing cleanliness to the unwashed masses of Sth Americans! Too funny. It's a cheap place to live, anyway... -

If God is all powerful why did it take six days
by James Mixon inif god is omnipotent (all powerful) why did he take six days (or six thousand years jw.org) to.
crete everything.
why not speak everything into existence all at once?

When Genesis was written the Jews were already observing the Sabbath, based on some Babylonian worship of the 7 visible planets giving every week 7 days or something like that , so god was written in as observing the Sabbath too. Very convenient. Some BS like that anyway IIRC, lol. -

by atomant inthey say you mellow out with age.maybe so but not in my case.l feel its an insult and degrading to us humans to have to live the way we do if there is a god.deep down l guess l do believe theres a god but lm having great difficulty trying to understand why things are the way they are.l dont need a bible bashing from anyone l just feel frustrated and helpless.l just battle on like everyone else but l get the feeling theres a whole lot more to our existence.

Nup. There is no god - never was, never will be. 'God' is just your conciseness, or maybe a group conciseness- but that's it. Why life seems so hard is that this religion stunts people's development - ordinary people have more willpower, competitiveness, and sense of meaning in their lives. Sounds selfish... blah blah blah but you need to find the strength from within yourself to make the best of a world that is far from perfect. -

What's the point?
by punkofnice ini mean, i don't want to be miserable or anything, but what's the bloody point of it all?.
since i left the watchtower cult, i have come to realise that god cannot possibly exist...and if a god exists...god is indifferent to humankind as the least.. in 100 years time i'll be gone.
kaput.

What is the point? The point is you - live your life, make your own successes & failures, find your own path regardless of other people's opinions, so you have no regrets- you own it all. Celebrate life, and keep marching on when you can't.
I always liked that song by Seal, 'Crazy', and as I get older I think being totally rational can be overrated,.
Maybe it is best to be a little crazy.

how do most of you now feel about the military?
by sowhatnow inwas not sure where to post this, but i was curious, how do some of you now feel about the military?
would any of you let your children enlist, or would you yourselves join any military field?
how do you feel about the idea of women in the military?

Interesting thread. I was raised by my JW mum & non-JW dad, who was anti-war for personal reasons; so I grew up believing that war & the military were wrong. But now I've read many books about war, and come to my own conclusion - which is that its a very complex issue, beyond the ability of any one person to explain. For me it is entirely theoretical - I have no connection to the military, and never will have. We are moving into an age of greater human rights for all, and where people will value their lives, and the lives of others more highly than in the past; so maybe the huge loss of life, and wars between countries will no longer happen, and the 'hawks' and others who support military action will be seen as dinosaurs. But this could be 100 - 200 years into the future, too.

Death of a loved one and faith
by ilikecheese inhey all.
i haven't posted in forever and a day, but i feel like this is a great place to ask this question because of so many people who are unsure of their beliefs.
my mom was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer about four years ago.

It's extremely tough when a parent dies - you have my sympathy. You are in the ironic situation of wanting to be a person of faith like your mum; but her passing has somehow lessened your faith. You just have to let yourself grieve, and accept your feelings - life is a journey - it does get tough, and a lot of ideas & beliefs to get thrown away on the trip. You will find out what you want to know in time. -

It's a good book - funny clever & incisive. Another good book is:

Sometimes it just takes the right person to say 'It's a complete crock...' and then you realise that it is a crock, and always will be, so then you chuck it all away and move on. Not just knowing the facts, but being emotionally able to come to a decision - that's where the anger of these 2 authors

The Gates Ajar and Charles Taze Russell
by slimboyfat ini was listening to beyond belief yesterday, a radio 4 programme that treats religious ideas as worthy of consideration and discussion.
yesterday they were talking about belief in the afterlife.
they mentioned something i'd never heard of before.

Yeah, but what about this guy?

He believed that people could live forever and the dead could be resurrected.
C. T. Russell jumped onto a very popular bandwagon; complete with ideas that seemed plausible in his

I thought Christmas was more a catholic origination???
by EndofMysteries infrom when a jw, it was at least always told to me how catholics took on christmas, and all the other pagan celebrations etc.
recently i met a russian who said they are catholic and in russia they don't really celebrate christmas.
it's more an american thing and that new years is the bigger deal and the closest thing to christmas to them is something on like jan 7th.

LOL, you do realise that everything you want to know is at Wikipedia?
The Russkies didn't celebrate Christmas when they were commies, so that might explain something there.
But who really cares what its origins are? Only a sicko dead-beat r would ban Christmas, lol.
