  i just looked up some population statistics.

  i saw there are over a billion children under the age of 10 on the earth today.

  (didn't research too hard - just googled it.

  At the end you say it's absurd to justify the killing of children but at the same time, in the paragraph above it, you typed out a defense of God's children killings using an example and everything.

  I was giving hypothetical examples as to WHY God would allow children to die. People wanted a reason, so I gave a possible reason. It may or may not be true. But I don't PERSONALLY justify HUMANS killing children.

  I defend God because the Bible commands it. It allows us to question God (many of the ancient patriarchs and prophets did), and I never said we cannot question Him. But what I HAVE said is that it is God's right to do what God will do. It is his RIGHT. I said that in our limited understanding how can we presume to know exactly why God did what He did? We don't have all the facts. We don't know what He foresaw in the future that would happen if he did not give the commands that He gave.

  What is your obession with God's defense anyway? God will be fine, Dan.

  I'm not doing it for God's benefit. He doesn't need me. If He DID need someone, it would be someone a whole lot more qualified that I am. But the Bible says at 1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect"

  Now I have not always had an easy time of the last sentence...but I'm trying.

  When it comes down to it, you are rejecting God based on what happened in an ancient culture thousands of years ago. We can't even comprehend what mind set people had in those cultures. It definitely wasn't the same mind set that we have in ours.

  If you take only the judgements of God and not the love and justice, then you will come to the conclusions that you've come to. But before you can "judge" God, you have to take what the ENTIRE Bible says about Him and then make your judgement. It sounds like you stumbled on some things you didn't like about Him and wrote it all off without considering the consequence.

  Great advice, nugget. I am really trying to take my time. I'm not pushing anything on my MIL or wife. I just want to keep an encouraging note to things even when they are losing the 1 stable thing that they've both had in their life.

  Also, I guess I should clarify. I can't really judge people as who is Christian and who is not. I should be more careful about that. I think that there is a possibility of people that are JWs that are Christians. They haven't gotten out yet, but they have faith in Jesus as their savior and not the Watchtower organization.

  is there any chance that she may just be opening her mind to reason now that she has a second opinion that the WT is BS? I'm just wondering.

  I see what your saying. I just have to assume that it's the answer to my prayers unless shown otherwise. My wife has a strong faith in God. I can only hope and pray that she sticks to Christ and does not give Him up.

  I know this sounds like gibberish to non-Christians. So that is not lost on me. But I can only hope that she is being drawn out by the same Spirit spoken of in Ephesians.

  And you are not raining on my parade. I've just been praying about this for so long that it is exciting to actually see it happening.

  What crime could be so great that entire populations of cities were designated for destruction? God told Moses that the nations that the Hebrew were replacing were wicked. How "wicked" were these people? The text tells us that they were burning their own sons and daughters in sacrifices to their gods. So we see that these people were not really innocent. For these reasons (and others), God ordered the destruction of the peoples whom the Israelites dispossessed.

  I wasn't avoiding the death of children. In fact I started a thread about it a few months ago.

  People tend to assume that ALL children are innocent, even if their parents are doing bad things. The assumption is unfounded. For example, Palestinian Muslim children are officially taught in grammar school to hate their Jewish neighbors.They are so well indoctrinated that some of them give up their lives in suicide bombings as children.Corruption literally does breed corruption, which is why God did not want the Hebrews tainted by the other corrupt cultures of the Middle East.

  Do I justify the killing of children? Of course not. But God in his Omniscience knew what the outcome would be if they did not devote all things to destruction in Canaan. And true enough, when they did not devote all things to destruction, they were corrupted.

  No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that if a righteous person was killed (including a child) then God would not make it permanent.

  Don't worry about offending me. I'm not leaving because of the opinions of people. I used to take things too personally. I'm changing that. I know that however much you think it could never happen, there is a chance that God has chosen you to be His, and that you may one day become a Christian. So why judge you? I think your wrong, but that doesn't take away from me respecting you and your thoughts.

  Those that show faith in Christ. That's it. Sometimes it's not apparent for a long time. If we WERE chosen before the creation of the world like Eph 1 says, then it is inevitable that we will eventually become a true Christian. We can use our discernment to see those that have chosen a life course that SHOWS that they are saved.

  But how am I to know that the most militant atheist will not one day come to Christ? Lee Strobel was a huge atheist. But he eventually was called to Christ. So I cannot stand in judgement of anyone.
