Thinkaboutit: A Trinity circle jerk? Nice. You've shown you class and inability to have intelligent debate. I agree with Tammy that there are scriptures seemingly "for" the Trinity and scriptures seemingly against the Trinity. After a lifetime of forcing my views on others, I don't want to do this anymore. But dude, whether you are right or wrong in your views, you are showing yourself to be someone that acts like a 12 year old. They don't have the intelligence to argue any facts, so they resort to insults. Nice job.

Thinkaboutit: Defend yourself using scriptures. That would be far more useful in this convo.

Also, look up "polytheism". The Trinity is NOT polytheistic. JWs are polytheistic. Mormons are polytheistic. But by definition, the Trinity is not. There is 1 God. Only 1. All 3 persons of the godhead have the right to claim the title "God". But yet there are not 3 Gods, but one.

Stephen, I get where wannbefree is coming from. Although I HAVE seen that the ante Nicean fathers DID believe in the trinity, I have yet to find CONCLUSIVE proof that the 1st century Christians as a whole did. I'm not denying that they did. It's just hard to find the proof.

However, I do see a MULTITUDE of proof that the Bible does discuss Jesus relationship with the Father in a FAR greater way than the WT claims. Also, the Holy Spirit actually SPEAKS in the Bible. It tells people where to go. It is not like electricity, as JWs like to claim.

Thinkaboutit: It seems that you are viewing the trinity as the Watchtower does. Whether you believe in the trinity or not, the trinity doctrine is NOT what the WT says it is.

The Trinity is the claim that:

1. There are 3 people that make up "God"

2. They all exist in God's form

3. They are united in essence and equality

What is interesting is that even the false religious pharisees knew what Jesus claimed. He claimed to be equal to God. Read John 5:18.

The discussion of the Trinity should be discussed in a different post. And I concur that there is not a specific scripture that blatently says "The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God." However, there are several scriptures that show that each WERE spoken of as being God.

So while I will not be dogmatic on it, to deny that these scriptures exist is to deny the authority of scripture and to show an inability to interpret scripture correctly according to the rules of hermeneutics.

I would hope that if anyone showed me the true origins of this organization (as opposed to the new DVD and proclaimers book) that I'd be able to see the truth. 16 year olds are usually open to different points of view. I would show him some specific things on freeminds.org (without taking him to the site) and show him the experience of others.

He has only had the fluffed up false experiences from the district conventions to go off of to see that the org is WONDERFUL! But I'd gently show him the opposite experiences that people have had (child molestation, rape, df'ing, etc...)

My Story - Abbreviated but still way too long

as i have enjoyed reading everyone elses biogs here i thought it was about time that i put my own down.

i have thought about why i want to do this and whilst i can pretend it is for the better good and it will act as a warning for others thinking of joining the witnesses, actually i think it is because i think it is just because it makes an interesting story and as will become apparent a good part of my life i had to live a lie and i now find it really liberating just to be really open with everyone.. i also thought about how to write it.

was tempted to write it to the tune of the fresh prince but thought that might get a bit tough after about verse 38. then wondered whether i should do it in the style of one of those biography pieces in the awake but that would involve reading an awake to mimic the style and just couldnt be bothered.

The only assumptions that I hope people accuse me of making are that I believe the Bible to be the word of God.

I HAVE explored evolution, contrary to what many accuse me of. But I can't get past this fact:

Information systems cannot come from non information. I can agree with mutation and adapting over time. But there is no evidence of information coming from non-info. A cabbage can only become a cabbage because it's dna (or its equivalent) tells it to develope as a cabbage and not a human.

Until an evolutionist can show me info coming from non-info, I cannot believe that there is not a divine creator behind the universe. Anyone that does believe in the lack of a creator MUST admit to some sort of blind faith too.

Our world views may be different. But we each have to make certain leaps of faith to believe or NOT believe in certain things. Not everything can be proven by science. And not everything can be proven by creationism.

I still have not seen a post about a defense about John 2:19. There was a lame attempt from thinkaboutit to offer a statement from quote "some Christian denomonation" about Jesus not meaning what he said.

I have to agree with Chalam that there are 3 things that are SPECIFICALLY said in the sriptures. Jesus raised his body (John 2:19) The Father raised Jesus body (Acts 17:31) and the Holy Spirit raising Jesus body (Romans 8:11)

And yet, I am called an "idiot" by thinkaboutit? Am I an idiot for taking the Bible for what it says? Or am I an idiot for not accepting someones gymanastic reasoning that Jesus did not mean that he raised his own body, and that the Father really DID raise Jesus body, but the Holy Spirit only raised his body in the sense that the Father raised it? How am I to be considered an idiot?

Thinkaboutit: If I am an idiot due to a specific scripture, then show me that scripture and I will admit that I am an idiot. I have been an idiot for 30 years. I believed what the WT said. I'm tired of being an "idiot". So please show me where the scriptures tell me I'm wrong. Don't just show me what some strange "Christian denomination" has said in it's magazine in interpreting John 2:19.
