A word of caution

please forgive me if you consider this to be presumptuous, i know i am an ultra-newbie here.

but, i see a lot of threads on jwn that read something like, "what is your dog's name" or "where's your favorite vacation spot", "what's your special name for your spouse", etc.

i give the opening posters of these threads the benefit of the doubt that they are creating them simply for entertainment purposes.

what is the earliest age you heard someone get Baptised?

i was curious what is the youngest age any jw has been baptised.

i thought it was hypocritical for jws to say wait for marriage because its such a big deal but "why wait to get baptised".

i think my step sister was 11 years old.

I never knew or saw anyone personally get dunked that young. I took the plunge at 12, first JC by 14, knew it was all made up by 16. I remember hearing the stories about six and eight as a kid, no doubt I was inspired by them.

What I just realized is how hypocritical it is for them to codemn infant baptism.

Woods, I knew you was in TX but did not know you were that close. I was in Korea/Vietnam town in Carrollton the other day. I remember when that corner was a Mervyn's and Mexican restaurant.

I dont beleive in the christian veiw of God , are their alternatives ? Other than Judaism , Islam ,or other popular Gods in the world today ?

while i discard the notion of god as described in the bible ,and which would also include the islamic and judean religions as they have similar roots ,i do concede their are things i do not know , that occur,which i cant explain , whether they be attributed to the paranormal ,ufo`s ,ghosts ,phsysic phenomena ,poltergeists ,or whatever .it is well attested their are occurences which defy explanation .. we know as human beings we are born and we die in the flesh .. what if their was some truth in the scripture" you will be all changed in a twinkling of an eye" going from a fleshly creature to a spiritual creature ?

i find their are part truths, half truths ,truths of ommission , old truths ,new truths , and truths that are yet to be revealed .with the wtb&ts.

so is their a possibility of our continuing on in a spiritual existence ?

I think Space Aliens were on a long journey and seeded this planet so they would have food on the trip back home. Maybe for fun or as part of an experiment they spliced just a little of their DNA with a Chimpanzee, making us just smart enough to be dangerous.

Sailors did this all this time. If they found a new island in the S. Pacific they would let a few pigs or goats loose and chart the island. If they ran low on food they could hit the island on the way back and have a BBQ!

I am just not sure if we are the food or if we are just raising the food, maybe we are both.

You could worship yourself and your every little whim like most people seem to do these days. Ofcourse you will probably die alone and cold with a syringe in your arm and big mac stuffed in your mouth.

We know religion is made up shit, but how do we live with out blowing our brains out.... That's the million dollar question.

i was doing some reading on jonestown recently, which led me to some reading on the branch davidians and the heaven's gate folks.. it seems to me (and this is the part i want to discuss) doomsday or apocolyptic cults all share some common characteristics:.

- secret knowledge of am impending disaster.

- their survival if they follow the messages from a higher source that their leader receives.
