  quarterback tim tebow is scheduled to address the 11,000 member first baptist dallas congregation april 28th.

  first baptist dallas and its outspoken pastor robert jeffries in recent times have called islam and mormonism coming from the 'pits of hell' and you can't be 'saved being a jew', although he clarified that being a jew is not the same type of hereticalness as being a mormon.....huh?.

  pastor jeffries called the election of obama 'the rise of the anti-christ'.

  @Stillthinking- Yes I believe the WTBS and it's members have the right to shun who ever they want. Do you really think we can tell people who to be friends with as well?

  Also, you can't tell me what I can and can not complain about, it's called Freedom of Speech. It's the same crap that you are doing when you speak out against the WTBS. The same stuff the Tebow does.

  I got a little secret for you EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION AND EVERYONE THINKS THEY ARE RIGHT.... You can't control people's thoughts and beliefs. You really can't even control their actions as a free society. We can only punish the actions the cross the line after the fact.

  Trying to shut down those that oppose your point of view instead of rebutting them makes your side lose ground, not gain it.

  Yes, I have the same tolerance for the WTBS beliefs. I will say their wrong, but unless they start stoning apostates they have a right to meet, believe, and preach what ever they want.

  Everyone has the right to believe what they want to... no man has a right to tell someone else what to believe or say. Obviously we draw a line at actions to protect the rights of others.

  In the U.S. we have a constitution protecting people's right to freedom, speech, and religion. There is no amendment protecting my feelings which is what is the real case going on here.

  Would the world be a better place if people didn't believe this kind of crud, sure. But, that wouldn't be a free society now would it? Which one do you want? Freedom or Freedom from hurt feelings?

  So back to OP the fact that Tim Tebow is speaking at First Baptist is not news. That is like saying Michael Moore is speaking at UAW rally. Now if Michael Moore was speaking at FBC tommorrow and Tebow was speaking at UAW rally, that might provoke thought and worthwhile conversation.

  Come on guys let's not feel the need to label everything liberal/conservative. First Baptist is a Baptist church and they believe what they believe according to their doctrine. They don't beat up gays or muslims. They don't fire bomb abortion clinics. They have every right to believe what they believe and preach what they want to preach.

  We have every opportunity to ignore, rebut, or agree. I hate it when people put so much energy into other people's beliefs. There are enough people actually doing screwed up stuff. Save your energy for them.

  being the inquiring sort, i've read deeper in to the past of some of my heroes, and found....flaws.

  it shakes me up.

  i wonder; is my hero worth emulating?

  I know what you are feeling, however for me this JW hangover. As a JW I was taught that weakness or failure = immorality or wrong doing. This is not true. Weaknesses are the other side of the coin to our strengths.

  For example: Cagefighter might be a good leader, motivator, and such, however he can also be controlling, and dictartorial. It's the same trait. We are all imperfect and we should never let someone's weakness or failures wipe up the good they have done. We are personalizing their actions which is not fair. This is what the JW's do again. The Catholic Church for example could take a stand against communism in a country and save a million orphans, however the WT would dismiss it all because one bishop fondled a boy. Both matters are seperate and too be assessed differently.

  This sounds a lot like my story when I pulled out in my late teens and left home. Just think of them as a drunk getting their bottle taken away. They are going to blame you, insult you, and despise you. They are losing control of you and it does not feel good to them.

  Give it time, return your momma's phone calls when she does call (She will). Keep the convo light don't tell her you met the most awesome guy as long as she doesn't bash you with WT doctrine. Don't push too hard or call them too much, let everyone get comfortable with the new boundaries you are creating. Let them calm down and come to you a little. They will realize it's not the end of the world and your brave stand might actually cause them to doubt their own beliefs, but that is waaaaaaaaaay down the road.

  By all means stay away from drugs and too much alcohol. You have a big hole in your heart and life. You are very vulenerable right now, but it's not all bad. You will attract some of the coolest and neatest friends of your life in this stage. Just don't fuck around with dope. That's where I went wrong. There is not enough drugs in the world to fill the hole and you will go down. Sorry for the lecture, but you're young, and ex-JW, and gay trust me, it will come up.

  You set a boundary and let them decide how to react instead of trying to control the situaiton. There are people on this board that wouldn't have the courage to do that in a 100 years. Congrats, your a real man now. Hang in there and have fun. It's your life now!

  Comets and Large Asteroids are actually much easier to spot, track, and ultimately do something about. Ideally you would land a small unmanned vehicle on a large asteroid and nuke it. There is a mission later this year I believe that Nasa will approach and take a sample from one.

  Meteors like the one that blew up today are too small to track and it would be like hitting a gnat with a BB gun.

  ShrielyW- That is funny, I was just looking at the Queen Mary website the other day. I am not sure if you can get to New Zealand from the U.S. with out taking passage on a couple of trawlers or Japanese Whaling ships... haha.
