Is it even an option? Burn that bridge when you get there. It sounds like you are feeling anxious which leads to depression.

I went to church on Sunday, and the world did not come to an end.
by LisaRose inback story, i left the jws 13 years ago, just walked away, moved to another state, and married a guy i had gone to high school with 28 years previously.
at first i was just happy to be away from the dubs and the thought of any organized religion just made me sick, and as most of you know, the dubs do a good job of tearing down other religions, so my thinking was still influenced by the wtbts in some areas.
i considered myself agnostic for a long time.. i occasionally visited my husband's parents church when we were visiting.

Thanks for sharing LisaRose, what is sickening is the way the JW's poision us born-ins especially against any kind of organized religion (except their own of course). They would have us believe that everyone else that goes to church is wicked for the sake of being wicked.
I firmly believe that the church's function is simply to help us continue to grow as Christians. I think at one point and time even the JW's was able to reach a certain segment of the population that was spiritually lost and help them along their way as Satanus would put it. However, the JW's have become heavy with laws and rules like the Pharisees and now they only attract the mentally disturbed or the ignorant. I digress....
The UCC church is a little too liberal for me and The Baptist church takes the bible a little too literally... I found myself in a good UMC (methodist) church. The focus on discipline and works has been extremely helpful. We can study and dissect the bible all day winning arguments with our friends and neighbors, but for me....I have grown by learning to act out my faith instead of banging on peoples doors and pestering them with a sales pitch.
It's too easy to sit on the sidelines an look down your nose at everyone else. I appluad you for taking a step out of your comfort zone. Here is a great post from Lillian Daniel a UCC minister in IL about the "Spiriutal, but not religious cop out" Click Here

Caleb is back! in The Case of the Almost Stolen Lollipop
by sd-7 ini just happened to wander past my stepdaughter as she was watching some jw videos this morning before school, and i noticed a 'lesson 4' video, about not stealing.
hopefully it's youtube'd already and someone will post a link, i can't do it at the moment.. the plot is simple.
caleb's in the grocery store, and his mom just tells him [off-camera] 'no candy today.

The point of the video is not to teach the virtue of honesty, rather the virtue of obeying the org. It's obvious.

James 2:26 - "faith without works is dead"
by leaving_quietly ini was contemplating this verse this morning... what did james mean by "works"?
and it hit me like a bolt of lightning.. now, wts would have us believe these "works" are preaching and meetings.
however, could that be what james was referring to?

Maybe it's like the movie The Village. Maybe the Elder's are secretly doing the attacks to keep the flock in line!

Okay, put here is the thing.... A christian should not be doing works because they are noble or considered helpful to others, then you slip into simple humanitarianism. I don't think James or Paul were ever trying to be so specific about the works just saying they should be there. We can't define works so narrowly.
One married couple might show their love with lots of gifts and cards, another could care less about that but, they show their love through time spent together and compliments. The works are there becaused the love is their in the first place and not the other way around. That is the point. It's the Why and not the What.

What James was saying is really simple. If we are being true to ourselves and our faith is real then our behavior should reflect that otherwise we need to figure out why is there a disconnect. It's like being married and saying you love your spouse which you might, but you can't stop cheating. That should be a red flag.
It kind of goes in touch with my latest post on my blog....if anyone is interested... (shameless plug)...the url is aristotlegskywalker.blogspot.com

Are you in SA? Tell him to be careful next time when he takes a shit. You know how bullets tend to fly through bathroom doors, you might mistake his old man flatulence for a prowler or a burglar. .... I am being sarcastic ofcourse, don't really shoot your grandpa. You did the right thing.

Has he checked you for Diverticulitis? Usually it requires a CT scan.... I had it a while back. Very painful, but antibiotics and some diet changes can help.
