Jesus himself defines what "scripture" is. Just read Luke 24:27 and 44. Can't get any more plain and simple that our Lords defining of Scripture, yes?

What Was the Most Unbelievable Thing You've Heard?

The most unbelievable thing I heard was one evening at bookstudy when the conducting elder told our little assembled group how the governing body gets holy spirit. He told us (in all sincerity) that the governing body assembles in an upper room at Bethel. After prayer was said a thick cloud descended upon them all and God spoke with them telling them what to print in the Watchtower. I started laughing right there an then and he gave me this "look" so I stopped laughing. I said, No, Brother, I find that very difficult to believe. He said, No, it's true, it's true. The rest of the group was silent. I went home with wife and kids and told them the brother was crazy, lovable, but crazy. And that was the end of that.

Homosexual Adultery is NOT Grounds for Divorce!
by UnDisfellowshipped inquote from the watchtower january 1st 1972 issue, pages 31-32: .
questions from readers .
do homosexual acts on the part of a married person constitute a scriptural ground for divorce, freeing the innocent mate to remarry?

Why would a spouse NEED a divorce when the Mosaic Law stipulated the death penalty for all of these offenses? No, they didn't do their research well enough!

Greetings Undisfellowshiped and All: The substance of that article was retracted in one of the December issues of that same year (1972). If you have the 1972 Watchtower volume you can check out the January issue in contrast to the December issue. (Not sure whether the December issue was the 1st or the 15th.) The Society received so many many letters because of the January doctrine that by the time December came around they changed the doctrine to where divorce is okay. Most interesting.

The last time I called them it was at: 1-718-625-3600. I guess it might just be unlisted now from what I've read here. But, then again, maybe it's disconnected. Who knows?

What is a christian
by A Paduan inin light of a recent thread by ozzie showing the wt reaffirming salvation by works, i wanted to put forward a post questioning what a christian is.
my own belief is that christianity is about kindness that marginalises the fears surrounding any self-cost (any, even spiritual - i believe that's a secret truth).
the belief in salvation by works is the belief in a trade - a buying and selling.

Romans 8:14 For whoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God....you have received the spirit of adoptions as sons, BY VIRTUE which we cry, "Abba! Father!" THE SPIRIT HIMSELF GIVES TESTIMONY TO OUR SPIRIT that WE ARE sons of God.
Thus, others do not know WHAT WE KNOW about ourselves and what we have received from the Father. And thus, again, Christians (think biblical definition) make disciples of people of all the nations.... and then, when it is God's and Christ's will, they experience "the spirit himself giv[ing] testimony to [their] spirit...."

What you describe is quite nice; however, in and of itself, those good 'kind' and loving' qualities, as good as they are, and they are good, do not make a Christian a Christian. A Christian is a "Christ." A Christian is a "Messiah." A Christian is "a chosen one," an "anointed one." Chosen and anointed by whom? Chosen and anointed by God and/or Christ. These are the biblical definitions of those words. How does one know if he/she has been chosen? He or she knows by having received the promised holy spirit. First and foremost before all other definitions, it is my opinion that one must be the definition of the words before any additional definitions can be set in place. (In an argument, the premise has to be true before the following logic can stand.) According to the Hebrew scriptures, the prophets and kings of Israel were anointed with oil (and holy spirit) and thus were themselves Christs, Messiahs, Chosen Ones, and Anointed Ones. Remember the prophet Balaam (who had a talking ass), well...he was a Christian in the true and biblical sense of the word, yet he cursed Israel. Not very "christian" according to our supposed current understanding of the word, yes? Anyway, that's all I have to say on that.
Enjoy your day.
