The Jewish word "heaven" was used by them as a substitute for the word "God." So Abraham Issac and Jacob in the Kingdom of heaven means Kingdom of God to them and does not relocate them to some unknown place. Mt 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. There you see, it is [of heaven] and not in heaven. Or when this was written for company that was not strictly Jewish as in Luke it reads: Lu 13:28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. The location is now where? Here the very place Jews expected it to be notice how even after the resurrection and further instruction on this kingdom for 40 more days we still get: Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? kingdom to Israel, kingdom of heaven, kingdom of God, all the same and the place is here.

Raymond. I better correct that thanks. And I had Betty's new name and address but no telling if it is still around filed somewhere or lost. Last time we talked she still remembers what was said. I sort of purged it myself.

P.S. I went through some folders and found her letter mailed May 7, 2008. I know I called and talked to her. The name now is Betty H. Pelczeder of Fallston MD. She is with the BOUND, Ltd Support Group at 1-410-577-0335. Hope that is still an active number for anyone in the MD area.

During the BCRI (sp) conference in Gadsden Al, around 1981 the first one where Raymond Franz, Jim Penton and others were featured, my wife and I had lunch with one of the Bonham Tx elders also there for the conference and he discussed the spiritualistic practices and other things they practiced in Bonham before breaking away from the Watchtower. They thought we were insiders or something I guess since the book was just released. We tried to simply act inquisitive to get as much information as possible. Betty Vauls or Baltimore Md. (since remarried with a new last name but still has a home ministry in Baltimore) was there at the table with us and witnessed the entire conversation. When we got home I had to write a letter to everyone explaining what happened and that we wanted no part of any of it. So things like this go on but to what extent I have on idea.

That's ok. Would not mind doing it if it really mattered. But this one could take a lot of time for very little if any gain. Comparing translations is much simpler and you get better support.

P.S. There are other verses using other words where this does matter a great deal and comparinig translations will not help much. Verses like Heb 1:3 or 1 Tim 1:17. A search such as you have suggested can be a real help.

You are asking to look up around 790 verses where epi appears. And in such verses it is translated as "in", "time," "to," "upon," "by," "unto," "as," "at," "before," and who knows what else and that is just in the first 10 chapters of Matthew in the AV. There is no question that such examples exist.

Thanks. Agreement is always nicer and enlightenment is best. It all means that we should not only think but research words more carefully. It is the really simple words where major error has its roots. I learned about a few such words fairly recently and had to correct some of my documents on important texts usually taken for granted. That is the way it goes. Never too old to learn.

Sure it can be translated either way. But even is you translate "over" instead of "on," this does not mean that this rule takes place from someplace else. You gave examples where "over" still involved the same place. To properly understand what was meant then we need to also know where all this is scheduled to take place. And there is adequate information in scripture to show that Christ will return once again to rule over this earth with His apostles and disciples. The word heaven does not cancel this out. The New Jerusalem comes down from Heaven. It does not stay there to function in our behalf. The tent of God is with mankind and the meek that will inhabit it. That is our hope.

Good one. Third heaven, paradise. Vision or not, what or where would that be? I thought about it for a long time and then asked: What and where was the first heaven? They (Jews in Corinth that wrote him) should have know the answer to that. To a Jew it would be the Law and the Kingdom ruled by it right here on earth for a few thousand year. Heaven simply denoted the authority that governed them. Then what would be the second heaven? To Jew that became a Christian in Corinth that would be the New Covenant apart from Law that now rules over them right now and right here on earth. If the reasoning is correct then the third heaven would be a vision of a future heaven where Christ now enthroned as King would rule over them when He returns as promised right here on earth and this Kingdom would also be the Paradise promised the thief. You know the same place John discussed in much of the Revelation. That heaven with it's New Jerusalem that comes down here to settle in for the duration.

Jesus said the meek will inherit the earth (see Rev 21) but his talk was always of the kingdom of the heavens. Even Abraham will be there (Matt 8:11). Pass, Matthew wrote for Jews and they did not take Kingdom of the Heavens to mean someplace else. They preferred not to use the word God and substituted Heaven(s) in its place. When writing to Gentiles of mixed company the scriptures used Kingdom of God in its place. Both mean the same thing. They knew and expected it to be right here. Even the apostles said: Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And they said this after additional training regarding this Kingdom during the 40 some days our Lord taught them after His resurrection. So it was not only the Kingdom of the Heavens, or the Kingdom of God, but the Kingdom to Israel as well. This Kingdom was correctly understood to be right here to them. But why use the word Paradise to someone not a disciple like the thief? Is there a distinction? Yes! this someone would not be part of this Kingdoms' administration and this distinction was made for them. It is the same for the meek that will inherit the earth.This is the Kingdom message we are supposed to be preaching to the inhabited earth. Is anyone doing it? Joseph

No! The name Jehovah (or Yahweh, spelling dependent upon translation) appears some 141 times in Genesis. Translators normally render it LORD in all caps but it is not dependent upon Exodus.
