I miss living at 10k feet in CO where we would get on averge +350 inches a year. Of course, you gotta love living in that sort of climate or else you would hate it!

Actually, it is a fallacy that unofficially JWs cling to that they will have individual protection. There was a family murdered at a rest stop in Tennessee a few years back on the way to or home from a DC.
Especially when you hear "experiences" at these same DC's about families enduring hardships to make an assembly and how it must have been due to Jehover's protection that they made it safely.
Time and unforseen occurrence befall us all...

How Did/Would You Propose? :)
by GetBusyLiving inso i'm going to propose to my girlfriend this weekend!
what do you ladies think would be totally romantic?
how did you dudes propose?

I thought I had it all planned out. I was going to take her with me to work that day and propose. I had the spot located, the ring ready, the stars were aligning, etc. That is, until the weather decided not to cooperate on that PARTICULAR day. At the time, I was a cellsite tech and worked in the high country in Colorado. The spot I had picked out was up on a mountainside that overlooked the Vail/Avon/Beaver Creek valley. It was early October and the Aspen tree colors were in full effect. It was beautiful, until the low clouds moved in. I was dumbfounded. I didn't have a backup plan. Looking back, I should have waited for the weather to clear or done it on another day. But no, Quickdraw Josh decided to just do it, so he proposed to her in a cellsite up on the mountain. How lovely was that?

JWs funerals.......forget about the dead person lets preach!
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the person at his funeral............what do most people get after living 70-80 years..........a 5-10 minutes eulogy....................the transition statment is "let me tell you about what fred really believed in".............................45 minutes later.....that way the specker can count his time.. as we know people in the organization are unimportant living or dead.

The last and only JW funeral I went to was around '94. Two brothers(they were fleshly bros too) and I shared an apartment in Monument, CO. We were all good friends. One day when I was at work, a brother from our hall came in and said in a somber low tone, "Josh, Elias died today." I didn't quite make it out at first, but when he said it again, all of my strength left my body and I fell to the floor. I was totally stunned. I left work and went to his parent's place. Several others were already there. Everyone just talked about the good times we had with Elias. Towards the evening, their place was packed - standing room only. No one left until late that night.
When we had the memorial at the hall the following Saturday, it was packed. They had to set up speakers outside the hall so the people standing outdoors could hear the talk. This was only the second funeral/memorial I had ever been to. The first was for my grandmother(not a witness). After roughly 10 minutes of being preached to, I couldn't stand it and went outside. I was so pissed that the brother giving the talk didn't say anything personal about Elias unless it had something to do with the "ministry." And let's not mash words here - Elias was just as much of a party boy as the rest of us were. His "spiritual" level wasn't any higher than the rest of us 21 year old wannabe frat boys.
Even back then, when I was still mentally "in," it disgusted me to hear that talk. I was expecting something totally different. To this day, I'm glad I never had to attend another jw funeral. I'm dreading the day to hear one for my parents. In fact, I'm fairly certain that I will interrupt it, take over, and say what I want to say. And I'm pretty sure that the elders in their hall might let me do it too(they all know me from when I was very little).
Death sucks. RIP - Elias Barrera

Are You Afraid To Die?
by avidbiblereader innot the kind of death, but actually dying?
not trying to be morbid, but for now, it is a part of life.. abr.

Up until around 5 or so years ago, I might have said yes. But the way I view things now, I would have to say no. The reason for that is because I've told myself a thousand times that everyone dies. Once you come to accept the fact that you are going to die at some point in the future, you can start living your life now and stop being afraid of your end. There is no "life" saving cure or religious haven that will sustain our present life.
When I die, I want it to involve some sort of freefall -- plane crash, falling off a very tall building or cliff, etc. My wife thinks I'm a freak for wanting to die in one of those ways. I tell her that I want to experience the ultimate freefall rush right before I die. That's how I wanna go.

Label the act for returning to JWism for family only (e.g. Gumby)
by UnConfused ini think it's a deserving act of love to make the sacrifice to rejoin a cult in order to stay connected to your family.
it's putting your love of your family over so so many things.
what could we call it so we could easily understand someone's actions who also does this?
-
Jourles
Gumnuts - "It took some big Gumnuts on his part to go back."
Gumbyland - "You heard me correctly. I'm going back to Gumbyland for the sake of my family."

Did feel that you were at a mental breaking point at the point of leaving?
by jambon1 inprior to you leaving the org did you come to the conclusion that if you didnt actually take the step and leave, that you would run into serious mental difficulty.. i really feel that for 5 years proir to my finally leaving i was quite impaired mentally by the teachings and practices of the org.
it was coming to a head though when i finally announced that i was leaving.
i really felt that i was under intense mental pressure and that if i didnt get out then i may end up doing something serious.
-
Jourles
Exactly as you described it jambon. It was tearing me up inside. I always had an ill feeling. As soon as I was df'd, the mental yoke was literally lifted off of my shoulders/mind. The feeling of complete freedom was unparalleled. Even now, nearly two years later, the mental freedom is the best part of my life.

Since Brothers should never sue...
by AuldSoul inwhat would happen if a congregation or two decided not to pay back their kingdom hall loans?
-
Jourles
Simple. Since the WTS owns the note, they can just sell the hall and disband the congregation and make them travel elsewhere.

John Denver v Jay Leno
by pobthespazz ini 've heard snippets of this absurd urban myth about jay leno asking j denver to leave his show because he hated jw's.
but why on earth on a prime time slot would j leno start asking j denver about jw's?
and i don't think j leno is a particularly spiritual guy or wt supporter is he?

Abbagail,
The Aspen, CO KH lot was donated by a family in the area. I'd say roughly 1/10th of the Aspen congo has serious money. The others just love living in the area or are transients that come for the winter season(younger guys). The Silverthorne, CO KH lot was also donated by a local family. I know both families.
