Do you even care about the war of the Muslims?

a man i knew very well at work, who i even traveled to mexico with on a company trip, is a muslim from afghanistan.

he told me once, "never trust any muslim, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late.

" i found this interesting as this man was muslim.

If the USA pulled out of Iraq....the Iranians and Syrians will own the country and the Oil. Don't ya know that is why these two countries are helping the insurgents. Iran and Syria don't give a damn about the people.

And why is it better for the US to control the flow of oil compared to say, Iran or Syria? I wonder if the world would find it acceptable for Iran to set up military bases in Iraq? If not, why not? They have the same right to be there just as the US does.

and of course the USA is there for the OIL, BUT I do think they want to help the people as well. At least I hope so.

Oil is just one of many reasons(it helps keep the Humvees and Abrams tanks humming). Imperial dominance is probably nearer to the top.

The Bush administration needs an excuse to go after Iran and Syria, and thats why they are saying that the insurgents are getting their weapons from these 'terrible' regimes.

That, along with UN SC defiance by not shutting down enrichment activities. The old Downing Street Memo outlined what Bush's plans were prior to invading Iraq. By building "evidence" against Iran one step at a time, we are being led into very familiar territory once again. I'm just waiting to hear of an "alleged" attack on US troops by an Iranian ship/jet/missle which will give Bush the ooomff he needs to start up another war. When I say "alleged," I mean an attack by the US against the US. It wouldn't be the first time a scheme like this was dreamed up.

point fingers at Americans for the excuse to kill your fellow countrymen. That makes sense!

Let's go back to the occupied USA example for a minute. What if the Democrats acquiesced to the occupiers and fully supported them, even going the distance to help set up a new form of government, one that was not a democracy. And on the other hand, we have the staunch Republicans who will not bow to any other form of government, let alone being occupied by another country. Radical Republicans start attacking the supporters of the occupying country - the Democrats. The Democrats start fighting back. Religion doesn't even factor into this chaos. It's Red against Blue. Even within some groups, there are Democrats who take the side of the Republicans in that they despise the occupation. They attack their own "people" for giving support.

Hypothetical situation or not, this would probably happen. In the USA, just look at how people on both sides are disparaging each other simply for supporting or denouncing the war in Iraq. The ones for the war call the pacifists "Anti-American" and "terrorist supporters." These are just words, but really, how far off are we from having our own little civil strife between these groups? When these group's emotions get fired up as it is and we don't even have an occupying force in our backyard, how safe do you think the streets would be if we did?

A similar situation is happening in Iraq right now and we were the cause of it. You have two distinct populations vying for power and control of the country. They're not killing each other for the fun of it. They both want control of the country and the US forces are stuck in the middle of one of the largest power plays in the history of man. The US might as well get the hell out of Dodge and let them fight it out. If not, this thing is going to linger for many, many more years.

It's not. In more current events, we have Ireland to thank for that.(but I will still make that my next out of the country vacation spot!)

I got the 'prodigal son' treatment from my parents last night

yep, i opened a letter and received a highlighted 5 page print out from the watchtower library cd.

i find it somewhat insulting they think i'm lost and wasting my life.

i'm curious to see how others have responded to this kind of treatment..

You should ask your parents if they will accept you back if you just show up on their doorstep. Or is it - will they accept you back if you show up on the doorstep of the kh? Tell them there is a difference between the two...

When I first read your thread title, I thought your parents welcomed you home with open arms. Sorry, I'm not sure how a highlighted WT article coorelates with the PS??

Anyways, I would tear out a few pages from the NWT, highlight some pertinent passages(the PS one would be good, Jesus dining with sinners, and anything else that would make them get in a tizzy), and then send those torn pages back to them. Tell them that the bible is the ultimate authority in your life and not some 32 page rag with predictable and often repeatable articles.

It seems this statement could fit many others as well ---

A JW saying, "Never trust any JW, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late."
A Scientologist saying, "Never trust any Scientologist, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late."
A Moonie saying, "Never trust any Moonie, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late."
A politician saying, "Never trust any Politician, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late."
A Republican saying, "Never trust any Republican, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late."
A Demoract saying, "Never trust any Democrat, as they will not tell you the truth about themselves until it is too late."

Making a blanket statement not to trust ANY member of a group is just the same as speaking one of the above sayings. Not true. There are some you can trust, and there are others who lead double lives and have hidden agendas.

Let's not start this Iran nukes/no nukes argument again. As soon as someone can legitimately defend the USA's stance towards Iran based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, a true discussion can begin. Otherwise, people's "feelings" do not carry any weight on this matter. Continuing to label countries as "terrorist states" [parroting what the US and UK tell us everyday] contributes nothing to a worthwhile discussion.

Just because the US troops wear an official uniform doesn't mean they are not viewed as terrorists by the Iraqi people. If I were an Iraqi, I would be out there hiding in the bushes trying to shoot down helicopters and planting roadside bombs as well. Just the same as if Iraq was to invade the US and occupy this country. I would be out there on Main St. USA picking off Iraqi troops and planting roadside bombs. Just because I'm not wearing a uniform, it doesn't make me a terrorist.

well i am off to madison........... my husband, aka doormat is on a business trip, so i am driving down to see him - as if!

i am dropping off the kids and seeing good girl or bad girl.

yeah, I remember when they started this. I was still in. My wife would try to share hers with me, but I would refuse to look at it and tried to make it noticeable to everyone around me.

The WTS may think this will get people to become regular(peer presure), but it only served to isolate me even further.

I applied to a university yesterday.

after a few years of humming and hawing, i decided i would.

it was more of what i would take that held me back then if i should go.. i'm only 28, so i'm not too far behind.

we'll see how working full time and going to school will go.

I'd be interested in finding out how others have found hitting the books more then 10 years after high school was for them.

It's been more than 15 years or so for me(counting my dropout year from previous comm college). I started seriously looking about a year and a half ago. I already knew what I wanted to go back for(telecommunications - 14 year career so far). At first, I was hesitant about applying 'cuz I thought my app might get rejected for some reason -- too old, never took SAT, ACT, etc... None of the colleges in my town offered a program that I was looking for so I knew that online classes were going to be the route I had to take. I had narrowed down my choices to a few colleges, but I ended up applying at the one with the best undergrad telecommunications program in the States. It became a no-brainer after this university renamed their school of computer science after my company's CEO. Employees of my company also get a $500 discount per credit from their normal tuition rates. That goes a long way too since my company caps the amount that they'll pay each year(8k).

Getting in was easy and painless. The most difficult part of getting in was having my previous schools send my transcripts to the new school. And even then, it wasn't that difficult. Now that I'm in, I've found that my classes are fairly easy. I didn't particulary like high school and my previous college(but I still did good) and I thought I might struggle a bit more in this new college. I definitely have more drive to do well. I have matured more too. I'm making it my personal goal to finish out my degree with *_* cum laude honors if I can. It's not for bragging rights or anything like that, I just want to prove to myself that I can do it and not have any jw influence over me whatsoever while doing it.

I know you can do it. If you are serious about going back, you already have the drive to tackle it. If someone was undecided about going to college, then I would say don't do it. The first step is wanting to go. From there, it's all downhill.
