go do some things together and meet people who enjoy the same thing. Whether dancing, boating, playing cards, etc, get out and circulate.
Unfortunately it takes time, but hey, you have the rest of you life. Many people retire or move at your age and start building new friends. Its just that as JWs we were not encouraged to do so but I know you can do it.
You two can always do some volunteer work that is dear to your heart. Or you can come here and yak with us, we understand.
If you ever get a chance to go to a fest with the good people here, do so. It soothes the soul.
Now go on out there and enjoy!

Puns upon Puns - (WARNING! Some real groaners here!)
by PopeOfEruke inpuns upon puns .
those who jump off a bridge in paris are in seine.. a backward poet writes inverse.. a man's home is his castle, in a manor of speaking.. dijon vu - the same mustard as before.. practice safe eating - always use condiments.. shotgun wedding: a case of wife or death.. a man needs a mistress just to break the monogamy.. a hangover is the wrath of grapes.. dancing cheek-to-cheek is really a form of floor play.. does the name pavlov ring a bell?.
condoms should be used on every conceivable occasion.. reading while sunbathing makes you well red.. when two egotists meet, it's an i for an i.. a bicycle can't stand on its own because it is two tired.. what's the definition of a will?

it is so sad to watch a parent die slowly over years. This is just awful, especially right after (well, its only been a year) the shock of losing your dad so suddenly.
Please take what precious little time you have left with your mom and convey the love you have for her the best way you now how. Non-verbal is very amazing.
And take care of your family as you go through another milestone in your life.
Hugs to you all.

*standing and applauding Angharad & Simon (& sons) for getting out together!!
thank you for your story.
I loved this part "Becoming an ExJW should be a process, a stage, and not the final destination that some people make it. We should all aim to become Ex-Ex-JWs and leave everything to do with the WTS behind us. Some will find that easier than others and some have to stick around longer because of friends and family but I think it should be our goal."
Amen, Brother Green.

you don't have to ever talk to them again. You don't owe them anything. If & when you feel comfortable to ever talk to them, then do so. But DON"T ever feel any guilt over how you react to JWs.
Love yourself. That's the first thing to do.
Hugs,

My heart is broken.....
by Strawberryfieldsforever inwhen you don't have much family left because they are all lost in the religion, you hang on to the family you have.
i take care of my aunt (who is only 2 years older than i am).
she is a drug addict and alcoholic.

(((Strawberryfields))))
I hope YOU have the strength to get through this.
maybe..........but she is already slowly killing herself. It is the choices SHE has made, whether in her "right" mind or not.She will kill herself if I don't help her
May I suggest you attend some AlAnon meetings, the ones for family, friends of alcoholics/chemical dependents.
Show your love for her by letting the professionals help if get "dried out". You may think it is love, but many times you are enabling her with her addictions, like others have said here.
Educate yourself on the disease of alocoholism/chemical dependency. I feel it is a disease but we are not without choices in our lives.
Sending hugs your way.

Does it ever get easier?
by Surfacing inmy heart is palpitating even as i write this.
it was only recently that i was introduced to this site.
i had long had doubts but could never bring myself to peer over the wall built in my head about the evils of apostates.

Surfacing,
you might enjoy Karen Armstrong's books on the "History of God" , etc. She gets into the background of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic beliefs.
The whold world is in front of you. And yes, isn't it exciting to read what we thought was "worldly" before and really learn!
Enjoy!

ps, have you read Raymond Franz's book "Crisis of Conscience"? May help you realize what type of an "organization" we were involved with.
