Unfortunately I can't do that one undercover, my fam already told people I was away and I actually texted a "friend" back telling them what I was doing when I was on my way back... a mistake I will not make again. I can just see my "friends" faces feeling superior when they see me knowing it was not a legitimate reason to go by any means... sigh. They prob already know it was with worldy people, hence my anxiety. At the time I followed my values of honesty, if only the WTS was honest with us.

Anxious about meeting...
by gutted ini know there are other topics related to this, i started one earlier similar to this but here goes anyway.. so i skipped a couple of meetings of the co visit to hang out with some "worldly" friends and we went out of town.
i think some of my closer "friends" at the hall found out from my family and now i am dreading going to the next meeting and hearing their encouring "where were you!?"..
it fills me with anxiety.

Great suggestions I will use for sure. I like the direct approach yknot and leavingwt made. I think I'll go with "Yes, I was out of town... but hey what did I miss, anything new from the CO, what should I be working on this time?"
I was also thinking if some elders ask me more on what is going on, why am I missing meetings etc. I will go with "I am going through some issues right now, which I don't wish to discuss at this time" possibly followed by "but I appreciate your concern and will get in touch with you if I need to talk them through".
I hope that will make it easier, thanks again guys.

Hi all,
I know there are other topics related to this, I started one earlier similar to this but here goes anyway.
So I skipped a couple of meetings of the CO visit to hang out with some "worldly" friends and we went out of town. I think some of my closer "friends" at the hall found out from my family and now I am dreading going to the next meeting and hearing their encouring "where were you!?".. it fills me with anxiety. I still think it's best I still go to some meetings and fade out during the summer, a couple of circumstances dictate I still do this, though I would love never going to another meeting or field service arrangement again.
I think I'll just tell the truth, "yeah went out with some friends" but that would raise big red flags in their minds and no doubt lead to further questions.
I hate to ask for advice again on this topic, but please...
I guess this still shows I am still under the mind control of the group, I'm working mentally to break away.

What I hate most about missing the meetings...
by gutted in...is when people ask why i wasn't there.
usually i tell them, that i was sick, or not feeling well, which for the most part is true.
what is irritating is when someone presses it, especially someone you are closer with in the congregation.

nelly136 makes a very good point, convention seating in stadiums is brutal. I have long legs and my knees will generally cramp up sitting that long, that or my butt...

First century vs Today
by gutted ini was discussing doctrine with my mom, to try to get her to see things in another way.
unfortunately things got heated.
she obviously has doubts, but seems to be of the thinking of better not to question and just go along.. she did make a good point though.

Greetings,
I was discussing doctrine with my mom, to try to get her to see things in another way. Unfortunately things got heated. She obviously has doubts, but seems to be of the thinking of better not to question and just go along.
She did make a good point though. When looking at doctrine or GB, elders, one proposing to be guided by holy spirit, was it not the same case in the first century and previously? These ones also made mistakes (apostles, David, cicumcision issue, Paul's issues with brothers, etc.), and they continued in Gods favour. She equates the same thing with the WT society. I tried to use other reasoning as well, in regards to the control of ones life by an organization, disfellowshipping etc.
What line of reasoning can be used in the first case, perhaps scriptures.
Thanks.

Only recently having my eyes opened my Dub inclinations would answer:
1. The motivation behind this tower (as other posters have stated) was in direct opposition to God, whereas the buildings/space travel today is not doing so directly.
2. Gods intervention in the early history of humankind was much more so then today.

I think I know how you are feeling, a little bit anyway. I've missed the last 3 meetings, granted I was sick but the last one I did more because I just didn't want to go.
My mom said something like"you're breaking my heart, you're hurting Jehovah" because I voiced my concerns about the WTS... Kinda wish I didn't, but couldn't contain myself. I won't be telling anyone else. Today was a bad day just thinking about it all...

oh wait, is this another way to get people to conform without scriptural basis.... i want a goatee :(.... actually i'm thinking of growing one and then people would get the idea that i'm not doing so hot in "the truth"..

Stayed up all night, see it is a cult now.
by gutted ini really needed to find a place to write this as i don't believe i can talk with anyone else about my account, perhaps it is similar to a lot of yours.. last night for whatever reason i said i would go online and look up information on jws.
i have been raised as a jw all my life and baptized the last few years.
i looked at www.freeminds.org and www.sixscreensofthewatchtower.com and couldn't believe how easily the whole of my lifes teachings were refuted.. i can't stop my brain from running, bs just in regards to theology alone (1914, paradise earth, celebrations etc.

To update, I am about 160 pages into Crisis of Conscience and reading other information on the internet. My understanding of the history and methods of the cult are becoming clearer.
One question I do have is, say at work being a devote JW previously, shunning many things, how did you guys go about perhaps changing some things? Say now you want to go for an after work drink, or that slice of birthday cake doesn't seem so bad.
Also how did you go about explaining your position now to say "worldy" friends or family members?
