How to Pray?
by brotherdan ini've been learning a bit about the early jews perspective on prayer and how it applied to jesus' model prayer in matthew 6. it's facinating to me.
sometimes i forget how important prayer is to the christian in more than just asking for things and thanking god for things.
i wanted to list a few perspectives the jews had on prayer and how we can benefit from it.. fist, they thought prayer should incorporate love and praise.

I don't know streets76, I'm sure some people do that, but when I say I'll pray for someone I do it.

Yes, I knew it was from a solid Bible teacher brotherdan read the info from to share with us. I don't think he claimed to take credit for himself or to mislead others.
Great topic brotherdan, I really needed to see something like this today. I appreciate you sharing it with us.
JWN is where I get my fellowship too.

What silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?
by 3Mozzies inso what silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?.
back in my early 20's, i had a pair of comfy old jeans that started to tear in about 3 places on the leg.
it was the fashion at the time so not only did they feel great to wear, they also looked 'in', not that i cared for that, but it was a bonus .

We were told to get to the hall earlier so we could get a seat near the back with our newborn. I felt like saying we would get there earlier if we could dumba$$, we can't control when our baby poops or spits up all over our clothes. Funny how we were spoken to, but the people taking up the back rows that were supposed to be saved for elderly ones or people with young families weren't.
We also had an elder tell us that kids seem noiser nowadays and misbehave because parents don't believe in spankings.
If they don't like children being children, then they should bring back the nursery and children's classes they used to have in the 20s.

I would ignore it if possible. With time, things will get better.
This is a nice scripture that helped me feel better about missing meetings:
Ephesians 2:8-10 (New International Version)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
JWs are so focused on works, they try and use guilt and fear to keep us captives.

by MrFreeze inhow do you leave the organization?
what do you say to your loved ones that you'll rarely if ever talk to again?
i want to know what some of you who have left the organization have said to parents, friends, or others close to you as you were leaving as to your reasons..

I agree with wasblind. I wouldn't have been so brutally honest if my circumstances were different.
Great advice wasblind!

What's the policy...
by MrFreeze inwhat is the policy for disfellowshipped people in your family for when they get sick?
for instance.
let's say your disfellowshipped son/daughter gets seriously sick and needs someone to help take care of this.

One of my friends was DF'd and she moved back to her parent's house for awhile. They had to talk to the elders about it because she's an adult, but they were told it was up to their conscience.
