I would rate them as 0/10 as they are a mind control group using religion as a front. They are not about truth nor are they about God. They are about power and control. That being said the people inside believe they are in a religion serving God so of course there will be some good that comes from the good people within. I'm hoping that they will wake up to being duped.

Rate JW's out of 10 compared to other religions.
by Essan inso most of us here have been jw's or have read enough to have a decent grasp of the religion.
while we were there we were told jw's were the happiest, most righteous, best dressed, most polite, helpful people and our religion the purest and most accurate for of christianity in the world.. most here now would say all that probably wasn't entirely true.
lol.. if you have had exposure to other religions before or since where do you rate jw's overall compared to these religions?

Im finally leaving my jw husband.
by littlebird insome of you know i have struggled with this for awhile.
i really do believe in marriage and the committment, however, sometimes enough is enough.. his endless preaching at me and calling me and my (adult) children satan has me realizing that this situation is not going to get better.
the other day he kicked my son out of the house for wearing a cap, in his car, with a skull on it.

Littlebird you have my hearfelt empathy! It is a scary thing after than many years to be on your own but your sanity is worthy it. My husband is the same way and he is manipulating my son about the truth. I want to get my son out that is why I can't make a move yet. I'm trying to convince my husband but it goes nowhere and it is so frustrating! I completely understand the walking on eggshells. There comes a point where you just can't take it anymore.
I wish you all the very best. Take it one day at a time - you can do it! You will be able to think in peace and get to know yourself better and you will be stronger for it. Nobody needs someone telling them they are buddies with Satan. How hateful.
Take good care of yourself and good luck!

I don't know if this helps or not but here is an excerpt from the Watchtower. They certainly know what they are doing! It would be interesting to get a copy of the brochure they have about charitable planning.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLDWIDE WORK
MANY set aside, or budget, an amount that they place in the contribution boxes labeled “Contributions for the Society’s Worldwide Work—Matthew 24:14.” Each month congregations forward these amounts either to the world headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, or to the local branch office.
Voluntary donations of money may also be sent directly to the Treasurer’s Office, Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, New York 11201-2483, or to the Society’s office that serves your country. Jewelry or other valuables may be donated as well. A brief letter stating that such is an outright gift should accompany these contributions.
CONDITIONAL-DONATION ARRANGEMENT
Money may be given to the Watch Tower Society under a special arrangement in which, should the donor have a personal need, the donation will be returned to him. For more information, please contact the Treasurer’s Office at the address noted above.
CHARITABLE PLANNING
In addition to outright gifts of money and conditional donations of money, there are other methods of giving to benefit Kingdom service worldwide. These include:
Insurance: The Watch Tower Society may be named as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or in a retirement/pension plan.
Bank Accounts: Bank accounts, certificates of deposit, or individual retirement accounts may be placed in trust for or made payable on death to the Watch Tower Society, in accord with local bank requirements.
Stocks and Bonds: Stocks and bonds may be donated to the Watch Tower Society either as an outright gift or under an arrangement whereby income continues to be paid to the donor.
Real Estate: Salable real estate may be donated to the Watch Tower Society either by making an outright gift or by reserving a life estate to the donor, who can continue to live therein during his or her lifetime. One should contact the Society before deeding any real estate to the Society.
Wills and Trusts: Property or money may be bequeathed to the Watch Tower Society by means of a legally executed will, or the Society may be named as a beneficiary of a trust agreement. A trust benefiting a religious organization may provide certain tax advantages.
As the term “charitable planning” implies, these types of donations typically require some planning on the part of the donor. To assist individuals desiring to benefit the Society through some form of charitable planning, the Society has prepared an English-language brochure entitled Planned Giving to Benefit Kingdom Service Worldwide. The brochure was written in response to the many inquiries the Society has received regarding gifts, wills, and trusts. It also contains additional useful information on estate, financial, and tax planning. And it is designed to help individuals in the United States who are planning to make a special gift to the Society now or to leave a bequest at death to select the most advantageous and efficient method in the light of their family and personal circumstances. This brochure may be obtained by requesting a copy directly from the Charitable Planning Office.
After reading the brochure and conferring with the Charitable Planning Office, many have been able to assist the Society and at the same time, maximize the tax benefits of doing so. The Charitable Planning Office should be informed of and receive a copy of any relevant document pertaining to any of these arrangements. If you are interested in any of these charitable planning arrangements, you should contact the Charitable Planning Office, either in writing or by telephone, at the address listed below or at the Society’s office that serves your country.

That absolutely sickens me! That is pure evil. It's not enough that families are suffering at the loss of their loved ones the WTS steals what belongs to their children! I haven't heard of this form. Is it possible to phone them up and request a copy of the form? I'm not sure that they would give it but it would be worth a try. I'm hoping someone on this forum might know more about it.
This information certainly needs to go public! I'm sure it is wreaking havoc on many people's lives.

Wow - what brave men!
I'm really confused as to why this wasn't mentioned in the highlights portion of the DC or in the list of announcements!
The transparency of the WTS is like looking through a mud pit.

What would it take for you to stop being a Jehovah's Witness?

Great question Will.
Cult Classic - you nailed it on the head. I saw all the discrepances and felt them but it wasn't until I gave myself permission to go beyond and actually think and research for myself that I got to where I am now. It sounds like a little step but boy it took courage as I had such fear that God was going to strike me down. The mind control that we were under is huge. I guess we have to remember that when we get discouraged by others not listening. They need to battle with fear and do something that is considered Satanic "independent thinking." They are already wary of us and scared to trust anything we say and now we are asking them to listen to us and go against everything they have been programmed against. It's difficult but certainly not impossible as we are proof that it can be done.
Unconditional love is a big help too.

Should Immigrants Be Made To Learn English If They're Living In The USA?

If you move to another country I believe it is your responsibility to learn that language to the best of your ability. It is both for your own welfare and that of others. V665 makes a good point about laws. You cannot come to another country and say I'm going to do it this way because that is how it's done in my country. You live by the laws of the new country you are now a part of. You can't just move somewhere and expect that country to live by your laws - then it does beg the question as to why you moved in the first place.
Everyone has customs they are proud of and that is great to keep them going as long as you don't infringe upon others. I think respect is very important.

Sending you hugs! What an awful religion this is to put a wedge between parents and their children! I'm so sorry for your pain. I also believe that you need to concentrate on your healthy relationships and get strong through them. Thenoblelodge brings up a good point about the WTS tightening up how people treat ones who are inactive/apostate. They are losing many people and are really laying on the mind control to have people abandom family that are apostate and/or inactive. It is sick, twisted and hateful. Take good care of yourself and perhaps the unconditional love that you show will win your mother's heart. We don't know what the future holds and what may wake her up one day.
I wish you all the best!

A Fond Farewell
by 5thGeneration ini want to take this opportunity to say goodbye to all of the members on jwn and thank you for your support over the years.. circumstances have arisen that make it impossible for me to continue posting here.. i have truly appreciated your love and support during some hard times when i had no one else to talk to.. you showed compassion and a non-judgmental, christlike attitude for thoughts and feelings that could not be openly expressed to any of the brothers in the congregation for fear of reprisal.
for that, i am so grateful!.
thanks to the many of you that could relate to the pain and worthlessness that i have felt about myself for so many years because of my experiences and upbringing in the truth.

Okay - this post has been bugging me too - that scripture at the end scares me. Quillsky - I'm worried about the same thing. If anyone on this forum has been in contact with him could they please check on him?
I sincerely hope it is due to the interests of his family.

Shunned by the world, then by the JWs and then shunned by Theists, when does this end?
by cyberjesus inwhen i was a jw i always hide my jw status to people of the world because i was taught that we were hated by satan and his world.
and indeed in school i experienced being ostracized by my religious beliefs and everytime i had to take a stand not saluting the flag i was the object of ridicule.. then when i left the jw now i am shunned by my family by taking a firm posture on my beliefs or disbeliefs.
now i am ostracized by my own jw family because i dont go along their set of doctrines.. now that i have abandoned any religious belief altogether feel how most people who dont believe in a god are ostracized from the majority of the populations.

I have not ever been shunned for being a witness. The "worldly" people were usually much nicer to me than the ones in my own hall who were too busy gossiping, being jealous or hateful. I was bugged a few times in school but no big deal most others were nice and didn't really care what I believed. I was never one to push my beliefs on people and always believed that people have the right to believe what they want - it's their life and their choice. Perhaps that’s why I wasn’t an exemplary witness! The WT teaches a veneer of love – it is not a true love and acceptance of others. Anyone different is to be thrown away and cast out. They have done such a disservice to families and people’s lives.
As for what people believe once they come out of the organization - again that is completely up to them. After what I've been through with this organization I don't know what to believe myself. I don't trust anything that is written by man. I’m leery to accept anything. I guess that comes with the territory of finding out you’ve been completely duped. You’re more reticent.
Hearing other’s points of views helps to sharpen our critical thinking skills. The world is so much bigger and more complex than the WTS canned and sterilized mind control version of things. None of us have all the answers. Anyone that thinks they do is terribly misguided.
People have a right to believe what they want as long as their beliefs don’t infringe upon others. Shunning completely unloving.
