That's really good advice cult classic, and I am also trying to move past the bitterness which is very hard at times.

disfellowshipping
by ex-chum intypically is there a limit to the number of disfellowships a person can receive before they're "out"?
i'm specifically referring to my ex, who has a marriage/relationship that results in a babyx2.
she just mentioned that it was harder to get back into good graces this last time.

She is a lifetime witness but gets outted to have a life.
I am puzzled to know why anyone would want to keep going back into prison once they had successfully escaped!!!

Are you still programmed by the borg?
by asilentone inunfortunately, my answer is yes, it takes time to deprogram everything, probably never to the fullest.

Me and Hubby faded about 20 years ago so we are a lot better now, but as man in black said it can rise up unexpectedly from time to time so I don't know if we will ever be truly free from it.

What is the point of praying?
by hoggieman inhi, i dont post here too often, but i was reading the other post about why bad things happen, and i am curious for everyones thoughts on this: i have recently left about 9 months ago.
at first i thought i was closer to god and was reading the bible more than ever.... praying asking for help, clarity, etc.....but after a while i started to ask myself why would god answer my messily little prayers when hundreds of thousands were dieing in haiti?
the witness mindset that i remember was not to pray for things to happen, but for strength for yourself to do something.

I'm afraid prayer to me is the same as wishful thinking. The power of the mind can be so strong that if you wish for something to happen intensely enough, with a deep conviction that it will happen, it very often does.
We hear of people in recent years who have practiced the art of Cosmic Ordering with positive results, who refuse to believe it was just a lucky coincidence and firmly believe in some kind of supernatural force in the universe that brought about the fortunate turn of events, in the same way God fearing people firmly believe that God has answered their prayers for them.
Personally, I gave up praying a long time before I faded as I failed to see the point in it.
At the end of the day, if you believe in prayer it will probably work for you, and if you don't have the conviction (like me) it is probably a waste of time.

Studies in the Scriptures
by brotherdan inso for s&gs i started reading russells early works beginning today.
i started with the 1886 "plan of the ages" book.
already going through paragraph 1 i am seeing some huge signposts for what would happen later in the religion.. in his explanation of a beginning of an examination into the scriptures he says that there are only 2 ways open to us.

I'm not sure if anyone else will think this is interesting or not. But I just thought it was profound that even in 1886, at the very start of the organization, they made their stance as false prophets before God.
It was a direct result of finding and reading Russell's books that caused me to start thinking for myself and seeing through the web of deceipt that was the WTBTS.
I would recommend everyone who is interested in trying to get to the bottom of what makes the WTBTS 'tick' needs to go back to the beginning and read all Russell's books and also about the people/societies he was involved with.
Thanks for the links yknot.

Twickenham Assembly 1963 newsreel
by dozy ina bit before my time , but hopefully of interest to some.
the food service brings back memories of the 70's & 80's before it was "simplified" by the wtbts.. it would seem that the 60's & early 70's were very much a golden era for the society , before the 1975 debacle.
it is always amazing watching baptisms of adults - i honestly can't remember the last time a reasonably compus mentis adult was baptised at an asembly.. http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=chrp_&m=jz1jo9yc4yjrty&b=tdwz1ywjej1njt4nmqic2a.

Anyone over 40 that film is likely dead now. They were convinced they were one of "millions now living who would never die".
Yes, Mickey mouse, I find it really sad as well. We joined in the mid 1960s when my parents were in their 30s and my memories of Twickers were of us all being euphoric in the belief that none of us would ever die.
My dad died 25 years ago and my Mom is now very frail but still as loyal and devoted as ever. She is doing her best to struggle to at least one day of the convention this year despite being very poorly.
If only we could go back in time and let all the adult JWs in the newsreel know that this old system would still be here in 2010 and that they were being conned.

Evidence that God hates cats
by SweetBabyCheezits ini, for one, sensed that cats were from the devil ever since that demon-cat, toonces, was shown driving an automobile on live tv.. (orange feline, 2/3 of the way down on the right side, getting his.).

I'm now on a mission to save cats. I will be reciting scriptures to every moggy I pass in the street, for even if I reach one puss with a receptive heart it will be worth all the effort.
Dogs, being slightly less satanic than the average moggy, will simply be trained to bark in a manner that sounds like 'Jah'. That should help save a few, hopefully.

Snuffles the family dog, Tiddles the cat and the little girl clutching her dolly deffinately deserve to die an orrible death for failing to take the Watchtower & Awake magazines off Sister Smug when she knocked their door last year.
Those images make me feel sick

Thanks so much for finding that dozy. Goodness, that brings back some memories! My family joined a couple or so years after that film was made but it was just the same when I started going and I can remember the food tent! I've been scanning the crowds to try and spot someone I know but haven't managed to find anyone so far. I'll show it to my husband when he gets home as I am pretty sure he would have been there at the time with his Mom!
But I nearly choked when the clipped 'BBC English' voice said, "They stand for what the Bible teaches - literally, and without any fancy interpretations.
You and me both, Ann!!!

Hell I am soooooo angry...its like this big burst of anger has just come from somewhere deep inside.....horrible....
Loz, I can understand exactly how you feel and I send heartfelt {{{{{{hugs}}}}}} to you and everyone else experiencing these awful feelings of suppressed anger, resentment and bitterness for all the lost years stolen by the Borg. No-one could understand unless they have been through it themselves. I am a very easy going person but these feelings of anger can be quite overwhelming.
My love to you, Loz, and everyone else going through it at the moment. When you get upset, just come on this board and let off steam and there will be loads of understanding people to help you feel better xxxxx
