I may be wrong but could it have something to do with control? I say this because you often hear of people living in highly controlled environments developing eating disorders of one form or another. The GB control practically every aspect of a Dub's life so food is about the only thing they have relative freedom over.
Most of the congregations I have been associated with over the years have had several members trying out various diets and swearing by certain foods while they shun others. I can remember the Atkins diet being popular and I think I've still got the diet sheets somewhere that a sister gave me.
again, sorry for getting a song stuck in your head.. .
2. though thousands will be falling,.
yes, at your very side,.
They changed Keep Your Eyes on the Prize. They changed the musical arrangement as well. I first sang it about a month ago at my last meeting and thought, ohhh they didn't change this one! Cool! Not a split second later, changed musical arrangment and words. I stopped singing, I was pissed.
Oh no! Keep your eyes on the Prize was my favourite song. It brings back so many memories for me from an era long gone.
I'm feeling all nostalgic and sad now

the dangers of being deceived (page 10/11).
to deceive, says one dictionary, means to cause to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.
Regardless of whether the article is meant for the rank and file JWs to read or just to hand out to the general public it points to the fact that whoever is responsible for the article knows exactly what mind control is all about. It would be good to think it is an insider trying to send some sort of message, you never know
Two sentences stand out to me:
Perhaps he gets so emotionally attached to his belief that he simply shuts his eyes and closes his ears to any evidence that might challenge it.
This statement blaming emotional attachment is true of many JWs, but not the primary reason. And shutting of eyes and closing of ears is compulsory for JWs whether they like it or not.
Surely, a person who is not aware that he or she is being kept in a state of “ignorance, bewilderment, or helplessness” by deliberate misinformation is in serious danger.
And there we have it, direct from the pages of the Watchtower for all to see. KEPT IN A STATE OF IGNORANCE - BY DELIBERATE MISINFORMATION.
The rank and file are told to encourage non JWs to see that examining their beliefs is a good, healthy thing to do, yet they themselves are not allowed to examine any teachings other than that which comes directly from the Governing Body. What is the difference? If JWs have the truth then it should stand up to any scrutiny surely! Telling them that the Devil will use such means to lure them away from 'The Truth' is pathetic, surely the average JW's faith is strong enough to withstand a bit of cross examination and questioning by other faiths? If not, then there is something seriously wrong.
Let's hope some astute householder (possibly an ex JW) reads this article and brings it to the Publisher's attention on the following visit.
Very interesting!!!
Back in the 1960s I spent a week staying with a sister who's congregation was over 90% female and only had two brothers capable to taking meetings. One of them had to preside over every meeting so goodness knows what happened if he was ever ill! The other brother, I don't know if he was an elder or a MS but he could only attend the KH every other Sunday because of his job, running the ferry crossing. There was a group of sisters who took on all the duties of Elders and Ministerial Servants such as running the book room and attending to congregation needs but without the titles bestowed on brothers who normally do these tasks. One sister who was clearly in charge but very humble and sweet told me her husband used to be the Presiding Overseer but ran off with one of the only other brothers (I kid you not) in the congo a year or so previously.
That sister's congregation was one of the happiest, united and well organised group of people I have ever known! If anyone ever deserved the title of Elder she did!!!!
this is a revival of an old thread: http://www.jwsupportforum.com/index.php?topic=8144.0;topicseen.
i revived it as i was looking for it to show to someone else.. it seems they wish they could legally kill people's own family members.
since they cannot, they encourage believing mates to prostitute themselves with the unbeliever- trade sex (marital due) for financial support.. here's the older wt article that reveals "their" attitude toward unbelieving or df'ed family members:.
They cry apostasy yet they don't care if they leave God - just don't leave the organization. The article highlights that they wish they had the ability to tell family members to kill their own apostate members. They want to silence opposition forever so they don't lose $. SICK.
They are the ones who are Satanic, hateful and evil.
I couldn't agree more. The whole thing fills me with horror. Even if armageddon was coming next week and I knew JWs were to be the only survivors I would rather die than survive to live in a world where the Watchtower Society were free to do as they please to anybody with no laws preventing them. I don't think the rank and file realise what their lives could be like under the rule of their precious GB without the protection of the laws of the land that exist in this 'wicked' system.
Absolutely adorable!!! I do hope your husband will be OK so you can keep him!
compare these two "generation" quotes from the watchtower -- which one is correct?
how did god's "channel of communication" make an error this big?.
the watchtower, november 1st, 1995, pages 30-31:.
WTBTS = Watchtower Bible and Tacking Society
yesterday i was in tim hortons with grandson.
a witness that i know quite well comes in, sees me and comes over and sits down.
after sundry greetings talk goes to how dire things are in the "world" etc.
Jehovah's Witnesses = Chicken Little "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!"
I think every JW shrieking warnings at us to hurry back into the safety of the Borg because the end is sooooooo close should be given a copy of Chicken Little and asked if the story reminds them of anything
at the last dc i will ever attend in 09' some elder was called up to do the morning prayer.
i dont recall him being introduced as a co or anything thats why i say elder.. he starts off slowly and 20 seconds in i realize this is his moment of glory, giving a prayer at the dc and he is going to take his sweet time.
i know the closing prayers are like at least 5 or 10 minutes, but this guy is going to kick off the morning with a long rambling diatribe..... so part way in he gets to the "slave" and he starts naming them off one by one.....ya know thanks for splane, pierce, barr, loesch....so on and so on....til he gets through them all.
"Dear Jehovah, thanks for all the good stuff you do for us. I'm not going to list it because you're omniscient, so you know it all anyways. We appreciate the good stuff. Please keep it up. If for some reason bad stuff happens, don't worry, we know it's Satan's fault and not yours. So long, and thanks for all the fish. In Jesus' name. Amen."
That's brilliant brizzzy! For some reason I've got this hilarious image in my mind of the brother in question saying that prayer at break-neck speed, the last bit being yelled a fair distance away from the microphone as he begins his mad dash to the carpark in an attempt to be first out.
