Hello George and welcome to the forum!
Dési
i can't believe how people in the "organization" can be so cold hearted.. .
last october, i got an invitation to a friends wedding where i grew up in portland, oregon.
i now live in san diego, california.
EXMS,
I'm really sorry for what happened to you, even if it's sad to say "it's normal in JW-world.
In Ma 2009, as I was still a very active JW, something similar happened to me and my husband. His disfellowshipped sister got married a non-JW and we couldn't not attend: She was doing everything to go back to the "truth" and he is such a nice guy!!!
2 "very good friends" of us (he is an elder and she is a pioneer) became aware of it and since then, they don't "know" us anymore. It was really difficult for me to understand and accept it, but that's life indeed in JW-world: jw friends are conditional friends!!!
I really don't need such friends...

tonight on the evening of april 18, 2011, observant jews worldwide will celebrate passover seder, a night "different from all other nights".
the watchtower society annually schedules the memorial for jehovah's witnesses on a date that is supposed to coincide with the jewish observance of passover, as it would have been reckoned during second temple times (in particular, in the first century ad during the life of jesus).
this year the memorial was observed last night, the evening of april 17. the two religious observances are thus a day out of synth, at least this year.
Marking.
Thanks Leo.
it wasn't all that bad.
met a few friends who also don't give too much about it and had some great laughs afterwards.
we talked about how we still remember when only about 7000 took from the emblems and now its more than 11000. we also laughed about how it would look like having jesus and his disciples pass around wine and bread on a plate like that.. all in all it was the same procedure as every year.
No, and he doesn't want to read it, even if he sees the "problems". However I don't give up!!

@Mad Sweeney,
I hope so. He thinks he needs something better before he leaves and I want to respect his standpoint just like he does for mine.
I'm confident it'll be easier for me next year.

@TheListener,
Thanks for your kind words. You know what, it's only when you stop attending meetings that you see you were a prisoner. Not that I really leave in fear, but I know some will come and visit me in the coming days and I really don't like it. They were really hoping I would have come yesterday. I'm just glad hubby respects my viewpoint. Hope he wil open his eyes soon.
When he came back home yesterday, he told me: "I think they made a mistake about the date. Full moon is tomorrow!"...

It was the first memorial I did not attend. It felt a bit queer to let hubby go with our girls...felt like crying for a few seconds.
am i the only one who notices a couple of problems with this?.
first of all, passover is on 15 nisan, not 14.. the sheep should prove to be sound, a male, a year old, for you.
you may pick from the young rams or from the goats.
I read Luke 22:19-22 to hubby. He told me Luke is not written chronologically. We then read Mark and Matthew. He started to think and said I should also read John. John is THE reference JW take to prove Judas had left before the bread and wine. But, as WontLeave has pointed out, John doesn't say that. When Judas left it's obvious they had already eaten.
And after the morsel then Satan entered into the latter. Jesus, therefore, said to him: “What you are doing get done more quickly.” 28 However, none of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose he said this to him. 29 Some, in fact, were imagining, since Judas was holding the money box, that Jesus was telling him: “Buy what things we need for the festival,” or that he should give something to the poor. 30 Therefore, after he received the morsel, he went out immediately. And it was night. 31 Hence when he had gone out, Jesus said: “Now the Son of man is glorified, and God is glorified in connection with him.
So my husband couldn't say anything. Anyways, he is going alone with our children to the "reject Jesus party". It will be the first time I won't attend.
...some more seeds...

Thanks for this thread WontLeave and for your detailed message TheLoveDoctor.
I had never thought about that!!!
this is one of the most aggressive watchtowers i think i have ever read.. four study articles on not "following the crowd" not following unrealities(page 13) not following false teachers, meaning apostates of course(p 15).
avoiding false teachers means "refusing to read their literature, watch tv programs that feature them, examine their web sites, or add comments to their blogs.
(para 7, pg 16).
Yeah, they are loosing more and more people and don't know how to stop the trend so they have to be aggressive...
Poor guys
