Excellent points made! I need to get her book. It sounds like a topic similiar to Mistakes Were Made (but not by me) by Carol Tavris/Elliot Aronson.

Happy Memorial Everyone...........ummm...... hooray?
by Mr. Falcon inumm...... many jws i know always state how the memorial observance is the only thing that we "celebrate", but for the life of me, i can't remember our family doing any kind of celebrating other than going to the kingdom hall and passing a plate of crackers and some carlo rossi wine around.
but maybe that was just my family.. has anyone else back in the day remember having any actual festivities?.

The memorial has never been a celebration for our family. Or any of the congregrations I've been in through the years. It's actually like going to a funeral. It always struck me as odd that we are told that the memorial is to celebrate the death of Jesus... yet only a small few would ever partake. I've never seen anyone partake, I've heard of ones that did, but if they did they were sitting in the back room or somewhere inconspicuous.
Anyway, it's a Satanic ritual that they twist into their own "truth". It's a cult after all.

Dumbing down of WT literature can be measured mathematically.
by hamsterbait inevery magazine on the news stand is very carefully aimed at a target market.. .
it has long been known that how information is presented makes a big difference to who will read it.
you will agree that the ny times or scientific american are more erudite than the national enquirer or the toronto star.. .

Haha! I always knew their literature was dumbed down, but now that there is an actual figure attached to it, this is priceless.
Oh and just copy and paste from pdf into word, you don't need a scanner...

The last meeting you ever went to.......
by watersprout ini don't know whether this has ever been asked, so i apologize if i'm repeating.. what did you do at the last meeting you ever attended?
did you stay for the whole thing?
what made you realize that this was your last meeting, or did you not know it would be your last meeting??.

Watersprout, this brought back a recent memory (about 2 months ago) that really was embarassing.
I haven't been to the meetings in a while, and haven't been out in FS in a year, I forgot I left my FS bookbag in the trunk of my car. A trunk where I hardly ever open anymore. But one day I had to pick up a colleague up from the airport. I pull over, hop out, welcome him, open the trunk..... and guess what is sprawled out and covering the ENTIRE trunk??? Watchtowers and Awakes!!!! I almost freaked out. The guy just looked in and there was an awkward silence for about a minute. I just excused the mess of my trunk and some lame attempt to say I haven't been in it for months...
Anyway, nothing tragic, but still quite embarassing. The last meeting I went to was the first Sunday of this past January. It was at least 2 months before that since my last meeting and of course everyone was in love bomb mode. I was very cold towards people and someone said that I seemed very distant. Of course I'm distant! I want to be 100 miles away from this damn building!
Take care Watersprout and I'll pop by more often on Facebook!!

I don't think he what they (WTS) say he is.
Do I believe in an evil spirit out to get me? No. I don't think that we mean much to spirits... it would be like humans trying to go after ants.

Hard to NOT have the last word - let them hang themselves
by Mad Sweeney ini recently had a jw "friend" (the last non-relative one that has any contact with me at all - and it is only electronic) post a typically cultish statement as a comment on my fb page.
there is no good way to respond without going all logical apostate on him.
i know the dubism is idiotic enough on its own to discredit itself and him, but i am still fighting the urge to respond and clearly show how ridiculous the statement was.

I have to bite my tongue a lot on my FB. It came to a point that a couple weeks ago I just deleted anyone that was a friend of a friend that was a JW. I get sick when I read their stupid ass FB status. It's bad enough reading normal peoples updates, let alone cult speak.

Paul, leading authority on Christianity, does NOT quote Jesus!
by Terry inpaul's letters practically invent christianity.. the gospels trickled in after him.. paul never walked with jesus and yet explains him.. never a quote from the master at all.. yet, paul is such a maven.. if jesus couldn't be bothered to actually reveal what he was all about to his apostles with whom he ate, drank, spoke and slept---why this persecutor, saul?.
the apostles heard every word jesus spoke and were willing to die for him.. paul didn't--yet--miraculously explained every detail of the entire history of god's purpose including his messiah.. .
can anybody provide a non-gimmick answer?.

I just started to read "Christianity - The First Three Thousand Years" by Diarmaid MacCulloch. It has some really eye opening details on the history of how christianity started and the influential factors that molded the religion that is today. I'm only 128 pages into it out of a thousand and it's already quite clear to me that the whole religion is a farce.
Paul clearly departs from the teachings of Jesus. Of course, when you look at the authors and the lack of evidence that they in fact wrote their respective books, it makes you pause and really question the authenticity and so called "Holy Spirit" that is said to preserve the Bible through the ages.
It's all one vye for power and control of the masses throughout history.

In other words, the Pacific Plate is active. It's interesting to track the trends near Honshu, Japan prior to and following the big one.
