Science and the supernatural - thoughts and opinions wanted
by freshstart ini definitely support science, i think that the entire field is fascinating.
the things that have been discovered and that will be discovered in the future is mind-boggling.
i do wonder, however, if there is some things that science can't explain.

^ Yep, what NC said. And who wants to have the reputation of being premature? Not this guy.
Best to wait until the evidence is in before labeling unexplained as "supernatural".

Who will remain on Earth????
by wolfman85 in.
i must admit that after carefully examining the nt it seems that christians will have heavenly life.
but my question is, who will remain on earth?.

It is these Nations that at the end of the 1000 years try to storm Jerusalem, its not a final test of Christians like the JWs say, nowhere does it say that. Christians on Earth will live in Jerusalem, maybe with Ezeikiels third temple with its river of water of life, outside will be the failed Christians, unable to get in so they will still be with the nations, they will literally be weeping and gnashing their teeth, not figuaratively.
I sometimes grind my teeth when I sleep. Is that prophetic fulfillment?

EE: And he cant easily make himself heard? You have to question if he speaks or if you realy heard him? What a pathetic god.
Woah, take it easy, EE. He's just shy, that's all. And now you're bullying him. Let's cut him some slack, eh? Maybe not all gods have Thor's self-esteem.
That doesn't mean other gods are any less real.

Has Anyone Seen "Prometheus"?
by Low-Key Lysmith ini loved it!
but then, it went right along with my own personal beliefs concerning mankind's origins, so i'm a little biased.. wondering what a religious person's thoughts would be?.

Man, I think expectations account for a lot here. I went into this one expecting more depth, since it [ambitiously] set out to tackle man's origins.
Terry, for my tastes (which are just that, neither right nor wrong), any philosophical morsels were both cheapened and eclipsed by awkward dialogue, cliches, and conduct unbefitting real scientists.
- Snake-like alien creature flares it's hood in what any normal biologist would assume is threatened or threatening manner... but our biologist laughs like an idiot and tries to tickle it. Alien subsequently kills him. What did he expect? Like the two ladies running from the giant rolling space bracelet at the end, I have to assume this scene was scripted by the same writer who makes heroes casually stroll away from explosions in action flicks... because that's what they're supposed to do.
- Geologist has awesome hovering toys to map out tunnels and track life forms. I was still into the movie at that point. Despite this awesome tech, he gets lost. Why did he get lost? Well everyone can't die at the same time.
Had I gone to see an alien-wreaks-havok-on-a-spaceship movie, I think I might've been less picky. OR if I'd had a few beers, maybe I'd have been less uptight about it all. Instead, I left the theater frustrated, arguing with my buddy, "No way she could've jumped that gap and walked away with her bowels intact."

Welllll, my buddy really liked it. I thought it had good potential, what with the origins of the human species written into the plotline, but I got hung up on a coupla details that distracted me and brought it down the rest of the show.
SPOILER ALERT. Kinda.
First, I know it's sci-fi... it's not supposed to be realistic. But I mean, c'mon, they could've written SOMETHING in the screenplay to explain how a chick could basically compete in a triathalon after undergoing a self-imposed C-Section and being tacked back together. I would even accept her disappearing into the hi-tech healing pod and coming back out with a fresh scar... if we hadn't seen all that happened. (Sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from magic.) But no. She's sliced across the abdomen, spread open, alien removed, staples and we're done. Now get back out there and run the bleachers, ya pansy.
Everytime she'd leap over a ravine or run 100 yards, I expected to see a trail of intestines. Do you know how many times I was disappointed?
Also, this movie reminded me that when I see a giant wheel rolling towards me, I will strafe left or right a few feet instead of running directly down its path.

I am not sure if you have faith in God or not, but nevertheless. There are many other ways to tell his presence in someone, such as love , joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. If you are manifesting these things, then you are feeling God in Your life.
This is exactly the kind of vague, unfalsifiable, untestable, and utterly worthless tripe that drives me to satirize what it is like to "feel god" in one's life.
Most of us escaped from a high control publishing company that touts "love amongst yourselves" and "global preaching work" as evidence that it is the only religion approved by the Lord God of the Universe.
Once you realized that was baloney, it seems you would shy away from such nebulous kinds of evidence in the future.

Larry: When they do, it is my hope that the thread they choose to read does not have a comment like: "God touched my penis"
Then again, I believe there's a certain mindset that will change or won't change regardless of the members' nasty comments.... Just as Bill Maher's irreverent comments may have helped me question my own blind acceptance of the Bible, though it stung at first.

Indian Larry, that's a valid observation and there have been times I felt the exact same way about specific threads/posts JWN. In fact, you could probably find a post similar to yours above, earlier in my posting history. But, alas, as Obi-Wan would say, "He's more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil." That's me. 'cept the machine part....
I think my growing cynicism comes from one too many attempts to use reason and logic with JW family, to no avail. Nothing. On top of that, I'm subjected to the great Southern Baptist majority in my community. (I live on the buckle of the Bible Belt.) Pressure builds... sometimes this site serves as a release for my frustration.
Here, I have the chance to say what I think and feel with all the irreverence I believe a subject deserves. That's immature and selfish of me, I know. But years of reading and hearing all the anecdotal testimony about what it "feels like" to receive holy spirit or what god sounds like..... I see my experience as no less plausible than anyone else's. And so sarcasm/mockery, while probably not winning any believer points, is how I rebut assertions that aren't based on logic or evidence in the first place.
Perhaps if I spewed my distaste for theism in members-only threads, I could have my cake and eat it, too. I can't make any guarantees, but I'll try to consider that in the future... I also realize I should've let doinmypart get some feedback from believers before I jumped in with my satire. Apologies to DMP.
Also, I appreciate the polite manner in which you brought this to my attention, Larry.
