the wt society has their own definition of what's considered " lawless ".
anything that's considered a disfellowshipping offense in the jehovah's witnesses is now considered " lawless ".

Yes, isn't it ironic that on one hand, the Organization has condemned the USA for being 'part of Satan's world', or 'the King of the South', etc. etc. and view that it is deserving of complete destruction (except for those nice big houses that surviving Witlesses will get to pick and choose from right after Armageddon!), yet at the same time you hide like a bunch of cowards behind the very Constitution you love to bash screaming about 'Freedom of Religion'---the very freedom that the Organization denies to it's own members. Rutherfraud did the exact same thing a hundred years ago: Vilified and denounced the USA in the form of his books and pamphlets, yet had no problem whatsoever is crying about 'Freedom of Religion' for his cult whenever they found themselves in hot water.

Why would abandoning 1914 mean they are not chosen by God?

can someone explain to me how that logically follows?.
couldn't they just say, "we have received new light on that, have learned that we cannot give a specific date (like how they abandoned 1935), but look, we adhere to the bible more strictly than anyone else, we strive to 'keep the cong clean' more than any other group, etc., so therefore, we must be chosen by god as his only org.

If 1914 was a 'stand-alone' doctrine, they could easily abandon it in favour of 1934 or 1935 being the 'beginning of The End' and most Witnesses would just sit there with a glazed look on their face and never doubt anything they said.
However, because they were stupid enough to claim that 3 1/2 years (or, 1260 days) after Jesus returned, that they were chosen as the 'faithful and discreet slave', then they cannot abandon 1914 without screwing themselves or their position as God's Sole Channel. They really don't give a rat's ass about Jesus and I doubt many of the Goobering Body members even believe this doctrine anymore. However, the party line cannot be challenged: without 1914, there's no appointment and thus they lose all of their control over millions of lives. And that is something they want to avoid at all costs.

This is very true. Men do not have the monopoly on being jerks---women can and are just as bad. I know women who were horrible mothers to their sons---yelled at them, belittled them and smacked them around alot. Guess what? Their sons grew up and ended up with women who treat them like garbage. Why do these men stick with these kinds of women? I assume it's for the same reason women stay with abusive men---it feels familar to them.

Is it acceptable for JWs to put flowers on a loved one's grave?

she died 9 years ago feb 19. i haven't been out there since the funeral.
i can't remember where the cemetary is, and i will have to ask my jw relatives (who don't know my status) where she is buried.

As a child I was told putting flowers on the grave was worshipping the dead and that Jehovah doesn't approve of that.
Holy crap, really? Not around here. My older sister died in the early 1970s and I remember going up to the graveyard all the time with my dad to put flowers on her grave.....no one at the KH ever said anything negative about it........ -

this [unnamed] brother related a story told to him by another [unnamed] elder who knew an [unnamed] circuit serpent who was "really chummy with one of the [unnamed] executives at the royal ontario museum".

by Mary inyesterday, i went out for lunch with my parents when my mother made mention of something she had read in the newspaper about some new discovery of species that went extinct millions of years ago.
she asked my father what method is used to determine the age of something, because of course, this flies directly in face of the biblical account of life on this planet being only a few thousand years old.. anyway, my father related a story that some brother he ran into recently at the assembly told him.
this [unnamed] brother related a story told to him by another [unnamed] elder who knew an [unnamed] circuit serpent who was "really chummy with one of the [unnamed] executives at the royal ontario museum".
