Issuing a challenge to Jehvoah's Witnesses everywhere
by Terry innow is the time (to quote an old kingdom song)..... to challenge jw's everywhere who are pointing to the "difficult times hard to deal with" in the news around the world.
and declaring armageddon is absolutely, positively nigh.. for one thing, they always point to something somewhere, don't they?.
and whatever it is---absolutely means time is short.. but, it is the usual nonsense, bullshit, poppycock over-statement, exaggeration and hype.. call them on it this time!.

Nicolaus said: Newfoundland is stunningly beautiful and is an outdoor sportsman's paradise. It also has the friendliest people in the country - ask all those American folks who landed there on 9/11 when their planes were rerouted
You're absolutely right Nicolaus. There was a book written about it which I read a couple of years ago. Truly heart-warming, as it tells of how the people of Gander, Newfoundland really stood up to the plate and showed the best in humanity during one of the darkest moments in recent memory. The book is called The Day the World Came to Town, and I would highly recommend it. As one person who read the book said, "The events described in this book will make you either proud to be a Canadian or regretful that you aren't."

No, I really can't stand watching these idiotic people like Rosie or the Duchess of York or "Octomom" who always have a mouthful of excuses for their bad behaviour. As far as I'm concerned, by giving these narcissitic people a platform and paying them for it, it just encourages their bizarre behavior. Who's Oprah going to offer a spot to next---Charlie Sheen?
I never really liked Rosie O'Donnell anyway, but when she began her insane rant on Donald Trump, I just truly thought it was the final piece of evidence to show what a class-less idiot she is. I don't think she was expecting the backlash he dolled out to her but rather than back down, she just went on an on and on and ended up crashing her career. I'm no fan of The Donald either, but I'd watch him over her at least.

The Wine Thread.
by Open mind inif you enjoy a glass of vino now and then, tell us what you like and how your tastes got to where they are now.
wine snobs & non-snobs alike welcome!.
my intro to the world of wine was my jw parents buying a huge screw-top bottle of paul masson or gallo red or white, having half a glass, and sticking it out on the back porch thinking that wine stayed good like that.

I just discovered a wine I love: Rodney Strong's 2007 Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. I see in California where it's made, it's $12.99/bottle. I just paid $22.95 for a bottle of it......one of the down sides to living in Canada. I used to love Robert Mondavi's Cabernet Sauvignon and I still like it, but I also have discovered I like the wines from Chile and Argentina too......

Simon said: BTW: I can't belivee my wife spelt Tim Hortons wrong!! OMG, is she trying to get us deported?!?!
I've already reported the both of you to Immigration Canada Simon......spelling Tim Hortons wrong is well........the worst thing you can do up here. Expect your deportation papers within a week. I'll let everyone in on a secret: I found a place with coffee I like even more than Timmy's: If you're anywhere near a Second Cup coffee chain, try their Paradiso Medium....OMG is it ever good. I stop by one on the way to work every morning. They don't have donuts and their muffins are horrible, but man oh man is their coffee good!!!
Satanus said: I left la belle provence cuz i got tired of french and the attitude.
Proof enough that Satanus is a Canuck, as no one outside of Canada knows that we refer to Quebec as "la belle provence".
teel said: I don't really have a problem with it, but my soon-to-be wife literally hates winter - yet Canada was her idea
In that case, I'd strongly recommend that you move out to The Island (Vancouver Island), as they have the most temperate temperatures in Canada.....
It's even funnier when visitors think they can drive from Toronto to Vancouver in under a day.
I had a friend in California who told me once he was going to "drive up to Canada" to visit me. I said "um, do you have any idea where I am?" He said "Canada!" I said, "ya, but do you know where Toronto is?" "No". "Do you know where Ontario is?" "No." "Do you know where Vancouver is?" "Yes!" I said "Okay, drive north to Vancouver, turn right and drive another 3,000 miles and you should be able to find me." LOL!!

There's a weird cultural phenomena called "Tim Horton's". It's a coffee and doughnut shop. Nothing special, except that nearly every Canadian is addicted!
That's because it's much better than that crappy place called Dunkin' Donuts which serves horrible coffee and disgusting donuts that I wouldn't feed my dog. Yep, Canadians love our Timmie's and our maple syrup.
am I out of my mind to move there, or is it the best decision of my life? - of course the answer is somewhere in between, but feel free to be extreme if you want to
I'm Canadian.....pros and cons to living here. Biggest Pro: Universal Health Care. Biggest Con: I hope you like winter. Compared to our American cousins south of the border, Canadians are pretty laid back about politics and the only time we actually ever watch politicans debate is when it looks like one of them is (literally) going to be the crap out of the other guy in the House of Commons. Other than that, don't expect too much debating over which-party-is-better-to-vote-for, because we know that each suck and what's the point in dwelling on it?
We don't carry firearms on our person as most of us would be afraid that it might go off and we'd shoot ourselves in the dinger and there's no fun in that.
Our beer is the best! It's also ridiculously expensive which pisses everyone off so we try to smuggle the odd bottle back from Buffalo when we go over there shopping. We pay A LOT in taxes which also pisses everyone off, but that's never going to go away so there's no point in dwelling on it. Might as well kick back with a bucket of KFC and a couple of brewskies.
You can go to Europe and no one wants to kill you because they know less than nothing about Canadians and are hard put to even find where Canada is on the map.
Our TV programs are an embarassing joke, so yep, we depend solely on Hollywood to provide us with Entertainment, just like everyone else in the free world. Our TV satellite provided through places like Bell and Rogers is total joke and not worth the $$$ you have to fork out, but right now, it's virtually impossible to get the American satellite system, because Bell and Rogers don't like the competition.
All in all though, Canada's a pretty decent place to live, so sure----come on up!

Terry said: Neither Jesus nor his apostles walked around carrying bookbags like JW's do today. People did not think of books as portable..THEY WEREN'T.
Pah......sure they did Terry. Didn't you see the picture in one of the latest Craptower study articles showing that they did?! This is actual footage:
For some reason, I don't find this subject very shocking as I've known for years that many of the books of the NT were not written by said book. What is shocking is that I knew this even when I was a Witness as another Witness (an elder actually) told me. At first I was very surprised and I said "you mean Matthew wasn't written by Matthew and John wasn't written by the Apostle John?" He said they most likely were not but he still believed them to be 'inspired'. Very strange...........

FDS says - "No need to check our work. Besides, it will only make God angry."
by Crisis of Conscience inthough i no longer believe the fds is indeed appointed by god, i guess because of what has been taught to me all these years through the wtbts, i still make an effort to try and look at both sides.
and then i come across this number below, which is how i arrived at my title for this thread.

Where the hell is djeggnog when when you need it?
He's still licking his wounds from the ass-whuppin' we gave him on Jgnat's thread about blood. In addition to what everyone else has said, here's a couple more examples that show how badly the Society talks out both sides of their mouths. When you compare the original quote that says:
"...But nowhere do we read that those brothers first, in a skeptical frame of mind, checked the Scriptures to make certain that those letters had Scriptural backing, that the writers really knew what they were talking about."
How do they explain the following information from their own literature:
"Now what should a person do who has inherited by birth one of Christendom's defiled religions? If he takes the attitude that it is wrong to change and that since he was born in that particular religion he should die in it, how is he any different from the members of Judaism who refused to listen to Christ and change to undefiled worship of God? He can no more take for granted that his religion is the true one, the one approved by God, than could those people. He must prove it for himself by studying the Scriptures."------w59 5/15 p. 307 Is It Wrong to Change Religions?
"...As you examine God's Word, you will learn that your love for God will be put to the test. This test may come from close friends or relatives, perhaps members of your own household, who will not approve of your examining the Scriptures."----w69 3/15 p. 167 Why It Is Wise to Examine Your Religion
"...Using the Scriptures to test doctrines is the course commended in the Bible. When Paul and Silas went to Beroea, they preached to the Jews. How did these Jews respond to this Christian preaching? They "were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with the greatest readiness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so." (Acts 17:11) The Beroeans were not being fanatical or unreasonable. They did not rely on the word of man alone. The Beroeans made sure of all things. How? By "carefully examining the Scriptures." This is the way Christians should test religious beliefs."-----w60 4/15 p. 229 Does the Bible Teach What You Believe?
