i'm still a semi member of the kh but not at all active and have major doubts when i started reading all kinds of opposing literature.

talked to elders about this and also my father but my father but he still believes it's the "truth".

anyways jist of this story is i gave my father a copy of "crisis of conscience".

What is really saddening though, is that about 3 weeks after he left one of the ministerial servants killed himself. I'm sure he had other problems, but the point is that Cunningham's incessant browbeating did NOTHING to assist or build up a distressed soul who had bouts of depression.

This is a common theme amongst high control groups like JWs and it's very sad. Here's some poor guy suffering from depression already and then some asswipe who doesn't even work himself comes along and makes you feel a thousand times worse and not "worthy" enough to be in the 'truth' and they end up killing themselves. Maybe they need to replace the signs they have up near the platform with:

what toys did you all ways want but couldnt have because you were a jw!

i was lucky not to be born into the jw's, so i had pretty much every toy i wanted .... actionman (g.i joe) with all the guns, tanks wonderful 2nd world war uniforms, toy soldiers cavalry, indians, cowboys, knights,castles and forts.. six million dollar man, lone ranger and tonto, toy cars matchbox captin scarlett, thunder birds, loads of guns to run around playing war.. great days.

(of course my sisters had dolls and prams, barbies cindys, play make up).

i know having spoken to jws born into it certain toys were of limits for some kids.. a good friend told me how he loved action man and played with them constantly, until one day he came home and saw them all by the door in a. card board box.. when he asked his mum what she was doing.. she told him "do you really think jehovah wants you to play war, you can keep one of them but he cant have any guns and fight people".

Ha ha.....actually, my parents were not fanatical Dubs by any stretch of the imagination. When we were kids, Dad bought us the I Dream of Jeannie gameboard which we loved.

He said he was out in service with the circuit overseer this week and that the CO is going to be giving a talk Sunday morning with "some" of the topic on Ray Franz.

I guarantee there will be nothing positive said about Ray in the CO's talk and he will be referred to as being part of the "evil slave class", "demonized", "possessed", "wanting a following of his own", etc. etc. First of all, I doubt he'll even name Ray, because there are alot of young Dubs who were born long after CoC and they are probably not even aware of what happened at Crooklyn in 1980-81. All someone has to do is Google his name and presto, the Borg's embarassing past is laid out for all to read.

Second, you do realize that if your father told the CO that you gave him a copy of Crisis of Conscience, you've left yourself wide open to the possibility of getting disfellowshipped right?

Most Overblown Examples Used at Assemblies

at a recent assembly, there was a talk highlighting the dangers of higher education.

the brother used an example of a young girl who went to university, began going to bars, and ended up getting drugged and gang raped - as if this happens to every young jw who chooses to get higher education.. .

what ridiculous examples have you heard used at meetings or assemblies?.

Oh yes, I love the examples of rebellious (nameless) youths, who go to university because they're materialistic and 'puffed up' with pride. Before their bags are even unpacked, these yunguns are smoking, doing drugs, and fornicating with anything that moves. If they're using a girl as the example, she inevitably ends up pregnant and if it's a guy, he inevitably gets a girl pregnant and/or gets AIDS and their lives are ruined. Why? "...Because they went against the faithful and discreet slave."

They then hold up some poor sap who began to pio-sneer right out of high school and how glorious his life is. Of course, they wouldn't dare interview someone who's gone to university, who now has a successful job anymore than they would interview those who heeded the advice from the May 22, 1969 Awake! magazine that "....If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things" and who will end up dying without a pot to piss in, or a window to fire it out of.

What I always found so annoying was the way it was always presented. The drones being interviewed sounded ridiculous and over-rehearsed as did the questions being asked. They couldn't make it realistic at all and the entire thing was about as believable as an episode from Saturday Night Live.......at least that was entertaining.

No memorable talks at assemblies? Sorry to sound cynical!

i used to give public talks from the rigid outlines from borg hq.

i remember altering some talks from 45mins to 30mins.. this was great because before we were given 30min scripts i could take licence and pick and choose which bits i felt were more christian.

before my exit i gave resisting the spirit of the world 30min with my own spin on true christian love.

You said it. Unfortunately I think part of the problem is that the minute anyone suggests that a far tighter reign be put on Wall Street and other gi-normous corportations that were responsible for the financial meltdown so that this doesn't happen again, many Americans start getting antzy and are afraid that more government regulations will result in them slip-sliding down the road to Communism, which is crazy.

I was shocked when I found out that the banks in the States are not regulated by the government and that for all the trillions the banks lent out in mortgages, that the banks only have to have 5% in something tangible, (like gold) to back it up. In Canada, the banks are very heavily regulated, and rightfully so. My sister's worked at the Royal Bank for 33 years and she told me straight out that there's no way in hell anyone on Unemployment or Welfare would ever get a mortgage through one of the banks because of the way they're regulated up here. The banks have to have 55% of the monies they lend out in mortgages, backed up by tangible assets----not just something written on a piece of paper that isn't worth squat. I know that was only part of the problem, but it helped make a mess of the current situation.

And that right there demonstrates your bad attitude and lack of appreciation for all that de Slaaaaaabe Class did for you, and led you down the path to the dark side...........Just think of how un-happified it must have made Jehover's heart when you squeezed out 15 minutes of spiritual fodder food from those holy outlines! Why---you're not different than whats-his-name that reached out and touched the Ark of the Covenant to keep it from rolling off the cart!! Hang your head in shame!!!

The only talk I really remember that I enjoyed at the ASSembly, was one that I was in, I kid you not. One of the sisters did the talk up and the setting was that we were already in the Noo System of things and my sister and I were supposed to have been born after the Big A and we were asking her questions about the Last Daze. Miraculously, all the NWTs seems to have survived and we used those during the talk. LOL!! While the talk was of course, based on pure bullshit, I have to admit that it was done far more effectively than the average talk.

What precisely would you have the prosecutor ask them since the judge upheld the "clergy/penitent" motion thereby restricting the questions he/she can ask?

This developed as the prosecution decided yesterday not to call to the witness stand three ministers or elders of the Tinian congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in the trial of Geoffrey K. Cabrera

Why in gods name would the prosecution decided "not to call to the witness stand", these three assholes elders?! This crap about religious "confidentiality" should not apply when a crime has been committed.

Utterly disgusting. If that was my kid who was molested by a fellow Witness, I assure you that about six months down the road that person would go missing and never be found.

Another case of the Borg indeed being a 'pedophile's paradise'.
