  Hi Tammy;

  I'm so sorry to hear your plight. The reason your mother has apparently chosen the Borg over you, is because the JWs twist the scriptures and they always use the one where Jesus said "anyone who puts father or mother or brother or sister ahead of me is not worthy of me."

  In other words, they have your mother convinced that if she associates with you, and puts you ahead of THEM, then she'll die at the Big A.

  I'm sure you mother does still loves you and probably thinks about you every day. Perhaps you could suggest a relationship whereby you don't talk about the religion, see if she's receptive to that at all.

  Although they're probably shedding crocodile tears, at least they publically acknowledge that they've made a huge mistake. Think the Governing Body, God's "sole representation on earth" will ever do a letter like this? Not bloody likely.

  I see Cardinal Law had to appear in court to testify about knowingly allowing pedophiles to remain as priests with full access to children. I can only assume he was subpeoned as I can't imagine he would have gone willingly.

  Does anyone know if there are any current lawsuits against the Society for knowingly allowing pedophiles to remain in the congregation, even in positions of authority? I think the best thing that could happen now would be if the Governing Body members either some or all of them, or even that moron J.R. Brown, would be forced to testify in open court, and then have their asses sued.

  Any collectible bottle experts here?

  i think i've mentioned before that i collect miniature liquor bottles.

  i've only been collecting for a couple of years, but have found a few gems.

  one is a miniature hedges & butler vat 250scotch full and sealed with an illinois tax stamp dated 1936. the other is a haig & haig blended scots whisky in the "pinch" ("dimple" i think the brits call it) style bottle with a twist-wire top.

  one of the watchtower mantras when i became a jw was that the churches of christendom, aka part of babylon the great, were drying up according to revelation ... and that just a few little old men and ladies were attending her sunday service ... whereas the jw religion was supposed to be the fastest growing religion deep in the time of the end ... .

  here, now for 2001are the statistics, as published by the national council of churches ... so we can see how, 30 years later, christendom (babylon baby) compares to the most holy and pure jehovah witnesses ... .

  So basically, all those billions of hours that the JWs have spent out in Service have gotten them nowhere.......Geeze, how DID all these other religions get so many members when none of them had to spend every freakin' Saturday preaching to everyone else???

  Bright side of a BAD day

  .

  it started out having a bad day.... no babysitter had to miss work , friend came over so i went to get a haircut, she followed me there and took care of michael, on the way home, on the freeway, i was on the the third lane to the left and the car engine shuts off and i had to get three lanes over to the right, in major traffic, i barley made and the car dies.. i started to panick cause it's dark and i have michael and i'm on a freeway.... so i get michael and start walking and praying, and this man pulled over and i started to get even more nervous but i accepted the ride, he took me to a gas station and well his truck was really high , like three in a half feet, well i had forgotten about that so when i steped out of his truck i fell with michael in my arms he started screaming and i started to ball my head off.. okay here's my point like 3 people there helped me, the gas station let me use there phone and gave me something to drink, a couple wouldn't leave until they knew i was taken care of offered me money for a cab or tow truck, they waited like 15 minutes.. i thought of you all, who really didn't know me, but were there for me when i needed it the most, there are some really great people out there, and it doesn't matter what religion you belong to.

  Glad there were those that helped you out.......

  I'd like to make a couple of suggestions that could really help you in the future:

  Join the AAA and get a cell phone if you don't have one. That way, once you're off to the side of the road, you can call them, tell them where you are and they'll come help you.

  I've belonged to the CAA for 10 years. Two years ago as I was going to work (down country roads where the houses can be a mile in between and very little traffic), my car slid off the road during a snow storm. I picked up my cell, called the CAA and they were there within 15 minutes.

  is there anything that could make you go back?.

  what do you think, is there any change of belief or change of circumstance that could make you return to the jw fold?.

  i cant see anything that could make me go back,but i was thinking mabye some of you religious types would go back if they changed some doctrinal things,or if they stopped banning blood.. how about if a family member was dying and hoped to see you in paradise would you go back for a while just to make them feel happy?

  Lets see: If they:

  Changed their policies on child molestation;

  Dropped the 1914, 1918, 1919 bullshit;

  Let us celebrate birthdays, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, etc.;

  Didn't make kids stand outside in the hallway for "opening exercises", thus ensuring a life time being made to feel like an asshole;

  Didn't make you go knocking on strangers doors telling them they're going to die if they don't become a Dub;

  Didn't make you go to 5 freaking meetings a week;

  Let women actually have a say in the way things were run;

  Re-instated everyone who appeared on Dateline and apologized to them;

  Re-instated Ray Franz and that whole group that got screwed in the early 1980s;

  Let you buy lottery tickets if you wanted;

  Encouraged young ones to get a good education;

  Encouraged you to think and question things;

  Elected elders that had at least the IQ of Forrest Gump;

  Let everyone partake of the emblems at the Memorial;

  Sure, I'd go back........................

  even though we were all raised with the firm doctrine that absolutely nothing happens to you after death, (except for those baptized before 1935 of course), does anyone here think that maybe something does happen after we die?

  i've seen some programs about people that have reported having near death experiences.

  while this doesn't offer proof, i find it very strange that one individual, during her nde, repeated a conversation she heard on an entirely different floor in the hospital while she was clinically dead.

  Wow! It seems that the majority here do believe that something happens at death - quite the opposite as to what we were taught as Dubs. I always remember brothers on the platform trying to explain away scriptures like the ones mentioned here that support the idea of life after death, as either "symbolic" or "it applies only to the annointed".

  Virtually every religion on earth believes in a life after death. JWs and other Adventist religions are about the only ones that don't. Perhaps that's one reason why so many Dubs lead a double life: they figure there's nothing after death, so they got nothing to lose.

  Well, I guess we'll all find out in time.......thanks for your comments.

I've seen some programs about people that have reported having Near Death Experiences. While this doesn't offer proof, I find it very strange that one individual, during her NDE, repeated a conversation she heard on an entirely different floor in the hospital while she was clinically dead. If this is simply a hallucination or the brain "breaking down", as some have said, then how on earth could you possibly hear something on a different floor?

  I know one brother about 7 years ago, told me (in private) that he had had an NDE after a bad car crash. He said he looked down and saw his body in the car, he saw the ambulance coming, and even described what they were wearing. Naturally, he never ever told the elders, for fear he'd be DF'd for being "possessed by Satan", but it always stuck with me.

  There also seems to be some scriptures that would support the notion that that something happens at death, most notably 2 Corinthians chapter 15 where one vs. says "if there is a physical body, there is a spiritual body". Then of course, we have the promise Jesus gave to the evildoer, the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, the raising of Samuel through the witch of Endor, the stoning of Stephen and many many other examples.
