ok. i feel like i'm the only one on this discussion board who hasn't met at least one member.
so i figured it was time to open my door and invite ya'll in for some southern hospitality.. i live in horn lake, ms which is about 35-40 minutes from memphis (depending on traffic).
so you can use that to gauge how far you are from me.

i am waiting for any jehovah's witness to offer support in scripture of these four articles of faith: .
(1) the faithful and discreet slave is a class of people, .
(2) that the holy spirit directs organizations in addition to individuals, .
Hello again Shadow
Did you like my Service Meeting introduction for you? I hope it was not offensive.
That is why I believe it is essential to determine whether JW’s could be a group that God is gathering together. The scriptures do clearly indicate a dichotomy in the world between those following Christ and those who don’t. So who might fit the bill?
I appreciate that thought. I feel sorry when I think of how Jesus might have felt to prompt his comment:
"when the Son of man arrives, will he really find the faith on the earth?" Luke 18:8
SOME ONE will fit the bill. I think he will or has 'found the faith' here. As your question states, "who might fit the bill" , not what ORGANIZATION. All the scripture citations you gave apply well to individuals. There is no hint in their context that they are actually predicting an organization. Even if God gathers these individuals into a "group" it would be called a congregation. There is nothing to hint that a "class" of men would rule over these individuals and only this class would be led by holy spirit.
Regardless, we are still looking for scriptural support, not for a people who would respond to the message of Jesus, but to specific Authority being give to a Class who are exclusively Spirit directed to dictate even the Conscience of Lessor Christians (other sheep). This is a tough one, but can you address it specifically? I hope we are not overwhelming you.
Any other JW lurkers? Oldsoul is honestly asking for his faith to be re-affirmed. Perhaps some Bethelites online who can help?
Steve
so, here i am, reeling from the events of the recent weeks...and then comes a blessed respite.
one of the "perks" of being on the janitorial crew was that, every summer, tradition sent us to mountain farm for a couple of weeks, to pick strawberries..
ahhhhhh!!
Craig,
I just caught up on all 6. This is very good. Bringing back a lot of memories. You reminded me of the many times I got called into Russel Mock's office to be reminded I hadn't shaved, and questioned about how I missed my turn at the barber. It must have been an unconscious display of rebelion or inner protest to our disallusionment. So I would clean up for a few months and they would promote me, only to be regreted by admin later.
As I read about your 'shock' I felt sorry for you. After years of looking forward to going to Bethel, in just months reality hits so hard.
Looking forward to the next one.

Welcome to the JWD Service Meeting.
Lets first stand and sing a song together to open our Service Meeting
Song number 225 - - - "Thank You Jesus for Our UNited Nations Library Card"
(Sung with confidence and sincerity)
Once again we welcome all to the Service Meeting. We have an interesting program scheduled by the Faithful Slave for tonight.
First we will have the announcements.
After the announcements we are going to hear from brother Shadow as he discusses the subject of
"Scriptural Support for the Authority of the Governing Body"
This will be a 2 minute program including 115 seconds for questions and answers.
After Brother Shadows part the rest of the program will be cancelled due to lack of interest
Now lets give our undivided attention to Brother Shadow.
(chairman exits platform)
thanks to lilycurly, i don't think i will be able to even nominally remain a witness for much longer.
the whole "fading" thing goes against the grain anyway.. i arrived here, as my first venture into ex-jw land, as a lurker.
within a few hours, i spotted two people i knew whoto my surprisehad not yet become ex-ex-jws but were still posting here.
Awh OldSoul,
Another good one. What you say about moving on is so true. This is a place to heal.
There is emotional, mental, and (forgive me tetrapod.sapien and Terry) spiritual healing going on here that isn't really addressed on other forums.
Once we have recovered here, and that happens to folks who walked away from the WT 10-15 (like Daystar) years ago, then we are ready to move on. Some grow spiritually and emotionally beyond the WT and failed to realize they have changed, for the better, but changed. They seem to think the JWD board has changed and no longer suites their needs. Then they try to change the board. As you say, they just need to move on to a real life, or another board. Both are out there.
Wonderlustguy,
You make a good point:
I used to think the newbies needed me, but that's not true and it gives ME too much credit. They need us, they need some of us to stay after we could go, if only to offer them a hand up out of the hell they are living in.
That's why I keep coming back. Like Ozzie, its time to GIVE for us old turnips. What amazes me is I will see a newbie post something JW-ish and the urge hits to get a protective post in quick before someone disses them. But before I even finish reading the original post half a dozen others have commented reassuringly to the newbie, welcoming them and making them feel at home. And who are these astute posters? Many have only been here since JUNE or JULY! What arogance on the part of an oldie to think for a moment that I'm vital here. I can still contribute something, but not even as much as the newer ones who can better relate to the newbies.
Ozzie,
Why don't you and I start a project of contributing the unique sort of thing that only a few others can, our wealth of experiences on the elder body and at Bethel? What do you think? Maybe some of the other ex-overlords ex-elders will join in.
Steve

Mormon,
This sounds unlikey. Can you at least give us a name?

Oldsoul,
Regarding resolving the question of the scriptural validity of the GB's authority:
Why do I care? Because I have family who are Witnesses, I have friends who are Witnesses, and I cannot figure out why I should be expelled for contradicting a teaching that is of human origin. If it is founded on Scripture, I am wrong and will do my very best to make right what damage I may have done to the faith of others. It is as simple as that. If it is not founded on Scripture, then the GB is wrong and I expect the same of them. Is that unreasonable?
Not only fair, it is a good stand for every JW to take. Few will seriously address these questions for fear of loosing friends and family as per GB rules.
Since these are "foundational doctrines" why are they not addressed in What Does the Bible Really Teach? The term "Faithful and Discreet Slave" does not appear in the publication, there is no mention that this "Slave" is a class of people; in fact, there is no mention of any requirement to submit to any authority except Jehovah and Jesus. There is also no mention that there is a corporate filter between the student and God when it comes to acquiring clear understanding of Scripture.
Damn. Since the teaching "the SPIRIT DIRECTED Faithful Slave CLASS dispenses NEW LIGHT to the inferior OTHER SHEEP" is not even mentioned in their publication What Does the Bible Really Teach? . . . what are my Witness friends and relative to conclude . . . . the Bible does NOT 'really teach' this?
Oldsoul, I think by the lack of scriptural response to this question you may have hit the WT's sandy foundation.
Shadow, Good to see you back. You are a brave JW for being willing to tackle this. Much more stimulating than your average Service Meeting.

watchtower history in haiku , by leolaia .
barbour and russell.
what a team, they alone knew.
Leolaia,
I'm no critic of poetry or verse. But I can say your account of the history and imaginative way of conveying it was stunning.

having grown up in a jehovah's witness family, { quotes } came to the realization that what he was being raised to believe, wasn't standing up to scrutiny.
subsequently, he put together a fantastic website, simply showing primary resource material (stuff jw's say about themselves and their beliefs) then simply highlighted various points of interest... things to make you say "hmmm!
Quotes,
For some reason I get the end chopped off, even of the filed downloaded directly from the Radio station.
Hope you, or someone, has a complete version you can send me for my files.

do any of you remember old you know?
Hey,
I watched his video at http://www.jehovah-has-become-king.com/word-from-author.html and I was impressed. Not at all the disheveled nerd that I expected. Even does a good job in front of the camera. I am certain he REALLY BELIEVES what he is saying. Got to give him credit for his sincerity.
