  in the congregation i grew up in, there was a sister about ten years older than me.

  her first name was joanne.. more than once, when our family traveled, joanne came along as a 'nanny' of sorts--so that my parents could enjoy each others company without their children present once in a while.

  Understood and agree.

  Also agree you taught your children a valuable principle about not touching what does not belong to them.

  Question remains, since it is not a merchandizing law not to touch merchandize unless we plan to buy, was Lisa wrong in allowing her child to hold the bear?

  If it is only a principle and not a law violated, why did the retail clerk make such a harsh judgment and her subsequent demand?

  I think we agree on the important issues as well as the minor ones too. I may have misunderstood that you were condemning Lisa for allowing her child to hold the bear.

  They Stole My Sign!

  i have a sign in my front yard on a main highway.

  it reads, "no child molesters, www.silentlambs.org".. last night evidently, someone took the sign.

  now i live one mile from the kingdom hall, do you think it could have been jw's?

  You ask "Why do you ass-u-me that it was one of Jehovah's Witnesses"?
  In view of the gossip, slander, and negative attacks perpetrated by the witnesses it is a logical ass-ump-tion. Maybe no evidence that he could go to court, but definitely a logical assumption.

  Come on man! This isn't an issue of respect for retail merchandise or little kids dirty hands. It was about human interaction. "Put it back", especially if said in the hearing of the child, was harsh, apparently a display of anamosity toward the mother at the cost of a child. No retail clerk should do this.

  As Lisa says: "Some people don't like you and they don't have to have a reason!". That's all.

  You know I'm not a newbie, but I'll comment anyway.

  You said "I don't give a crap who likes me or not" was a lesson that took me too long to learn. For decades, even as a brother with responsibilities, I was too easily upset when fellow elders who disapproved of my decisions (sent my wife to college, helped in home births, home schooled our kids). I finally adopted a philosophy, "I don't give a damn".

  A few years ago my daughter got a navel ring and gossip went all over the circuit and district, even to near by states, though no one had really seen this navel ring. She was upset, I was under the gun, but I tried to teach her "I don't give a damn". Like me, she was too dependant on the approval of others.

  Now we are all fading and really don't 'give a damn'. But I admit that is conditional. We all have people in our lives we care about and we do not want to disturb them. For those we love, we give a damn. But all those small minded, self righteous fundamentalists we used to live with can just take a hike.

  i have actually been on this board for a few months and never really posted how i ended up here.

  maybe it would be healthy,,.

  i was raised as a witness, my dad was an elder and my mom vacation pioneered, eventually she was an auxiliary pioneer, so witness activities were always going on.

  I love these stories. Your JW life was so familiar. Glad to here you are happy now. It give hope for the JW lurkers that there is life after leaving "the truth".

  Wish I could tell our story but we haven't been kicked out yet.

  Letting go of JW relatives (Long)

  i've been out of the jws for some time now, seven years.

  like many of you, i left a lot of acquaintances, friends, and family behind.. the acquaintances were fairly easy to let go, the friends very hard, and the family, well, near impossible, at least up until now.

  that she should listen to both sides of the story without fear and make her own decision.

  Typical extreme fundamentalism. It is amazing to me that people like this are competent enough to spell better than me, and put sentences together but they come up with such bizarre notions. Reminds me of the short WT notion that the personality of a person was really in the literal heart and that made heart transplants very dangerous.

  i am new here.

  tho i have lurked, this is my first real post.. i was doing "personal research" for the last 5 years, tho was helped along recently when i was deleted as an elder because i work for a company owned by a disassociated jw.

  there is no real definitive info in print, other than the infamous 9/15/81 wt, but the co held a mini-crusade and got me axed.. nothing personal,.... just business.

  I can relate to the part with the CO:
  

  the CO held a mini-crusade and got me axed.

  My CO tried hard, but the body backed me up. Then he sent in his report so full of BS the body would not sign it and two other elders walked out of the elders meeting because of his attempt to intimidate them.

  The CO attempt failed but his slanderous report went in with the signature of 3 cowards. I was already looking for an excuse to quiet so I resigned in conscientious objection to the corruption in the hierarchy. I stated it that way in my letter of resignation to the society and didn't even get a response from them.

  So its over and I'm free. Hope you soon realize the same.

  something happened at my church today that i wanted to share with you all.

  the church i attend now is quite large.

  1800+ members, as well as hundreds of other regular attenders.

  I agree with Dakota and LB,

  You focused on people and their needs. That will often put you at odds with 'policies and proceedures'. But Jesus was always in trouble for the same thing. You're in good company.
