met them years ago at bethel nyc and thought they were an amazing couple - very hospitable and warm... merton i think is quite senior at headquaters , but seemed more liberal than most .. also anyone know olaf stephenson from watchtower farms, was a really nice fella and often wonder what they are doing with their lives today?????.

There were a few people there I thought were genuine and these two were among those. It is a rather isolated life there at Bethel ( had no tv or radio for almost 5 yrs, my fault though) but how could someone be in the Cambell's position without eventually seeing too much coming in from the outside that would destroy their faith in the institution? I don't know, I just don't judge any more. Those seemed to be a good couple. I have no idea how they are now. Steve

why does daniel specifically use the word 'times' rather than years?

It's good to see so many old JWD posters 'resurrected" by this thread, good of you Amazing. As for Greg, he is not returning to the dog's "vomit", maybe he is just going back to examine it momentarily. Some people get off the toilet and look back at the deposit. It doesn't mean they are sick. Maybe a healthy curiosity. :-( Time will tell if this is a marketing ply or a less noble return to the toilet. these manage to polarise us in informative albeit heated debates.
an argument should have a counter argument so that as much ground is covered as possible on both sides of the debate.
Good point, and we all seem to agree it is too often one sided.
Since we cannot count on the other side to defend their stand I have a suggestion that my make things fresh for all of us, even the lurking JW's.
Lets ask AlanF and BigTex to play devils advocateand present the JW's best arguments for a month or two. Common, you two know the WT better than any JW's anyway and the it might inspire the JW defenders to jump in. It could be a load of fun too. How long has it been since we had some real fun?

during my discussion with death to the pixies i hit on something that he brushed off as irrelevant.
in trying to make it clearer for him why the question mattered to me i stumbled across the best proof for myself that this cannot be god's organization and the bible students/jws have been being lied to from the beginning.. in 1930 over 80,000 professed anointed had no clue that they were god's sole channel of communication to mankind, even though jehovah's witnesses now teach that the anointed have been that sole channel ever since pentecost of 33 c.e.. question #1: how is it possible that god's channel of communication didn't even know they were his channel of communication?.
question #2: if the true anointed brothers of christ have always been god's sole channel of communication to mankind since penetcost 33 c.e., why would jesus need to choose them in 1919; didn't he already know who god's channel was?.

So the WT clearly teaches that the 'anointed' were God's channel of communication since 33 C.E which means God was using them up to the late 1800's when they got confused and started following Russel because they believed he (Russel) had been chosen by God to do the job that they must had forgot they were already doing. Then in 1918, three years after the 'faithful slave' died, God Re-chose them to do the job he had already given them in 33, and they did that job not knowing they were doing it until another man, Rutherford, told them they were doing this job. All this confusion despite their divine wisdom as God's channel of communication?

...or so it begins.. firstly, pre-1991 ex-jws (a term which i find preferable to apostates) felt fairly isolated from one another, had few lifelines to the outside world, and were unlikely to find out much more than whatever they left because of.
hearing experiences of people returning to the borg after a horrible experience on the outside was not uncommon at all.
without a support structure and generally having lost even family support through the disfellowshipping/disassociation policy, returning seemed the only way to establish a modicum of stability.

Sorry I'm just getting to this. You dun good with your summary. When I finally typed "Jehovah's Witnesses" into a search engine, I was to RIGHTEOUS at first to stay with it. I got offended and clicked off (H2O) but couldn't resist coming back. I finally printed a couple hundred pages of great work, one Alan F's critic of the Proclaimer's Book, and went on a long vacation with that note book and a highlighter. I came back from that vacation with a beard and a hell raising attitude, which did not go well with the CO since I was a popular elder at the time. It was over for me thanks to the internet.

Thanks for that artful explanation. Every time this material is laid out it touches someone who is trying to put the pieces of the great historical puzzle together. As more and more get it, the consciousness of society in general is bracketed forward to a new stage of perception. Is it possible that we as a societal group are slowly emerging from our three (or four, or five) thousand year old mythological consciousness into a new sense of spiritual reality? If so, you are playing a part in the process.
