  The Infallable, Inspired Word of God

  i have often wondered, if the bible is the infallable word of god and inspired in the minds of men by the mind of god.

  then why is it you can prove or disprove just about anything with it?.

  these are the sorts of questions that cause problems for organizations that claim to also be god's spokesmen.

  sorta like Firestone Tires reporting on thier own tires as to the wonderful quality and dependabilty they have

  you are correct in that the bible creates all kinds of questions that require the beleiever to come up with all kinds of explanations to make it work--

  one has to wonder for a book to be the only link to god and over 20 billion folks will either have gods favor or not based on if they can figure out the instructions is sad

  one would think that instructions that are that critical to ones life and happiness would not consist of "Riddles" and and "Signs"

  can you imagine being told a riddle and if you could not figure it out in time some guy would shoot your wife and kids-

  but i understand why folks believe in the bible - it feels a need , but i don't have that need so i can't dog them- they are merely feeling a need and of course the kicker is if you don't have that need then thier god will kill you

  you got to love it

  almost every single belief system share that common thread

  we got the inside track to god and if you don't believe as i my god will kill you

  that is the core belief of almost every single belief system on the earth

  Who Were the NWT Translators?

  i just posted this information to a private email list, but i think it will be of interest to people on this board.. the following list of translators of the new world translation is a compilation from a variety of sources:.

  frederick w. franz: main translator.

  took liberal arts sequence at university of cincinnati; 21 semester hours of classical greek, some latin.

  Why do elders come unnanounced.......

  yeah, like these guys never make appointments.

  just stroll up when it suits them and not you.

  is it ignorance or simply a matter of discourtesy?

  Another reason they come announced is that they sometimes just plan these visits "off the cuff" due to a lack of having anything better to do and just need to kill some time

  ###### and i feel this is the number one reason- most elders hate field service so after they get the group rolling instead of doing door to door if they are near bro weak's house they will stop by to KILL TIME i know we used to do it all the time

  in fact one elder in our hall was so bad his bookstudy hated him for leaving them in the territory

  Do Majority of exJWs remain Christians?

  do the majority of exjws retain a christian faith after leaving the borg?

  does the majority of exjws continue studying the bible on their own or join a new christian group that's less rigid than the jws?

  or does the majority say to hell with christianity?.

  welcome to the board and a very good questions

  one of the things that i have seen is that after being not able to question ANYTHING

  one now is free to ask those kinds of questions that your mom told you "Boy Don't Question God"

  after a combined 60+ yrs between my wife and i we have decided to take a break for religion, bible and god

  after yrs of arguing over this Greek word and that greek word we feel we need a break

  notice what this person had to do :

  "i had to find a way to explain this satisfactorily to myself"

  "i used the idea that it may have been a ruse, pure speculation of course",

  "some said that they could finally kind of reconcile this thorny account"

  #######now this is really sad sorta like a kid who is 12 trying to ahng on to there is a real santa at the north pole

  so critical thinking would require a person to ask

  Why in the world would a "Loving God" not provide a clearer understanding of something this serious were according to the story FOLKS ARE GOING TO DIE at the end of the story

  actually more of an observation about how believers are forced to ad-lib because the bible is so unclear- just take a look at the post of
  Ginny-

  she highlites in an excellent way the problem- just looking at the phrase "TO KNOW"

  it takes 1000's of pages just to try and explain what is meant by one little word.

  one thing i have found so amazing is how a book that is suppose to be from god and inspired requires 100,000 of thousands of other UN-INSPIRED books to explain it.

  when you have to have a Manual to explain another manual that explains another manual ....... you got a real problem

  and that is the way it is with the bible

  i recall a few years back being at Catholic U. on biz and i walked thru their library and it was so sad to look at the 10s of thousands of volume all lined up --just to try and explain the bible

  i work in networking and i have read MSCE books that are easier to understand and ones life is not hanging in the balance because he didnt' understand it.

  why would you write a letter to your kid with instructions that if gotten wrong will require him to die if he couldn't figure it out and thruout history we can see that man still has not figured the bible out

  that is the reason we have different religions they all think they got the inside track to god-

  do you know one of the reasons the internet works- it's due to a little thing know as an IP Address - every internet server uses one and it makes it possible for you and i to reach each other

  KISS keep it simple stupid is what we say all the time

  when you consider the number of god's kids who have killed each other over what they THOUGHT DADDY MEANT is truly sad, but what is worse is to think that "HE" watched his kids kill each other over what they thought he meant
  now that is sad

  So if one wants to believe every single story in the bible -Cool

  that is up to the person, but you can't deny that as a result of so little details being given in the bible it forces religions to fill in the blank and make it up as they go along

  why should the "Culture" of the day influence the bible- did not god have the foreknowledge to know that one day folks would not have any idea of what the culture was like and therefore made sure that what was written would be clear and understandable thruout time-

  so while believers argue over what it means "To Know"

  hi.. i've been a jw for 15 years, have pioneered, been where the need is great, etc.

  up until a couple of years ago, i was considered strong in the truth.

  but then i had my first and only episode of major depression.

  . I'm starting to see some things that I know aren't right in the organization. I'm trying not to see it. My life has been disrupted enough lately, and I don't know if I could take much more disruption.

  What scares me the most is this: what if I find out that the Truth, this foundation I've built my last 15 years on, isn't what I thought it was? My whole life would be uprooted. I don't know if I could handle that, or where would I go from there.

  you have stated your feelings well and that is how almost everyone of us felt to some degree SCARED TO DAMN DEATH --that our entire world would come crashing down

  we understand how you feel- but your world will not come crashing down

  infact this is a thread you may want to read

  coming to learn things about what we have believed so long is very hard

  but you can do it and survive and thrive as well

  but you need to know how to do it and asking for advice is the key

  make sure that what you are told can be backed up and never let anyone tell you that your faith is weak or you are a bad person just becasue you ask them a question they don;t like

  you will be just fine- already you have taken a very Powerful step just by being here

  i recall the first time i went to an "APOSTATe" siste

  i thought demons would come out of my monitor and all i saw were folks who shared many of the same concerns that i did but like me were FORCED to never mention it due to being label a HATER OF GOD HIMSELF

  well as you have seen no demons are coming out of your monitor and we are jusr regualar old folks looking for some answers without being beaten for asking questions

  always remember this:

  I PERFER TO HAVE QUESTIONS I CAN'T ANSWER THAN QUESTIONS I CAN'T ASK

  COME ON NIC:

  The Bible also does not record any conversation that may have been taking place inside the house as Lot was taking his stand outside. We don't know what reassurances the angels may have given Lot's family, specifically his daughters.

  ####THIS is where every bible beleiver starts getting into trouble;
  and this is what has gotten wt into so much trouble-

  to try and make the story fit One has to add lib which is sad

  if the bible doesn't say so and so - then one must leave it at that

  of course that will often lead to questions that a believer can't address.

  even when i was in wt as an elder i always thought this was a little cold bloodied to offer up your girls for some guys you don't know

  let's take it from a woman point of view as one former female jw asked me

  if the angels had been women - would he still have given up his girls

  of course we don't know - it is as if the bible leaves out so much stuff that one is only left with trying to fill in the gaps
