They gotta be kidding!
by Bella15 inokay... soooooooooo... after 23 years my hardcore jw sister admits her 23 years old daughter may be the product of an adulterous relationship with another jw brother and is doing dna testing ... when this issue came up 23 years ago, she dismissed it as a rumor/gossip from her non-jw husband's family which happened to be source that told my brother in law about my sister's infidelity ... the reputation of this poor non-jws was just blasted to the floor as just another sign of how wicked wordly people are .... this happened in another country, so now she told the elders in her congo here in usa about this so now the only "privilege" she will have is to go door to door preaching ... i was like what ... this hypocrite has been going door to door all of this time pretending she is better than billions of human beings all the while knowing what she has done in the past ... she has played the martyr for sooooo long and she is allow to continue "going door to door" ... for me it is like they only care about bringing money/donations ... for me she should be allow to participate in the meetings and do whatever inside their kh and cult but avoid going to the public pretending she is better than the rest of human kind that will be destroyed in armageddon ... wow!.
i am sure she is not repentant, she is either going after some money - really - or now that she is divorced is trying to connect with this man again somehow ... i already made bets with my other non-jw sister ... lol ... we think she is going for both ... lol.

JeffT - if she and her dad love each other, and he raised her, and she sees him as her dad, then he is her dad. DNA doesn't make a dad. It would certainly be a shock to be told this information. It may be a rough time for a while. But it doesn't have to change her relationship with her dad.

My latest university experience...
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthis isn't a jw experience, but for those of you that have been following my life, i thought i'd have a drink and share this strange event in my post-jw life.. for you wonderful newbies, you can catch up on highlights of my story in the few threads i've started here.
i'm finishing the junior year of my engineering degree and the classes are hard as hell.
i used to be among the smartest students in the room until i hit the 300 level university courses.

This is wonderful, Billy. Be careful that the hours you put in as a research assistant do not derail your studying. If you can become even more effective in managing your time (you now have more to fit in to the same number of hours each day/week), this could be a huge break for you. In any case, congratulations on your amazing hard work and all the things you have managed to do despite the Watchtower disadvantage. You deserve each and every one of your successes!!!

There was a knock at the door....
by exwhyzee inor more like a thunking sound really, which set our little dog into a fit of barking.
i crawled out from behind the fridge where i was doing a repair on the waterline for the icemaker, so i could go see what all the commotion was about.
i fugured it was going to be my neighbor returning my ladder but instead it was jw's handing out memorial invites.. the woman and the young man (her 20 something son) were people i had known but hadn't seen since we faded 4+ years ago.

Honestly, the idiocy is really shocking. I know you said she's a sweet lady but...Come on. I think she deserved to have a bit of a wake up call.

My husband MISSED the meeting today! AGAIN!!!
by Julia Orwell inyep, i was comparing the nwt with the greek, which, incidentally uses words like 'grace' and 'spirit' instead of 'undeserved kindness' and 'gifts of the spirit'.
i pointed out these mistranslations to my dear husband.. then i showed him 2 tim 2:5-6 in the nwt and the original greek (strong's, westcott and hort) as well, where it says jesus became mediator for all and showed him in the wt where it says jesus is only mediator for 144 000. i also showed him an instance in the wt where it raves on about hating 'apostates' and others, then showed him matthew 5:44 "however i say to you: continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you.".
i didn't have to say anything 'apostate'; just show him the contrasting texts.. then i showed him the "shepherd" book where it says one can get dfd for "deliberately spreading teachings contraryto bible truth as taught by jebovah's witnesses" (ibid, pg 65) and told him that i've deliberately told him something different to the wt teaching therefore in the elders' eyes, i can be dfd.

Well played. Congratulations on this. Seems quite significant. If only more would wake up to the lies of the WT.

I am miserable...am I crazy?
by Cagefighter inas a born in jw my outlet was always music.
my parents let me do piano lessons (from another sister) and when i was 14 i lobbied hard enough for a guitar.
i formed a decent punk/emo type in high school behind my parents back.

I like what Billy said. Don't beat yourself up, Cagefighter. Do find a way to pursue your dreams/music somehow. Find a realistic pathway to do that. Be happy! Where there's a will...

How do I as a future "Therapist" help ex-jws that won't move on from the WT?
by booker-t ini am halfway through my master's program in psychology/sociology and plan on being a therapist/sounselor.
i left jw's in 1988 and i have never looked back.
i enjoy my life so much after getting my aa degree, then my ba degree, and now i will soon get my ma degree.

Booker - I am a psychology professor, and I have degrees in both psychology and sociology. I am unaware of any combined MA in psychology/sociology that is a program in counseling that leads to fulfilling the educational requirements for licensure as a therapist or counselor in any state. Are you in a sociology MA program studying sociological social psychology (which is not a therapy/counseling program)?
