Using the "C-Word" With My Wife
by breakfast of champions inmonths ago, i commented on another thread about a strategy i was using to introduce my wife to the way cults work--without using the word "cult" and scaring her away.
here's my first comment on that thread:.
i pulled hassan's bite model off the internet and imported it into my word processor.

Every time I think about what Billy has accomplished, it just warms my heart so much. And to take on an engineering degree at an excellent, large public university...What an accomplishment. I LOVE when former JWs earn degrees in challenging fields from top universities! If there are any JWs lurking on this board, please read through Billy's experiences. If this is your dream, do it!

Billy - I am so thrilled for you. The degree. The job. The hickeys right before graduation. (BTW, did the concealer work? Tell us the story!)
Anyway...You did it. I can't believe how time flies. Another reason why anyone who thinks they might want to pursue their education should explore that possibility very, very seriously.
However old you are, you could wind up four years older with or without that degree you have always wanted. Its never too late. There's no such thing as too old.
The only other thing I would suggest to whomever is thinking about further or higher education is this: Go to the very best college/university you possibly can given your own personal situation. Stay away from for-profit institutions. Go for the real deal.
And as for you, Billy -- I know you went to a great school. Well done, you!!!!

Well my JW elder dad has lost his job...
by BU2B inas a little background, my dad became a jw in 1980 i think, went to bethel, married my mom in 86' went back for another year and then i came along... he worked in the auto repair shop at bethel while he was there, and upon leaving, continued working in this field.
my whole life they have been the type of jw parents that tell you how you will never get to high school, never graduate it, never get married in this system, never have children in this system etc.. i say this to illustrate the end is just around the corner attitude they have always had, probably because they fully bought/buy into the hype at the conventions/wt articles.
my father has no plan in place for retirement, and he is physically slowing down doing such hard laborious work.

Put up a Christmas tree in every room of the house. Never mind that Christmas was only about 3 weeks ago. Just say you are getting a jump start on next Christmas. That might scare them off.
This whole Wait on Jehovah and Jehovah will Provide thing is just courting trouble. As a little old lady I used to know liked to say: "Wish in one hand and shit in the other. See which gets filled first."

Pat Robertson argues against shunning
by laverite init is so sad that the jws continue to shun.
i just don't see that ever changing, it's so heavily entrenched in the organization.
even if the org were to lighten up, so many hardliners would continue hard core shunning.. pat robertson isn't known for being the most liberal christian in the media, but in this video he argues that there's nothing to gain from shunning.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py7_qjmm4r8.

Ever consider joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
by rawe inhas anyone here left jehovah's witnesses to join the churuch of jesus christ of latter-day saints?
what was your motivation for doing so and how has it worked out?.

I would deflect and say something like 'Oh it was so nice to have a couple of days off to relax a bit!'
