I loved this portion of AIW's initial post:

does anyone else have the same problem.
when i'm alone, i am constantly thinking about all the clever things i'm going to say if visited by the elders, but when i actually get confronted, these things never come to mind, and i keep spitting out drivel like some dumb idiot.
after they leave, i rethink the conversation, and i'm furious over all the oppotunities i've missed to put them in their place.......damn it!!!!!
I feel for you, JWIP. These JW Jihadists really put a lot of effort into "appearing" intimidating. But there is an easy way to fire back.
In my case, in speaking with several elders (some of which were COs and anointed) over my issues with the Society, a couple of well-placed questions absolutely baffled them. They stammer as if you had just whacked them in the face, then in the middle of this befuddlement they become embarrassed. This in turn quickly evolves into humiliation and then anger and hostility towards you, the one who just destroyed their schoolyard logic with a simple question. All of this happens within a few minutes.
A key is to never lose your cool. Remain collected and level while they wallow in their defeat.
Trust me. They will leave you alone, but only while they are plotting your demise and slandering your name to every JW they meet.
Still, the tactic has never failed. It works every time. You will never feel "stupid" again.

Since leaving the WT, I've come to understand a different Jesus than was taught me for three decades. And as you say, a much more generous and lenient Jesus as well.

Also, when Jesus was hanging with his 12, they saw a man performing miracles. His followers wanted Jesus to stop the man, since he wasn't in their group. Jesus laid down his idea of a true follower, "Anyone who is not against you is for you." (Luke 9:50)
If it was so important to be inside the selected group, why did Jesus react as he did? If Jesus and Paul acted as the model for Christians, and both went their own way even when the "leadership" went another, what does that tell us about the place of organized religion and unquestioned authority structure?
