... will they destroy all great pieces of religious art?.
just finished watching monuments men.
great movie!
I always knew there wouldn't be anymore cryin' in yer beer, country songs in the Nu System since everyone would be so happy but I never thought of them actually having to destroy all the amazing and beautiful works of art in the world due to their "pagan" origin or having been commissioned by the worlds religious organizations. (sigh)...yet another occasion where I didn't think things through because I was born into the cult.

a father's day commercial for bass pro came on and it got me thinking.
it said, "remember when your dad took you camping and taught you how to fish?".
so i started thinking about my childhood and what the commercial would be like for people like myself.. it would go something like this:.
Remember all those years of evenings and weekends back in the 1975 days when your super kind Dad sat home alone while you and the rest of the family went to hear scary talks about how he and billions others like him would be destroyed any day now when armageddon struck.
Remember how it was growing up being pitied as the "Fatherless boy" of the congregation when acutally you had a perfectly good and decent Father who was an all around better person than many of those "saved" ones at the Kingdom Hall, but you hardly knew him as he was always at work or you were in school,at a meeting, in service or at an assembly, studying your watchtower, studying for the bookstudy, prepering for service etc etc,
Remember how Dad used to console and confort your little sisters who bawled all the way home from meeting and rushed into the house begging him to become a Witness so he wouldn't die at Armegeddon.
Remember how he'd calm you down by telling you "not to take it all so seriously" when you woke up terrified from a "Armageddon/Tribulation" nightmare.
Remember how Dad got a second job just so Mom could stay home and be and Auxiliary Pioneer.
Remember how Dad would come in from the other room and try to convince Mom not to delve into the details so much when the topic of the "Trubulation" would come up during the family Bible study.
Remember how Dad let the Witnesses convince him to sign the "No Blood" medical directive before having a heart surgery and died a horrible death from lack of blood, right in front of his family.
ot law required jews to take the lead in stoning a family member who became apostate.. the watchtower has lamented the fact that the law of the land now forbids them from doing so.. if the law permitted it, as it does in some musim countries, and if the watchtower required it, would your family obey?.
my parents are good people and i believe their love for me is genuine, but i think they would follow orders.. what about yours?.
I'd have to say no, when it comes to the question of whether or not my family would stone me to death. But the question did make me think about the "Societies" track record for making directives and then changing them years later and how that pattern would play out with a directive regarding the "stoning" of disobedient ones.
Back in the day when the old diehards were making up the doctrine, they'd probably have a convoluded explaination of what was and wasn't a stoning offense and who would be in charge of said stones. They'd research the stones of the bible lands and determine what they were made up of and what their typical size and weight would be. As a shrewd investment, they'd immediately locate and purchase a failing rock quarry in upstate New York ($$$). There would be an increase in gorey stoning illustrations in the literature and of experiences given on the assemby programs outling heartwarming stoning experiences.
Decades later when their quarry was almost mined out, they'd decide that that stoning was a conscience matter and that stone fragments (also called gravel) could be substituted for real stones.
interview with joel the unwitness:.
http://youtu.be/bpwylueul44.
an outstanding experience of unwitnessing occurs when a former jw happens to find himself at a mcdonalds around 11am on a saturday.... does pandemonium ensue?
Another interesting video... thanks for taking the time to make and post it. He took the same approach I always use when talking to JW's. They scare easily so you have to let them know that you are on their side...right up front. By that I mean, you have to let them know you "get" what they are doing and why but have found out some troubling information that you should have known long before building your life around the organization.
I couldn't find the Unwitness youtube account anywhere so that I could see his "memorial" video. Is his youtube site still active?
I'd say the 2 taller adies in the very back who are wearing black dress clothes/coats are probably from a local Washington D.C. Hall and the other ladies are probably JW tourists getting their photo taken in front of the literature cart to show the folks back home.
well, it has come to another fork in the road.
i have been going to other meetings and skipping more.
car groups and two bros tried stopping by my house recently but i was not home or gates were locked.
Draw no lines in the sand....keep it vague. Doing so will give your JW friends and family some "wiggle room" in terms of how they treat you from now on and will give you some options in the future, should you need them.
the feeling that you're never good enough.
the feeling that you're wicked and evil.. .
because i'd give anything not to feel this way.
Feelings are caused by thoughts. Negative thoughts produce negative feelings which in turn produce more negative thoughts and feelings. It's a downward spiral that must be stopped in it's tracks.
If because of your JW training you were convinced that only those who are heavily involved in promoting their beliefs, are worthy of God's love, it only makes sense that after you leave, you would possibly feel worse for a time. If you still have lingering beleifs, you'll have to identify them and delve into why that is so. When you are feeling particularly worthless, you'll have to identify and investigate the source of the specific thoughts you were having when the feelings came over you.
Part of the therapy of this forum comes from looking at our former beliefs from a diffrent perspective so that we can decide what it is we truly think, beleive and feel.
i thought this was kinda' funny...a friend of ours just posted a instagram photo of the guy who played the prodigal son (josh orton) in the jw video, giving the sunday talk this morning at the hall he is attending.. there are a lot of ooooh and aaaaah comments about this guys celebrity status and people claiming to have known him or been in the same congregation as he was.. one of the people who commented on the photo is the on again off again sarcastic jw brother-in-law of our friend.. he said " nice to see that the prodigal son is doing so much better now".
A photo was taken of a young guy giving a talk today at the Hall.
Someone we know who was attending that Hall posted it on Instagram
The comments that followed indicated that he was Josh Orton who starred in the Prodigal Son video.
That all I got...
