At the beginning of the video, the guy talking was saying something about being able to sign up for Detroit style classes from coast to coast. I got the idea he may be selling some kind of dance lessons. If so, this whole dancing at the Hall business seems even more of a departure from the days when the Kingdom Hall was used strictly for worship purposes. We weren't supposed to even like popular music or it's performers in our private lives, but it seems that with the passage of time, they have been forgiven for their supposed immoral lifestyles and suggestive lyricls to the point that Mowtown music is being played inside the walls of "Jehovah's house". Of course Detroit is "Motown" but still, JW's are supposed to be no part of the world around them.
Having said that, I'm glad that they are loosening up a bit, if that's what's happening but for anyone who grew up in the restricted and regulated JW lifestyle, it makes the loss of ones youth that much harder to take. To a small degree it would be like not going to College when you were young, then years later finding out the Society had begun setting up scholarships or grants for deserving JW kids who wanted to go on to higher education. It would make a joke of your sacrafice.

Implications of the 80 year age limit for the COBE...
by james_woods inaside from the obvious age discrimination and disrespect, what are other implications of this new rule?.
(persons over 80 years of age cannot serve as a chairman of the body of elders any longer by watchtower fiat).
1) - this means that no one can be a cobe if he was born before 1934. so much for persons alive and in adult understanding of the circumstances in 1914 surviving to the end.

JW refuses to provide wedding stationery to Gay couple
by KateWild ini was outraged at this and had to post it.. http://jehovahswitnessreport.com/blog/jw-refuses-to-provide-wedding-stationery-to-gay-couple.
i think she is a hypocrite and i bet she sells her invites to fornicators, or does she ask them if they are having sex before marrige, before she takes their money?.
i was never like this when i was a jw, it's even more disturbing that she is going to ask her elders what to do.

The thing with neo-nazis and KKK members is that they *do* discriminate and their events promote racial segregation, hate speech, etc.
I understand what you're saying but you have to remember, just because you may happen to disagree with the KKK or Neo-Nazis....I'm sure there are many others (not me) who agree with them wholeheartedly. They (not me) might think those groups are the only way straighten out our society. In a democracy, for better or worse, they have the freedom to believe such.
If people are concerned about discrimination, comapratively speaking, this JW womans refusal to do this print job is a minor offence compared to the rest of the beleifs she and her religion preach from door to door everyday. When you think about it, Jehovahs Witnesses in their own way discriminate, shun and say bad things about anyone who doesn't share thier beliefs all the time and they even spread literature around the world that claims God is going to basically kill everyone but them. . If they eliminated this womans right to refuse an objectionable print job, in her own business, because of her religious convictions...how long would it be before they forced her to stop going from door to door preaching those same beliefs?
The thing with neo-nazis and KKK members is that they *do* discriminate and their events promote racial segregation, hate speech, etc.Refusing to serve them, when their viewpoints are in opposition to the civil liberties of the general public, would probably be legally permissible.
Probably not, especially if they all the were going to do was have a peacefull rally.
But apparently a business owner can't descriminate against anyone who doesn't share their viewpoint on things.
If a group wants to promote their hatred, they can find someone who shares that viewpoint to do the stationery, catering, etc. I don't see a gay couple who want to spend the rest of their lives together in a committed relationship as a violation of anyone else's civil liberties.
Many (not me) would ask, why doesn't the Gay couple just go to a bakery or print shop that is willing to cater to them. Why infringe on someone's religious beleifs and force them to do something they don't beleive in? By forcing the issue, aren't the Gay couple being intolerant of the Baker or Printers rights? Wouldn't eventually all the intolerant bakeries and print shops go out of business if all those who disagreed with their unfair practices stopped patronizing them ? Besides, who would want to eat a cake or give their money to a business owned by someone like that anyway?
They aren't telling the JW stationery lady that she can't go Door-to-Door™ or attend Meetings™ at the Kingdom Hall™ or gather with other JWs at a Circuit Assembly™ or District Convention™. They just want to have a celebration of their relationship with their friends and loved ones - it is none of this JW lady's business to interfere with that.
She is not demanding that they stop being Gay, she is simply refusing to be a part of something she doesn't believe in.
They just want to have a celebration of their relationship with their friends and loved ones - it is none of this JW lady's business to interfere with that.
I agree, but some would say that as the owner of the print shop, it literally is her "Business". If she was just an employee of the shop it might be a different situation, but as the business owner, shouldn't she have the choice of what kind of materials she wants to print, no matter what her reason is? What if someone asked her to print up a bunch of pornographic photos, shouldn't she be able to refuse, or would that be discriminating against people everywhere who happen to love porn?

As STILLIN mentioned, the topic of this post reminds me of this story. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/06/03/baker-forced-to-make-gay-wedding-cakes-undergo-sensitivity-training-after/
I don’t think anyone should be discriminated against but I also think a business owner should have rights that protect his or her personal beliefs as well. I can't help but wonder if a printer refused to print invitations for a Nazi rally or White Supremacist event, if anyone would object. Dont' Neo Nazi's and Members of the KKK have rights too? It seems like when it comes to the topic of Gay rights, people aren’t allowed any options when it comes to their own sensibilities on the subject. I'm not by any means comparing Gay people to Nazi's or the KKK, rather I'm wondering where do you draw the line when it comes to the right of a business owner to refuse or accept a customer's request. How do you make that distinction?
Sometimes businesses even have a statement posted in their premisis stating "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" but maybe I'm not comparing apples to apples here.

I always knew there wouldn't be anymore cryin' in yer beer, country songs in the Nu System since everyone would be so happy but I never thought of them actually having to destroy all the amazing and beautiful works of art in the world due to their "pagan" origin or having been commissioned by the worlds religious organizations. (sigh)...yet another occasion where I didn't think things through because I was born into the cult.

What would a Father's Day commercial look like if it was made by JW's?
by JimmyPage ina father's day commercial for bass pro came on and it got me thinking.
it said, "remember when your dad took you camping and taught you how to fish?".
so i started thinking about my childhood and what the commercial would be like for people like myself.. it would go something like this:.

Remember all those years of evenings and weekends back in the 1975 days when your super kind Dad sat home alone while you and the rest of the family went to hear scary talks about how he and billions others like him would be destroyed any day now when armageddon struck.
Remember how it was growing up being pitied as the "Fatherless boy" of the congregation when acutally you had a perfectly good and decent Father who was an all around better person than many of those "saved" ones at the Kingdom Hall, but you hardly knew him as he was always at work or you were in school,at a meeting, in service or at an assembly, studying your watchtower, studying for the bookstudy, prepering for service etc etc,
Remember how Dad used to console and confort your little sisters who bawled all the way home from meeting and rushed into the house begging him to become a Witness so he wouldn't die at Armegeddon.
Remember how he'd calm you down by telling you "not to take it all so seriously" when you woke up terrified from a "Armageddon/Tribulation" nightmare.
Remember how Dad got a second job just so Mom could stay home and be and Auxiliary Pioneer.
Remember how Dad would come in from the other room and try to convince Mom not to delve into the details so much when the topic of the "Trubulation" would come up during the family Bible study.
Remember how Dad let the Witnesses convince him to sign the "No Blood" medical directive before having a heart surgery and died a horrible death from lack of blood, right in front of his family.
