a man i met at work (customer) gave me his e-mail address, so i contacted him.. we've been e-mailing for a few days now, and it's time for a first date.. i suggest starbucks.. he insists on the park.. it's 106 degrees!
i suggest starbucks, again because it's too hot to walk in the park.. he says that maybe we should cancel because the heat doesn't bother him.. he said, "i'm a very practical man...maybe you can't handle the heat.".

Sorry, the first thing that came to mind is maybe he wants to get you alone in the park.... too many people at Starbucks. How well do you know this guy?
People who were brought up to be overly polite sometimes second guess the little voice that is telling them to run. (Just a thought)

You'd think a person who went to Bethel and who was raised in the "Truth" would know more about the organization he was ready to die for....but I don't !
How scarey is that ?
since i've been re-reading crisis of conscience, i've come to appreciate that many good people have been "shafted" by those in the "truth".

No one was ridiculing the Miners or their plight. Just a little silly venting of frustration toward a faceless organization that on occasion spins senarios like this into something that puts them in the favorable spotlight. Geeez !

well i thought there was one thing i could count on with my ex jw wife and that was she would not go back on her word.
to make a long story short, after we were separated and i signed off on the marriage, my ex gave me her word that she would not go after my pension.
well a few years later guess what?
Sorry to hear about your pension W.P. That's gotta hurt ! Isn't there a way to prove she made that verbal agreement? Especially since she is going after our pension a few years after the fact. Wouldn't she have done that in the beginning unless some other agreement, verbal or otherwise, had been made such as the one you described ? It seems like an Attorney might be able to prove this in court somehow.
Speaking of money.. I imagine the WT lost money in the stock market like everyone else did. I wonder if there is a report somewhere that lays this out in black and white so JW's can see what is happening with their donations ?

i grew up with certain voices (not faces) that were almost like celebrities to me.
maybe this is only a "born-in" thing.
but there are a lot of them that will forever be stuck in my head.
When I was a Bethelite, I was assigned to eat at the table where the Governing Body members conducted the morning worship just before breakfast. My first morning at Bethel, I sat at my assigned seat not knowing just where I was sitting and just who the people around me were. Suddenly the guy at the end of the table set a microphone in front of himself and a video camera and lights were swung around to face him. With a distinctive booming voice he said "Good "Morning everyone". It was the voice of Jehovah that I had heard all my life in the dramas... AKA Daniel Sydlik. I couldn't believe it !
Later that same day as new Bethelites are required to do for the first week, I was helping a sister clean rooms and I was really hustling trying to be a good worker. Finally she told me to take a break. I was sitting at the end of a bed in someoes room with the door wide open. Out in the hallway an elderly man walked by and stopped in the doorway and looked dissaprovingly at me just sitting there. He said in his heavily accented stern old man voice "Rest is for the unrighteous...therefore I have no time for it" an then he just walked away. It was the voice of Moses...AKA brother Friend. I thought 'Oh Crap" I got caught by Moses, sitting around on my first day at Bethel. I wanted to run out in the hall and explain that I was told to take a break. Before I could do that, he poked his head back into the room and smiled at me and winked. I was pretty relieved to know he wasn't serious.
Many of the GB seemed very kindly but others seemed to me, an innocent 18 year old Witness, to be on another plane, which gave them an added bit of mystery and credibility.
