I'm not a drinker at all but toward the last months of my Career as a JW, I'd have to hide a container of Beer in the car due to the panic and anxiety I'd started suffering toward the last. I'd gotten to the point of only being able to attend Sunday meetings, it was too much to attend the evening meetings after work. I didn't have the juice to endure the anxiety that meetings invoked. On Sundays I'd go out to the car during the break between the talk and the WT study and have a couple of mouthfuls just to calm the flip flops in my stomach. It really helped. I almost came to think of it as "merciful liquid from Jehovah" It's so pathetic to look back now and think that that's what it took for me to be able to get through a meeting. As soon as I made my mind up never to attend another meeting the panic and anxiety instantly went away and hasn't returned. I can easily see how someone could become dependant on alcohol if they kept that kind of behaviour up for any length of time.

Anyone been to a meeting after a drink...or three?
by MMXIV ini recall going to the second half of a thursday night meeting after what was meant to be a cheeky after work beer (three strong beers downed quickly on an empty stomach).
i would have been ok had a caring elder not decided to grab me for some encouragement afterwards.. i hoped the faint odor of smoke on my clothes (smoking in pubs was still the done thing in those days) wouldn't be noticed but hard to hide alcohol on the breath.
i tried to say very little and talk in a way that avoided me beathing over him.

Fun with the July 15th WT illustration
by undercover inyes, friends, it's that time once more... when we clip some wt art to a post and try to find all the subliminal wt propaganda messages hidden in the illustration.
(kinda like, "can you find the differences between these two drawings" for kids in the sunday comics).
here's the illustration:.

What's the chubby dude carrying in the background? A skateboard??
That's Chris Farley trying to lure the JW kid into gluttony.

They must not realize how off putting these eye rolling illustrations are to JW kids. I remember these tactics back in the 70's. The JW's were always wearing some out of date cloths and sitting at a desk or at a meeting with a suit on while everyone else was outside having fun or in comfortable cloths and just enjoying themselves. They are so institutionalized that they've lost touch with normal day to day life.
Jenga is now an approved parlar game for Christians of all ages and levels of complete boredom.
Jenga has recently been eliminated as an approved game for Christians. It is believed to have originated as a childs game that became popular during the construction of the Tower of Babel, intended to prepare Pagan children for future attempts to reach the heavens.

A Brother in my former Congregation had a naked lady tattoo'd on his arm. When he became a JW he had a Bikini tattoo'd on her.
Also, I accidently treked onto a nude beach once. The one thing I remember is that there were a lot of old hippie types lying about.
One Older Woman had a tattoo on her backside which at one time was probably a butterfly but now it was the size of a Codor.

Laying on their side for 3 days
by exwhyzee init's been so long since i was at a meeting that i'm beginning to forget a lot of the nonsense i used to know, but does anyone remember how the society used to say that when the gb members were imprisioned around 1919 it fullfilled the prophesy about the prophet laying on his side for 3 days in the roadway ?.
what was that all about and how does their belief regarding their role in fulfilling this prophesy effect the new thinking on the definition of "generation" ?
it seems like they just had to amend the term "generation" in order to keep the year 1914 relevant as well as all the other supposed fullfilments of prophesy they thought they were part of.

Your story about being late because of your wife's hair/mirror time. I forgot about always being at least 5 minutes late because of this. While growing up it was because of my Mom and Sisters and then later it was my Wife. She always turned up looking like she just stepped off a magazie cover (Awake!) but I hated walking in late during the song. Finally towards the end of my JW career, I started refusing to go if we weren't going to be there on time. Many's the time I was all ready to go and just took my suit off and enjoyed my evening at home instead.

Yeah...that's it. They said that their being imprisioned fullfilled that prophecy and this was somehow linked to Satan's ousting from heaven in 1914 I think. Does anyone remember what proof they gave that this was so?
If they ever do drop the 1914 date they will have to drop a few other teachings that are linked to that date as well.
Funny how the truth is so difficult to remember.
